We're already on the last day of January! Here's a little overview of how this month has gone for me:

SETTING NEW GOALS

It’s the start of a new year! In 2021, I finished off a lot of paintings that I had lying around for a while, and am starting this year with a clean slate. It is kind of daunting to start with nothing, and so I’ve been spending some time setting some goals for the kind of paintings I want to make. In 2021, I mostly took on new challenges by tackling them in my sketches and studies. This year I want to do more challenging paintings as well, featuring things like interiors, animals, visual effects like smoke and fire, and more lush and detailed settings. I already started on a few of these paintings and I’m excited to get to work on them in the coming months!

WORKING ON THE HOUSE

This month, I scaled down the amount of client work and other side projects I was doing, simply because the last few months were ridiculously busy and I needed a break. I’ve been giving myself more time to focus on other stuff. I’ve been living in my current home for almost 3 years now, but there were tons of things that still needed to happen that had been on the backburner since we moved here. So this month I’ve not only been creating art, but also working on finishing up my home! We’ve been painting walls, hanging up shelves and paintings, and generally picking up where we left off a while ago. It feels good to finally get started on these things again!

Here are some pictures of some things we did! Left is the dark blue wall color I added to my home office (still need to put the frames up), and right is the shelving system we had lying on the ground for literally over a year that is now on the wall where it should be:

We also finally put some lovely art by our friend Menah on the walls:

And we painted the downstairs bathroom wall dark green and put up a new mirror! Next step is adding some frames:

So far, 2022 has been a lot about getting momentum going! How has the year been for you so far?

As always, thanks so much for your support! I'll be sending out links to this month's google drive folder today. If you have any feedback or questions, please feel free to share them with me through a direct message or e-mail to loishh@gmail.com. Any and all feedback is welcome! I hope you’ll continue to be my patron and enjoy the content coming up next month! ❤

Thanks for sharing! Setting new goals seems like a good idea, and I could be inspired to do that too. I realized lately that I love nature and animals but always left it aside because I felt I needed to learn what other artists do... I think this year the resolution is more to focus on these things that I like and improve my rendering skills - I feel comfortable in sketching but I struggle always taking the next steps and make sketches into something more finished or painterly. The colours in the home office and bathroom are beautiful!

It has been a slow start, I was quite tired for a while but getting better now. I want to finally finish a painting I am working on for years, then get more into concept arty stuff and continue to write my dnd sourcebook and make it ready enough to start a campaign with it.

Every time i see a photo of your house it inspires me to be better just as much as seeing your art does XD especially since I've been getting hugely into boho lately and it seems like you take some inspo there... but congrats on getting the non-art stuff done, it can be hard to find time! It's a bit of a relief to me, sitting 6 months from a major move and not entirely unpacked, that someone I look up to in terms of productivity is only painting walls and putting up shelves 3 years after moving. This is why it's good to see your faves are human too XD inspiring! Also that bathroom is adorable??? Is it weird that I want a full house tour? Not to be like, creepy because OMG LOISH HOUSE *fans self* but just because I really like your sense of design (makes sense considering I like your creativity elsewhere too, obviously) and I'm a sucker for interior decor photos.

The pictures of your home are really inspiring! Our house will be finished at the end of this year. Now we're planning the interior equipment and every inspiration is so welcome! Also I'm looking for your new art this year, I'm really curious about it!

My year started off with me being sick and then developing long covid. To be honest, it's been a blessing in disguise. I have had to slow down and pace myself. It is kind of nice to reward yourself for just being able to do small things like washing the dishes. I have only recently joined your patreon, and it has been so worth it. Seeing your art and your posts, reminds me to keep going and keep motivated. I purchased a paint-by-numbers to get the feeling of painting, and for days where body is less willing and I have little work to do. It also nice to see the progress being made. I am not very good to keeping with goals. Kind of go with the flow kind of gal. But something I think is worth saying again, is don't forget to reward yourself for the small things. The little things help make the big things possible.

Yay for interior time! I wish you a lot of joy with decorating the house. And also joy with the new goals and challenges for 2022.

Beautiful and so tasteful! I'm inspired to paint my home office now!

Leslie

congratulations on making headway on so many WIPS, both with regards to your art and your house!!

I love the changes you've done on your house. This year I am hoping to finish school (I started school again 20 years after I started my Master's degree the first time). My schooling isn't in Art, I don't know if I ultimately want to try to make any money with art, but I love to learn. I feel I am pretty good at making realistic art, but I want to learn to draw people and make more semi-realistic art this year. I have loved your tutorials so far, so I have bought a year of your patreon so I can continue to learn, in my free time after full time work, school, and taking care of my family. Art is what I do to decompress from all the other stuff I do with my life.

Hi Lois, Love the dark blue and green accents on the walls! They add so much character to the room. It's great to see you taking time for yourself to make your space the way you want to! Would love to hear more about how it's going.. :) We are all here, as always! Take as much time as you need! Much Love, Lesha.

Loish

that's a great goal to set! i think art really thrives when you're drawing what you love or are genuinely interested in. i heard great things about schoolism also!

Loish

that's great! learning is something so motivating and refreshing, it's never too late to become a student again. Thanks so much for the support here on patreon!!

2026-09-13 21:00 These blue and green for walls are just gorgeous. And I can totally relate with moving in some time ago and having a lot to finish. We moved into our new renovated apartment last November, and guess what - no frames were put up on the walls. Haha. I had all the walls painted white so I can do some of them in color. But I still didn't. I guess, I am stuck with color choices. Too many beautiful colors:D

haha i totally get that feeling! we loved our new, clean white walls and didn't want to tarnish them. i guess that's why it took us 2.5 years to finally put some stuff up!

Ok, but we're renovating later this year, and I **NEED** to know what those colours are. They are beautiful!

Loish

the green one has the color code 'PPG1144 7' and the blue one in my office has the color code 'S 7020 B30G'!

Charlie

Thank you. Tucking those away for checking out when paint time comes!

Loish

np! what i found helpful was buying testers. some brands have little testers you can buy and for other brands you can just get a small pot of paint. being able to paint a small square on the wall and see for myself how it turned out helped me make my final choice!

Ooh your paint colour choices are very nice! My partner and I are trying to buy a house at the moment and painting walls is something I'm looking forward to being able to do. I'm also setting myself new art goals - I've never been very good at backgrounds and environments so I'm going to make an effort to learn.

Loish

that's a great goal! I'm also trying to tackle environments, specifically stuff that involves perspective and a sense of scale.
