I'd wish I'd found your Patreon sooner. I rarely see artists of your skill making tutorial like this. Let alone in video format! I'm supporting one of my favorite artists and investing in myself at the same time!

This tutorial was everything I needed 💕 not only you showed your process on making the drawing more interesting, but you went beyond reminding us the importance of telling stories and being mindful about the composition, as well as the final tips, I will for sure keep all of that in mind from now on. Thank you for sharing your creative process. :)

glad you liked it rodrigo! I feel like those two topics are easily enough material for their own tutorial, but hopefully within the context of the this one they make for helpful tips!

Esther

Amazing tutorial Loish ♥️ I've always wondered how you created such visually interesting digital paintings, I have the image of the girl swimming upwards with the jellyfish as part of my wallpaper (it's a collage) and I just love looking at it and noticing so many details in the colours and lines, gah! I aspire to create that level of interest in my own work, thank you for this. I'm curious about your shading because obviously you've had years of practice but it didn't seem like you had a specific light source and yet the shadows and lighting look convincing even though the shapes as you said were a bit random, is this something that you did think about carefully or do you just intuitively know where to add the darker and lighter colours so they look visually harmonious but also convincing? Sorry rambly question but just to say your shading looked really good even though you were adding what seemed to me like random shapes 😁

hey esther! it's true, i don't really use a specific type of lighting setup, i just kind of wing it. my process for lighting is less focused on light and more on sculpting out the volumes. i think this tutorial explains the process in more detail: https://www.patreon.com/posts/tutorial-with-53897099 let me know if that answers your question, and if not, let me know - i can make a lighting tutorial in the future!

AV

This is such a helpful, detailed, completely followable tutorial and explanation of your thought process. Thank you Lois!!!

Vickie

Thank you for creating these videos, you have inspired me a lot. I love the first painting you did already, but when you add variation and detail, it is just so much more interesting to look at , love them!

Fedde

Your talent is simply amazing! You make it all look so easy and "random" as you say, but there is really an incredible amount of experience if everything you do. VERY inspiring!

Victoria

Great lesson!

Petr Macháně

This is like watching Mozart composing. Thank you!

JASON WILLIAMS

Beautiful. Really love the hair in this one and all the chunky details. You really make the colors sing! Amazing.

Ray

You know, give her red hair and cargo pants and she'd looks like Kim Possible!

Ray

I really needed this. I've been creating photorealistic artwork for many years, so "letting go" of so many details is foreign to me! I'm going to try the techniques you used and see how it goes.
