QUESTION // do you have issues playing videos here on patreon? (Patreon)

Hello lovely patrons! As you might know, a few months ago all of my video content was migrated to the Patreon platform. However, many of you have reported video playback issues, specifically one where the video stops playing a few minutes in and can't resume playing anymore after that. It sounds incredibly frustrating!

I've been reporting these issues to the Patreon staff, because the tool is in beta and so they need to know so they can work to fix it. However, they have a lot of questions (which device, OS, app and/or browser, etc is being used when the problem occurs) and these are things I don't always know. Basically they need more information and would really like to get in touch with users who have this issue. So my question to you is: do you have a problem watching the videos here on Patreon, and would you be willing to talk to Patreon staff about it? If so, please reach out to me so I can make that happen! No pressure either way, but any help would be enormously appreciated :) For now, the temporary solution is to watch the videos from the links provided in this post, so be sure to check that out if you have trouble watching anything! Unfortunately yes, it happened yesterday and I was so ready to spend the evening watching your videos on my iPad but they always stop at some random point because at some errors and then they never start again ahah. But I thought it was a problem of mine!

Hey Loish, I was actually gonna write you about this subject, asking you if I was the only one with the problem. So, yes, this happens to me, and it would be ok for me to get in touch with the Patreon staff and answer some questions regarding this problem. Thank you for reaching out. I do sometimes experience issues with the videos. It may freeze and stop buffering. It's hard to reproduce for the investigation through, because I believe the problem is on the Patreon side. Anyway, it works for the purpose of watching a new video a few times a month. It worth mentioning that it was not flawless with Vimeo either, for other reasons though. Among the streaming platforms YouTube is the best, if you want to make it perfect. As for Patreon, I wish they better figure out how to deliver compresses image files. It's painful on mobile to wait for images to load.

I do have this problem on pretty much any video. I am using an 11 inch ipad currently on IOS 15.5, using the safari browser. The video usually plays to a certain point, then stops, shows an error message and only clearing the cache / document & data helps to get it to work again. If the Patreon staff has any further questions, I wouldn‘t mind answering them. =)

I'm on an apple laptop using Chrome and haven't had any issues so far. I think I have the penultimate update (I'm putting off the latest one as I have no memory for it...!). Have also used my phone to watch videos which is an android (one plus) on the Chrome app and also no issues!

I've had those issues in Safari, but as other have mentioned already they work much better in Chrome.

Yes! I watch the videos while I run on a treadmill and it usually stops after 20 minutes and I have to refresh the page and find the video again, after which it will resume from the poimt where it ended. I have an android and I watch the videos straight from the patreon link in my gmail<3

Loish I use a desktop Mac running Monterey. I use Chrome browser current Version 103.0.5060.53. I have experienced the issue. It does appear the issue is with Crome browser as I tested Safari and did not have the issue. However based on others posts I am testing safari again. I am a Senior Web Developer and might be able to help. I would like to.

Hi Loish, I’ve been experiencing this issue on all my devices, both using Safari or Chrome and the app! I thought I was just having connection issues. The thing is, I previously managed to still watch your videos with a workaround: I closed the app/browser, opened it up again, started the video and went to the exact minute I’d left off. But now that they’ve introduced a new feature that lets you resume a video where you left it off, this workaround doesn’t work anymore because the video doesn’t refresh 😅 so I’ve been watching them on your Vimeo lately!

Hi Loish! I do have these issues constantly. I'm willing to talk to them about it :) but in the meantime, I'm on macOS Monterey and using Chrome as my browser. I've discovered that videos do resume playing if I skip ahead and refresh the page, but then they're automatically on mute. Thanks for checking in with this situation :)

Hi Lois! In my case, I have been a patron since 06/17 and in my first video I had this problem. At the time, the access had been through my cell phone (a Samsung Galaxy A11), I just can't remember if I was connected through the Patreon app or through the page via Chrome. On my notebook, everything was fine (a Dell, via Chrome) . Anyway, I just did a new test and everything is fine here (access is currently all ok via mobile (in the app or website)). On the notebook, everything is fine too.

Im on ipad and i;ve had issues exactly as where you describe. The video will play to a point, then freeze and not restart or continue forward. I am on an ipad prom2nd gen 12 in and a 9.5 in ipad pro 1st gen. It has happened on both devices.

Im on android and windows, personally i haven't experienced these issues, the videos play just fine for me.

I've been also experiencing these issues, happened everytime with new video, ever since you started posting them in different format here on Patreon. Nothing helped, not even restarting. But I'm watching without subtitles and when I got this issues, I tried playing the one with subtitles and it worked. Weird..

Just joined and earlier I could access everything via your pinned post on a MacBook using edge browser. However now I’m on my iPad the link wants the password which I got from your post above but it just says session has expired so unable to view via iPad using the Patreon app.

I have had some trouble with the video freezing and needing to refresh when I watch using Safari browser on my ipad.

Thanks for bringing this up! I have video playback issues when streaming through safari browser on iPad. I also had issues wit h Vimeo, but because you had the option to adjust playback quality, I could lower the quality of the video and the videos would play through with no issues. I assumed, since I live in the middle of nowhere with less reliable internet that the slow internet speed and large video size was the problem. When the video stops playback it doesn’t resume from where you left off, it starts the video again entirely and even if you try to skip forward, playback fails again which is the frustrating thing.

I’m having issues with playback. Stops midway, and won’t restart, I have to reload the whole page again. I use and iPad Pro and have great internet access.

Hello Loish. So glad you brought this topic. I have issues with playing videos too. The video just randomly stops playing at any minute. It may happen at the beginning and sometimes it’s in the middle. To me it usually happens on MacBook in chrome and in safari too if I remember correctly. Refreshing the page DIDNT help me, clearing cache didn’t help either. So a video just freezes forever. If I watch the same video on the Patron app on iPhone or iPad the video plays from the beginning to the end. My internet is most of the time stable and has a good speed so I wouldn’t blame this on it at this point.

Hi! New sub here :) beautiful artwork, yes I am having trouble watching any videos. They play for a bit then stop and show an "error" message. I have already reached out to Patreon support, waiting to hear back. I have a MacBook Air (M1 chip) laptop, it happens regardless if I refresh, log out and back in, or on any browser.
