I’m going through a bit of a rough patch with my mental health at the moment. I’ve been through difficult times before and I have some idea of what I need to do to start feeling better, but it always takes some time. So for now I’m making sure to take care of myself and just waiting for my brain to become a friendlier place. And using art as a way to vent these feelings. I hope you like this one! I got the inspiration / reference image from unsplash, it’s included in the pictures above.

The decorative yellow wallpaper in the upper left corner looks amazing!! 😍 Really adds something to the piece. Did you hand draw that part or use some kind of texture overlay? (Also I hope you start feeling better soon!! 💖 It’s definitely a climb getting back to a good place for sure)

Adrian Doran

sorry to hear you're not feeling well, hope you feel better soon. Very smart to make sure you take care of yourself.

Loish

yeah definitely copy/pasted that on as a texture and painted in a little bit!

Jos Gonzalez Art

Loish! 🥺 hope you feel better a step at a time, big hug and hope you know there is absolutely no pressure from our end, keep being awesome (sorry to speak for everyone, but I think is true) take all the time you need if that is what you want to do.

I really feel this. For the past months I’ve been struggling a lot and sort of being stuck and waiting for it to be better, and I now finally feel like I am starting to feel better. For me slowing down was really the key I realized now, I felt like I was rushing through it all, not taking it in. But it took me so long to gather this strength to really go up against it. So long story short, sending you lots of love and take care of yourself and give it time!❤️🌞

Arteliisa

Also using art as a place to put down all those feelings is so essential to me!!

You are not alone! I so admire your ability to channel your emotions / struggle with mental health into your art. I know when I’m struggling, art feels like the safest space, but it’s tricky to keep sharing it online when it’s so vulnerable! 🥰 Sending love from Calgary !

Mental health maintenance for artists is SO real!!! This pandemic/post-pandemic world feels so unknown, unsure, and unstable, but everything SEEMS like it’s back to normal. It isn’t at all, and it just creates a weird feedback loop of being frozen and freezing more. That’s been my experience anyway. I was also recently diagnosed with both ADHD and autism, and although it’s been a positive thing to have answers, it opened a whole world of mental health situations I wasn’t prepared for. For me, talking about what I’m processing is so helpful, if nothing more than to know I have support. I support you and I hope you are hanging in there! My name is Lux and I used to be an aquarium mermaid. If we ever meet in real life, I’ll let you borrow one of my tails and we can play mermaids, draw mermaids, and let our inner children come out and heal !!! 🤭🥰

Lindsay

lovely, moody piece. hang in there! there are brighter days ahead. 💛

This is beautiful Lois. Very emotive, and you can feel the story here. Be easy with yourself, and you'll get through this rough patch. Just know that you're not alone <3

Barbara Racca

Thank you for sharing, Loish- thinking of you and believing that you will soon find your way to the lighter side-- as so much of your work and words have done for me.

From time to time, one feels the need to stop for a moment, like when climbing a mountain, we stop to see if we move in the right direction. At the moment I am also standing, just looking around which direction should I go, which one will be my way. Take care of yourself, it is spring, good time for a fresh start ❤️ . This piece is touching btw 🥰

natka01

This is gorgeous - even your first colour rendering made me think of concept design for Pixar or somoething. SO cool. And sorry about the mental heth thing - it's so nice knowing that you WILL get through it and knowing what to do, but the feelings are sucky all the same. SUCKY. Hope you can give yourself lots of love and blankets and your favourite TV shows and cat cuddles. Human cuddles too.

JuliHello

Sending love to you Loish!! Take care ❤️

It’s a lovely drawing and definitely okay to be situated where you are. 💛

ArtG

This is incredibly beautiful.

Mildred

Color balance really is magical, or overlay (which I don't think you used)?, love the detail on the walls, so much detail. How did you use patterns on the walls to be believeable? Please do a tutorial on this! Thanks!

Yurika

Quite an introspective piece. Solemnly peaceful. You are allowed to feel what you feel. Please do whatever you need to do to take care of your mind. Sending you good vibes, and wishing you kinder days ahead.

Kara Waters

Sorry you’re having a challenging season. I’ve felt similarly lately, so know that you are NOT alone. I appreciate your transparency, authenticity and all that I continue learning from you. 💛🙏🏾

Katie Dalton

Reminds me of The Yellow Wallpaper which is also about mental health. Take care! Always appreciate everything you do.

Kamellia

Hope that you are able to get through this rough patch well, sending you lots of positive thoughts and appreciation. We care and appreciate you! <3

Please feel some of the admiration and support I and others are sending. You are an exceptional artist and teacher. You have changed lives for the better. I can't see inside your mind, but if you look outward, you will see a large following of artists who owe you a great deal. Take time to heal as you need. Dare I say it: You are loved by many!

Mildred

We all go through difficult problems in life. Know that it is all temporary, and life doesn't stay down forever, it all ends. Just try to be positive and look for something to keep going even if it is like a mustard seed. It's ok. Trust me. No one is perfect, nothing is perfect, and a lot of things trigger one and the other. This life is imperfect, no one ever remains happy forever, there is always something. Work through it like we all are and know that you are definitely not on your own.

Hope you feel better super soon Lois, and that your cats give you lots of love to help you ^^

Sharizal Halim

Take care Lois! Know that your art has always brought some sort of peace and joy to many, including me! When your art hits the right people, your heart is in the right place. But it's also valid to have downtimes with our emotions, so take all the time you need to recover!

Clarissa

This is my favorite room scene piece of yours! You can feel everything you mentioned in your piece❤︎ Thank you for being so open with your mental health journey-it gives me so much courage to put myself out there because I struggle with depression & anxiety too x

Loish

thanks so much for your kind words elisa. i think some of my struggles might be linked to pushing myself a bit too hard for too long. i guess i really got used to being really hard on myself for a long time and now i need to change course for a bit. I'm glad to hear you're feeling better!

Loish

thank you! art is definitely a form of therapy for me when i'm going through a rough time. it allows me to just disconnect and focus on the task in front of me and it silences the overthinking in my brain for a bit.

Loish

it's great you got that diagnosis, but from what i've heard from folks around me who went through a similar thing, it can be so challenging too because you start a process of re-evaluating so many things in your life! but it's good that you can now find the help you need, so much therapy out there is not made for people with autism and it's important to find the right kind of support. thanks so much for your kind words!

Loish

thank you! yeah that's something i struggle with: just accepting that things aren't great right now. i always want things to be fixed immediately and i'm really impatient, so this is challenging. i'm getting lots of love from my kitties and arjen, so that's helping a lot!!

Loish

hey mildred! honestly I just copy/pasted a pattern, changed the blending mode and painted over it a bit, hehehe. the easiest possible way to add a pattern! for the color adjustment, i lowered the contrast and then brought back some warmth with color balance :) it's what i do whenever i feel like the contrast is off.

Loish

i'm sorry you're going through that too. wishing you strength!! let's hope for a happier and warmer season ahead!

Loish

thank you! it's tough to talk about it sometimes because when my mental health is doing badly, i want to isolate and not tell anyone which tends to make it worse. so many people go through it though! hugs!!

Lise Hopland

It is a lovely representation of emotional struggle. Talking about the bad stuff is hard, and sometimes just saying that things are hard is enough. I hope and wish for you to feel better soon. And I am cheering you on from afar!

Frederik Gheysen

No words can make you feel better right now. I know. Take some time off. We won’t go anywhere. We stay with you. Like a blanket.

Hi Lois, that’s really hard, I hope you start feeling better soon.

Mildred

Love the drowning of papers on the floor also, overall great detail.

Samantha Jeffers

): I’ve noticed being around certain people can make my self esteem decline. Or maybe it’s a season you’re going through. I hope you’re feeling better

Loish

thank you! certain social situations can have a huge influence for me too. i'm doing a lot better!

Steven campbell

I’m new here, you are very inspiring in your imagery and your words, I hope you are on the mend. You are very inspirational. Thank you for all that you do!
