Lego Icecream Mechs (Patreon)

The mechs in Dessert Planet are tricky to draw since they don't have the typical humanoid shape that I'm so used to drawing. Sherbet's mech has six limbs, which are hard to keep track of, while Sundae's mech has really weird leg joints. As if this weren't already hard enough, mechs often appear in chaotic, action-heavy scenes. Mentally trying to figure out the proper pose and positioning is extremely difficult.
To make life easier on myself, I constructed these reference models out of Lego bricks. They aren't pretty, but they're highly poseable and proportioned very close to their comic counterparts. Sherbet's mech even has its extending claw!
When referencing these models for a panel, I simply adjust them until I get the right pose, then place them to the side of my drawing tablet. Easy.
