Please for the love of fuck I want you to do an entire 10 minute micro video on some incredibly niche thing you're interested in. The less impactful/important the better. I want to hear a 10 minute tirade about hand dryers. I want to hear 10 minutes on Bluetooth headphones. I want 10 minutes of undiluted, unfocused, unmoderated "what-the-fuck-ever"

I feel you, I’m in a similar slump right now. It’s so hard to create when you’re just trying to get by. Honestly, watching this made me feel less alone. I’ve been coping lately by feeding my middle school self - reading comics & listening to music I liked back then. Learning how to have fun again :)

I would love to recommend you watch Markiplier to have a laugh. I have recommended before to watch A Heist with Markiplier but for more emotions watch In Space with Markiplier. I promise you will have a good time even if you have never watched his stuff before. He is my coping. I watch his videos with his friends where they are having fun to laugh until I cry. So, if you want that watch Pogostuck what if we were tied together. They all are laughing so hard and having so much fun I use it when I am very depressed, and I always laugh. SO, I will be the patron talking to you about Markiplier until you watch lol. I have been on a healing journey from depression for my whole life. I got better and healed after I found Markiplier. I know I am the one in charge of healing, but he is the most giving wonderful human being. Anyway, I am not doing well now either so I hear you loud and clear, but I am still going, and I am here to support you in any way I can. Please take care of yourself!!!

hey ro! to answer your question, i really just try to submerge myself into music or content as much as possible. the new quadeca and brakence albums really have kept me fed and a lot of lamp and ichiko aoba for when i just sit on my bed and lay there. i also got a free 30 day trial for ableton and ive been messing around in there and learning about synths and stuff. I feel like the worst times in my life are also when I hone in on something to distract myself so thankfully its something generally productive this time. i also learned to how to solve the rubiks cube too. diving into shiny new thing helps me when im especially burnt out. hope you feel better soon!

Hi ro, first time i've commented on something like this! I'm glad you're slowly working your way through your mental slog- it's never easy, but I know you'll come out the other end a more experienced and creative person :) For me, I tend to cope in a couple of different ways. One thing I do is watch a video or movie I've seen before, and I just try to take in every detail to gain a deeper understanding. (This works better for feature-length videos) Another way to cope is to play a game I'm good at- my go-tos are fighting games and high-speed platformers. Similar to the above, I love seeing the ways that I can interact with mechanics, and speedrunning a stage or getting top 8 in an online tournament makes me feel like my time spent was put to good use (Also certain fgc discords are very fun and welcoming) One more thing I do is to go for a drive- no matter how long- and sing along to songs I know the words to. Not only is this just a simple pleasure, it's helped me raise the pitch of my voice to a place where I feel comfortable in, helping me combat my dysphoria. (I'm currently listening to Hiatus Kaiyote a bunch- Nai Palm's vocals are very challenging to sing along to lol) I know this was very long, but I think the thing I've learned is that we have something to gain from even the smallest of pleasures, and that no action we take on this earth is truly wasted. I think that's also what draws me to your videos- topics I normally wouldn't care about are given wholly new perspectives and something to glean from. Anyway, thank you for the update! I hope you have a good rest of your week! (Also if you're interested in the narrative of a game, I suggest Pyre-it does something amazing with its narrative and is made by SuperGiant so you KNOW it's good!!!)

hello my answer is a little bit random but I bought this real fancy journal with some sort of leather binding and metal charms and whenever I feel bad I just write in it with a super smooth gel pen and sort of romanticize the expression of my feelings in this way - its theme is trans ramblings but honestly that’s what’s been putting a damper on my mood for the past whenever so yeah journaling good and romanticizing self care also helps. may the clouds soon part for all of us ☀️

I'm glad that is sounds like you're doing better! I'm routing for Ro!!! When I'm feelings really bad, especially if I'm just in a numb state of detachment, I like to treat myself the way I would an animal at a zoo. I don't know why, but thinking stuff like "showers are important for this animal's health, it needs to go in the shower", "this animal is lethargic, let's get it something good to eat", etc.

when im feeling strange i really like to go to a new part of my city/town that i’ve never been to and pretend i live there instead, find what stores i would have to shop at or what resources are over there, maybe treat myself to some donut shop or bakery or something in the area for my trek over lol just takes me out of my own life for a few hours

I resonate with what you said about trying to rediscover fun and I've also coped in the past by throwing myself at video games and media. I'm happy to hear your living situation is more stable and you've been dealing with less stress. I think that when you find a decent sense of stability, the ability to relax also means you end up processing the things you previous pushed past. And, of course, that can lead to a period where your mental health is more unwieldy than ever. Wishing you luck with improving your mental health.

when i feel depressed i listen to a song called farts in my butt and then after i still feel depressed but then im giggling too 🤭

When I feel depressed there's a very specific set of three video games that I play through, sometimes just one, and sometimes all three back-to-back. Them being Super EDF, Super R-Type and Super Aleste, all for the SNES. They've all got very mellow, jazzy soundtracks and I've played through them so many times that they're something I can turn my brain off to and appreciate the visuals and the sound. Another thing I do is listen to uplifting music. One of my favorites is a song called Metal Squad from the game Thunder Force IV.

I am extremely depressed a lot of the time and I cope with a very carefully curated tumblr dash. I know I can go to tumblr and see exactly the kind of content that gives me comfort.

Nothing in nature blooms year round, it's ridiculous to expect that of yourself and your creativity. To answer the end question, when I'm feeling especially gray, I sometimes like to pretend that I've just been dropped into my surroundings replaced by an alien or a thirteenth century peasant. I explore my house and belongings with a new sense of curiosity and wonder and it really helps me get out of feeling like a caged animal with no enrichment.

Iconically, your videos are also what I watch when I need some grounding. You remind me how to feel down to earth. I primarily listen to a playlist of music Ive built for myself when Im down. Doesnt always pick me up, but it feels good to know I care.

in the long term, there are 2 things that got me through the 3 years of my life where i was unspeakably depressed—therapy and time. the way i actually made it through the day and survived those 3 years, though, was by doing whatever it took to endure what i was feeling. that for me meant a lot of dissociative media binging, just distracting myself enough to take the pain to a place where it was bearable enough not to die. i wouldn’t recommend anything else than to continue whatever it is you have turned to so far to make it through the day. i spent so much time searching for answers or for the things that would save me, but those weren’t things i could grasp in any given moment, they appeared slowly and silently, and i hardly noticed they were there until i realized i was finding myself doing things that weren’t methods of coping. i wish i could deliver something more helpful than the truth of what happened for me, and i wish i could take your pain away. you are so much more than what the voices in your head want you to believe, and i promise that one day you will find yourself able to speak back to them. until that day, protect yourself and your life by doing whatever it is that you have to do to keep yourself self. don’t let anyone tell you that you should be doing more, or that you should be doing something different. they have the best intentions, they love you and want to help you, but i learned during my worst moments that if you want to survive for them, if you want to give them what they want most—for you to be okay—you have to respond to your immediate needs. they may not understand that now, but they will. take care of yourself, Ro. i promise that we will still be here when you’re feeling better. All that matters is your well-being, and you deserve to believe that for yourself, too, one day soon. thank you for your hard work, both on youtube and each day you spend pushing forward. there are good things waiting for you, i know it.

To answer your end-of-video question: when I'm depressed I will light a candle in my living room. It's super simple which makes it doable. And sometimes I call my friend Amiee.

my favorite coping mechanism is my electric blanket or heating pad. i used to carry one around campus with me when i was in college and now i keep one by my bed and by my desk at work. it helps with anxiety, cramps, or the cold weather. sometimes all three. that or probably playing old video games/watching my favorite media from when i was a kid. avatar the last air bender, early 2000’s barbie movies, playing webkinz, etc. helps me take all my scattered anxious thoughts and turn them into something digestible. i start talking to myself as if i were a kid and guiding my child self through the thoughts. little me didn’t know she had adhd/ocd/depression but she knew how to see the joy in things. so while she helps me see the joy i now tend to overlook, i help her know her mental patterns better. i hope that makes sense
