Huge shoutout to Devindra for the podcast recommendation. I’m working this weekend and I’m going to finish this season of Scene on Radio.

J.S.

Damn, they stepped on Devindra’s Sony-gy joke.

Papool Chaudhari

Pacific Science Center is not film IMAX. The closest theater that supports film 70mm IMAX for Dave is in Langley, BC, Canada.

Grant McConnaughey

I appreciated the political section of your discussion. Thanks for doing that.

Bmac

Devindra, I gotta disagree with you. Republicans like Dick Cheney are every bit and more of the monsters Trump is. It’s morally reprehensible to celebrate him or his endorsement in any way. Harris’s commitment to reaching out to republicans has been eye rollingly pathetic

Anton Joll

I don’t remember the name of the person was addressing the public in that cinema David went to, but my first thought was how long before this is AI created.

Eric Webster

When Devindra was talking about teaching his daughter how the world works, did anyone else have Bo Burnham pop into their head?

Russell Hull

I edited the special message from Sean Baker 🤣 He did indeed record about 40 of them in a row!

Russell Hull

Sean Baker, director of ANORA. As the person who edited it, it would not have saved time making AI do it vs just sitting the director in front of a camera for 20 minutes!

Reynaldo K. Cruz

Great episode gentlemen! Love when you talk policy. And JEFF, it’s Quill. Peter quill, not Quinn. I’m worried about your “marvel zombie from way back” status!

Rob

I don’t recall anyone celebrating Dick Cheney in this podcast? And I think the response to that particular move from Dem voters has been a Michael Bluth-esque “Him? Really?”

Kamala's commitment to reaching out to Republicans is just good politics. She needs to win the vote, and Republicans can help her do that. It does nobody any good to "stay pure" and lose the election, damning us to the hellscape that is Trump 2.0. When you're trying to prevent a catastrophe, you should be willing to set aside your pride and take help from anyone you can get. One of the biggest groups left of potentially undecided voters are the Nikki Haley Republicans, who have always voted GOP but who don't like Trump. If Kamala can get their vote, she'll win, and that's all that matters. To deny that is to simply be unaware of how dangerous Trump winning again would be.

In the late 80’s, 14 yr old me and my best friend once recounted the entire Blade Runner script in sequence under our breath to each other during a morning assembly at school.

I may have worked a few years at a place that rhymes with Dalamo Afthouse. One could THEORETICALLY do one of two easy things with a gift card at their place of work. 1. Employees usually get half off food up to a certain dollar value. So if used for food this would technically double the cards value. With such a lowered bill that server would tip their server heavily to offset the discount with the larger tip. So you would have helped TWO servers if they went that route. This is what I would do. 2. If someone ordered say a popcorn and soda. The server could use the card to take off the popcorn off the bill after closing the tab out. So if it was a 5 dollar tip and 10 dollar popcorn. It is now a $15 tip without affecting the final authorized total. This isn’t exactly right or legal, but it’s been known to be done as long as it doesn’t impact the customer at places in the food industry. Either way…good on Jeff for helping out the wait staff.

Fell to my knees when Devindra said his daughter was 6. Where does the time go

David Esposito

I’m really happy you guys aren’t Trump supporters.

Came here to second his recommendation! Scene On Radio is awesome. I would highly recommend seasons 2 (Race) and 3 (Men) as well.

Schwarzenegger really would have been a good uniter. Definitely don't mind politics talk, the fear/anger is all valid, but it can be hard to hear rationality go out the window sometimes. Constantly calling the NY rally a 'Nazi rally' as a fact... Saying Trump wanted to put Liz Cheney in a target squad, just ignoring what he actually said. Devindra seems to have a 'ends justify the means' view of truth in political discussions. Lots of reasons to hate Trump and what's happening without losing perspective. Schwarzenegger had a great rational message

Shane Driscoll

When Trump lost in 2020, I said, "Whelp, we are no longer living in the worst timeline." But now I can't help but wonder if Trump winning this time around would be even worse than if he had just won a consecutive term. First of all, if he wins now, he'll go into office thinking "Now it's payback time," and do anything and everything he can to inflict vengeance on anyone and everyone who he feels was responsible for his humiliating loss in 2020. On top of that, he'll go into office knowing it's very possible that, once he's out of power, he'll again be at risk of facing criminal charges. So, Trump being Trump, he'll do anything and everything to assure that he'll never be out of power, term limits and constitutionality be damned. P.S. - Guys, ease up on Jeff for the gift card thing. Were I the theater employee, I would have happily resold the gift card to a friend or family member at a discount. Even 50% would be a great exchange for a glass of ice water.

Hey Dave, Devindra, and Jeff! I’m writing this on Saturday the 2nd, so I have no idea how the election is going to turn out. This after dark has got me thinking though- you’ve been talking a lot about your worry for gen Z and their feelings on the election. That’s me. I was 13 when Trump was first elected (already a listener of the podcast for a year!) and I vividly remember my parents coming home, almost upset that they had voted at all. I was 17 for the 2020 election and I remember the excitement I felt among my peers that *some* of us could go out and vote Trump out, even in Texas. My parents came home that year eager to show me their “I voted” stickers. I’m now 21 and finishing my bachelor’s degree at Georgia Tech, and last Monday I mailed my ballot out. I can’t describe the fervor to vote that’s taken over my college. It’s everywhere-all around campus there are booths and flyers and protestors. The young people my age WANT to vote. Our adolescence was Trump and then Covid- we’re all hopeful for change. Don’t be disheartened! Many of us don’t want to go back. And, hopefully, we won’t.

AF

Not a “Trumper” and not voting for the man but Jeff’s reference to the Cheney firing squad misinformation and Devindra referring to the NYC rally as a Nazi Rally are the very reasons to steer clear of politics. Guys, if you’re going to wade into these waters, and demand truthful integrity of the media at large, then you really should correct the records on your own show.

Lee
>>154150458

Yep. I don't think they care. They talk about being for policy over politics then don't care about the truth if it doesn't serve their cause. I get it though - ends justify the means to them

AF
>>154150458

I hate the term but it really is textbook TDS.

DarmineDoggyDoor
>>154150458

Sorry but that’s a credulous reading of Trump’s remarks. He knows how his words will be received, but he also knows to maintain a shred of plausible deniability. Like when he said “You have to fight like hell or you won’t have a country anymore” on J6 — did he technically tell anyone to be violent? No, but he knew exactly how those words would be received, and we saw what happened. At this point anyone who thinks he says ANYthing in good faith or deserves any benefit of the doubt is a sucker.

Stranger2Reality

For the commenters here saying the MSG event wasn't a Nazi rally, why wasn't it? What makes something "a Nazi rally"? Does there need to be the presence of swastika flags? Because those have been at MANY Trump rallies and events over the years (they've even sold them at merch booths at Trump rallies). Do they need to praise Hitler? Because Trump has done that, both in private to many people (just ask John Kelly, his former chief of staff), and also in public like he did on Joe Rogan's podcast last week. So why was it not a Nazi rally? Those people all are very vocal about supporting a racist dictatorship with Donald Trump as their divine leader. That's Nazism. And for the people saying he didn't say Liz Cheney should face a firing squad, just that she should instead be murdered in battle, please. He's called for his enemies to be executed for treason (like his former chairman of the Joint Chiefs, Mark Milley), has called for Liz Cheney and many others to face "military tribunals", and has said if elected he plans to use the US military against anyone who opposes him in America, "the enemy within". You people defending him, or apologizing for him, and calling these very accurate comments about him and what he stands for "TDS" are either badly uninformed or misinformed, or you're being just as dishonest as he is. The way the hosts categorized him and his rallies and comments was 100% accurate to what his intentions are. It would be foolish and dishonest to attempt to argue otherwise.

Anton Joll
>>154150458

Agree. Lies(misleading information) should be upsetting on both sides. I hate Trump for many reasons, but lying is one of the biggest, but sometimes it is extra difficult when you see people in "your camp" crossing that line.

Stranger2Reality
>>154126354

All the stuff Trump is planning for a second term now is the same stuff he would have done if he was reelected in 2020. Trump had already gotten rid of all the people who wanted to keep the guardrails in place by the end of his term. He had already begun the process of using schedule F to fire the entire civil servant federal employees so he could replace them with loyalists, and was already starting shit like his 1776 Project. If Trump had been reelected in 2020, democracy in America would already be long dead by now. Trump didn't become like this in the last 4 years, he's always been like this. It took him a couple years in the White House to figure out how to work to achieve his goals, and by the time he figured that out, Covid hit and he was voted out. If he wins this week, he'll just pick back up where he left off, with nothing but loyal sycophants surrounding him. But I don't think he's going to win. That new poll in Iowa, for people who know what I'm talking about and what its importance could mean, should scare the shit out of Trump. I think Kamala could wind up winning by a big margin.

Stranger2Reality
>>154150458

Can you explain why the MSG event was not a Nazi rally? What elements are crucial to a Nazi rally that were lacking there? Also, can you explain why it's somehow preferable or more acceptable to threaten to send your political opponents and critics to the front line in a war zone to be killed as opposed to having them face a firing squad? You seem to be hung up on the logical fallacy known as a distinction without a difference. Trump is a Hitler loving fascist who wants to kill his critics, those are just true statements.

DarmineDoggyDoor
>>154150458

His latest quote is “To get me, somebody would have to shoot through the fake news. And I don’t mind that so much.” (PA rally today) This is the guy we should give the benefit of the doubt over the Cheney quote? As if he’s a peace-loving hippie? lol Gimme a f-ing break

Wil Johnson
>>154150458

100 percent agree. I know Dave corrected Devindra about the trash truck thing but unfortunately Devindra makes blatantly false political statements all of the time and the other two just accept them as fact.

Lee
>>154150458

Yep. Devindra even pushed back on the correction. I was thinking about it and I think that's why I find political discussion on this podcast painful, compared to other podcasts I listen to. Devindra's false statements wouldn't just be accepted as fact

Stranger2Reality
>>154106393

What's the specific issue with calling the MSG event a Nazi rally? In your mind, what is it that makes this a categorically untrue statement? Trump has repeatedly praised Hitler, both in public and in private. Trump has publicly promised to put millions of people in detention camps, based almost entirely on racism. People fly swastika flags at his rallies, and they're even sold there. His supporters wear Nazi paraphernalia to his events and yell "white power" and Trump tweets them out doing so. He's invited Nazis to his house to have dinner with them. So please, tell me why it's wrong to categorize that event as a Nazi rally. Additionally, tell me what bothers you about people saying he's advocated for Liz Cheney to be put to death? He's called for other people who oppose him to be executed for "treason" (Mark Milley), and he's previously called for Cheney and the other members of the January 6th Committee to face "military tribunals". So please let us know why you are upset by the way Devindra or the other hosts are characterizing these things? Trump is a Hitler-loving Nazi sympathizer who wants to put people he doesn't like to death. If you are unaware of these truths, then that's on you for not being informed, that's not on Devindra for speaking the truth.

Lee
>>154106393

I really don't disagree with you that Trump is terrible. My problem is he didn't advocate for Cheney's execution - and your not even arguing he did. What your saying is that because Trump is so terrible, and he did these similar things - that the truth doesn't matter about this. That it's okay to be incorrect and blatantly lie about Trump saying these things, because he is that terrible. To you, if the end result is less support for Trump, then that's more important than truth. That a okay position to have but to me if you've reached that level you have lost the ability to reasonably talk about politics

Stranger2Reality
>>154106393

He's advocated for the execution of other people, like his former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, Mark Milley, and has called for Cheney to face military tribunals. Then he advocated for sending her into a war zone where he imagined she'd be killed. Can you explain why this is somehow better than advocating for her to face a firing squad? And to be clear, yes, I do think he's advocating for her to be killed. And I noticed you completely ignored everything I said about his MSG event being a Nazi rally. If you think it's incorrect to call it that, feel free to give an explanation for why.

Lee
>>154106393

I tried to focus on a single thing to make my point - rather than go into all the different possible examples and argue about sources. The point is that he didn't advocate for Cheney to be executed - so repeating that, even though you know that's not the case - is blatantly lying to help your 'side'. That's what they did on this podcast, and that what seems to happen often, and that's what I have a problem with.

Stranger2Reality
>>154106393

He advocated for her to be killed in a war zone, so yes, he advocated for her to be killed. You said it was wrong to call the MSG event a Nazi rally but haven't yet said why. I would like to hear an explanation for why you don't think it was set up to deliberately echo the infamous 1939 rally in MSG by the German Bund Nazi party. I feel like you can't just say it wasn't a Nazi rally without explaining why you think that.

Phoebe Abdul
>>154150458

But did the speaker at the NYC rally not himself "joke" that it was a Nazi rally?

Phoebe Abdul
>>154106393

So what did he mean when he said that statement? Can you clarify what his point was??
