All right, so Final Fantasy: Stranger of Paradise. I'm fascinated by this game, man. I'm still not too deep into it, just got past the forest level, but... whenever I'm not playing it, I kinda wanna be playing it. The combat system is REALLY satisfying and clicks in a way that the Nioh games never really did for me. Still that kinda Souls-like combat; lock on enemy, circle around them, attack with the shoulder buttons and dodge their attacks. But the Final Fantasy element adds so much to it through the job system. Not only does each weapon have a unique moveset, but then you have the classic FF jobs adding new mechanics and abilities on top of that, which you can then swap between at least two on the fly to set up some very interesting combos. Cast spells as a Black Mage and then get in close as a Warrior, or pummel them with your fists as a Monk before swapping to Thief to steal items. There's so much build variety and loot to play with that the game becomes addicting just from seeing what kind of crazy shit you can do next with just a lil' more tinkering.
The story and characters are also just... weirdly endearing? Like, the acting and dialogue are stilted as hell, and you can tell there's obvious cuts to their presentation and pacing, but it all just... works, somehow, and comes out more charming because of it. Jack himself is an extremely simple, almost barebones character with a fitting design for someone who should be really boring conceptually on the surface, but something about his bluntness is just so fun. The man is literally attempting to skip cutscenes mid-dialogue. And yet, there's also a care for his party members, bantering back and forth with them on occasion. I have to see where they're going with this. I have to kill Chaos.
That's it for today, though! Thank you so much for the support, and see you on Friday!
