Surprise Star Fox announcement! If you haven't seen it yet, go youtube it now! I'll wait!
So yeah, like everyone else who played Star Fox 64 as a kid, that game is one of my favorite games of all time. So I was a bit... conflicted about the announcement. Dramatically different designs, another remake of 64 after 3DS and Zero (which isn't a remake but takes HEAVILY from 64). But the more I've sat on it, the more I've poured over the footage... I'm really excited.
There's a lot of care and detail poured into the game. Each character's ship has unique personal touches (graffiti'd wings for Falco, Fox and his dad's pawprints on Fox's ship), every single line in the game seems to have unique animations and lip synchs compared to the flapping heads of 64 and Zero. I'm REALLY excited about the additional cutscenes. The one thing my dork ass wanted from the Star Fox universe was to just be able to linger in it, see how the crew lives on the Great Fox, see what the hell the Great Fox even looks like. And I finally get that now! They have board games, there's a poster of Corneria on the ship with "home sweet home" written on it. They even seem to have added cutscenes for just choosing the different routes throughout the Lylat system. What are the warps going to look like? How will things like Slippy getting stranded be handled in game? What the hell are they going to do with Andross's fucking BRAIN? I gotta know!
And yeah, I dig the designs. They're not quite the original SNES box art puppets, but they feel like what the puppets were trying to capture. Star Fox as a series takes itself fairly seriously as an actiony space opera, and I think the designs fit perfectly as a weird alien animal alternate universe. I'm real excited to see more.
That's it for now, though! Thank you so much for your support, and see you on Monday!
