Leslie and I finished season 4 of X-Files last night. Never seen the series before until now, and unfortunately, I think this might be our stopping point. We LOVED the first two seasons. Great mysteries, great dynamic between Mulder and Scully, lots of intrigue and great sci-fi horror vibes. But... man, we have NOT been vibing with seasons 3 and 4. Mulder's increasingly more unlikable, Scully is ALWAYS painted dead wrong, their chemistry is barely hanging on with so many episodes where they're written out of character or completely at odds, and man, sometimes there's X-Files really can just feel like it's a Jerry Springer episode but with a conspiratorial plot stringing it together. A lot of "look at this freak!" kind of episodes that go nowhere.

Jose Chung's From Outer Space may have been one of the single greatest bits of television I had ever seen, I will give it that. But I think I'm good to call it on X-Files now. Time to find something new to wind down with in the evenings. Maybe finally check out Frieren or watch the Delicious in Dungeon anime. That or Seinfeld, still a lot

We stopped after season 6 I think. I'm glad you got to see Jose Chung's From Outer Space (from season 3), which was pretty marvelous. I don't blame you quitting since the quality does drop, but please do yourself a favor and watch Bad Blood from season 5 before you stop. It is flat out one of the most hilarious episodes of all. I put a few more recommendations from seasons 5 and 6 below. Personally I would say feel free to drop the show other than these if you're not into the meandering conspiracy stuff. There are probably a few others I'm not remembering offhand. Season 5, Folie à Deux, really cool episode with kind of a haunting ending. Season 5, The Post-Modern Prometheus is memorable but more sad and I don't know if you would like it. Season 6 How The Ghosts Stole Christmas is really funny and wholesome, one of my favorites of all. Other notable season 6 episodes are Drive (actor from breaking bad) and Arcadia (another funny episode).

Funny story, I wrote my previous comment BEFORE seeing you called out Jose Chung's From Outer Space. Yep, it's good. :D

I love both Frieren and Dungeon Meshi, but if I had to pick one for you to try, I'd recommend Dungeon Meshi in a heartbeat! It's funny, thrilling, and interesting! Their lore and stuff is super fun and Marcille is my favorite fail-girl

Nitro The Dog

The final few seasons of the X-files unfortunately are really bad, so I don't blame you for stopping. I have slogged through every episode, and seasons 7-9 are not very thrilling. I would at least suggest wrapping it up with both movies though! Movie 1 takes place right after s2 or s3, and the 2nd takes place after s9 but you don't actually have to watch those later seasons for context

TomCat

Did you at least see the episode with Bryan Cranston that got him the consideration for Breaking Bad?

AIX99

That's the episode Drive from season 6, which I suggested above as one to watch piecemeal.

Ama

Frieren is so chill! Hope you like it!

Kam Kam

Speaking of Netflix anime, Chainsmoker Cat is pretty fun (if not a bit gross in the first couple episodes)

Laios:: No, Marcille, it was not IN the garbage. It was ON the garbage... hovering, like an angel.
