So, Brad lore time. I have gigantic feet. Size 13 1/2. We have a convention coming up, and I was dreading the idea of walking that convention in my only pair of shoes, these cheap thick boots (since my previous sneakers fell apart). My feet ALWAYS hurt like hell after walking. For the longest time, I thought I was just a lazier person who simply got exhausted more easily after walking. I figured it was because I was overweight and didn’t exercise much, but even after dropping 50 pounds, exercising every day, I was still in constant foot pain from walking. So I figured I was just built different (worse) and that’s how it’s always gonna be.

But I had a thought. “I’ve never tried ‘good’ shoes before.” Living out in the swamps meant my shoe size options were… extremely limited. I was stuck with whatever shoes were even available in my size from the cheapest places I could afford. Your Payless, your Academy Sports, Wal-Mart. The only upscale shoe place was a Footlocker in a mall an hour away and I probably couldn’t afford anything there anyways, so why bother? I’ve never had “good” shoes, just shoes that were “okay” or at the very least slightly reduced the amount of pain I felt walking around. Never wore a pair of Nikes in my life. But we just happened to be near a Nike store while running some downtown errands, so… why not try?

I talked to a guy who gave me some recommendations, I slipped on a pair of Moto 2ks (actually in my size), and man… I damn near almost cried in the store. They felt like a DREAM. Even with my feet still sore as hell from the boots I was wearing before, they were just so goddamn nice to walk around in. I wasn’t built worse, I just never had good shoes that actually fit! I ended up getting them and goddamn, it feels euphoric. Bracing for the parts of walks around town where I’m expecting to feel pain and feeling nothing at all. Now instead of dreading our daily walks and spending hours afterwards recovering from the hurt and fatigue, I’m excited as hell and have energy to spare. I swear this ain’t a sponsored ad and I’m sure there are better namebrands, I clearly don’t know much about shoes. But man, it feels nice to feel nothing after a lifetime of foot pain.

That’s it for today, though! Thank you so much for your support (couldn’t have gotten these shoes without you!), and see you soon with monthly rewards!

I really hope we get a flashback to King at the height of his fame. I'm really curious what caused him to go full bubba hotep. Also Johnson's fucking satisfied smirk is priceless.

re: foot pain When I was a kid I had bad foot pain every day. My parents wound up getting me all kinds of fancy scans and tests and such done at a Scottish Rite hospital. The end result: the doctors told my parents to stop buying me crap shoes and get me good shoes. Decades later I can still feel the difference between good shoes and crap shoes in how my feet feel after walking or standing in them. So on the one hand it sucks that it took you so long to discover you could walk pain free. On the other hand you didn't have to pay doctors to tell you about what quality shoes can do. Glad you got that sorted!

So..in a sense....you could say....you finally found your "Sole-Mate"? 🦶💕👟🤔

My cousin designs shoes for Columbia and going shoe shopping with him at the employee store has been a life saver, I got these gorgeous Chelsea boots that have been my off court buddies ever since. Good shoes are the best

My grandfather used to manage a shoe store back in ye olden days (He's 91, so the store doesn't even exist anymore). He always used to say to invest in good shoes, no matter what because good shoes take care of your feet. He's absolutely right. On a side note, he would always asks my sister's boyfriends to show him their shoes because "you can tell the quality of a man by how he takes care of his shoes". Never quite understood exactly what he meant, but she's had various partners and a divorce and the only partner who has stayed with her was the only one grandpa deemed "nice to his shoes" so maybe there's something to that. 😂

hell yeah The King™️ get it

Yeah I work in a hospital and I always stress to my co-workers that buy cheap, uncomfortable shoes: "I know the good shoes I wear are expensive, but you'll spend far more money buying several pairs of bad shoes every time they wear out." And...your feet will thank you like yours do now. 😊 I personally like Hoka for shoes, and Brooks are good too. They tend to have more support in the long-term. And I checked! Their sizes go all the way up to 15-16. 😊

Dude, I learned a long time ago that good shoes are too important not to spend money on. I worked in a fast food place where I was moving around all the time and to work there, we needed slip-resistant shoes. They had no support and I hated working every shift. Then, I got insole supports for the shoes and it felt like a massive relief! I'm so glad you finally found shoes that are comfortable for you

You all need to get to steppin for these puns.

I feel you man. I have feet that are just 10 1/2 but are 6E wide so finding good shoes can be a Herculean task.

You know what they say about big feet! Hehehehehe ... Big shoes.

oh buddy, i went through th exact same experience a few years ago, after starting a job that needed me on my feet all day. it got to the point where my toes were going numb! my dad had a pair of nike air monarchs he'd barely worn that were close to my size (i'm only 12w) he said i'd should try, and i've never gone back. sometimes the higher price really is worth it.

I want more of the King’s back story eventually.

Oddly enough I also have size 13 / 14 feet, and they're weirdly wide. Duck feet, yeah yeah. Anyway New Balance was the only brand I used to find that had both the size and the width (I could never wear Nike because they were usually narrow / small), but in recent years I finally found a hiking boot brand called Merrell that I've stayed with. They are definitely expensive, and I usually get them in store every year or two so there's like a discount for getting 2 pairs, but the ankle support while hiking is really nice.

Not gonna lie, I cannot top this comment section. Really big shoes to fill

Good shoes are one of those things that are always worth the extra price tag for comfort and support. Like a new mattress, it's a decently long term investment, and definitely worth splurging on. Too many people just try to grin and bear it with foot pain, but that shit can cripple you badly. I got shoes that were too narrow once, and I got painful bunions on the insides as a result. Hurt like HELL. Always go for good shoes, brand and price tag be damned. It's necessary and worth it.

I don't recall seeing a notification for this 😭 The guy has a hot dad bod 👀 And Seth, wasn't the effect of their music on the crowd the whole point you signed em?

Also awkward feet gang represent. I'm a UK 10 (roughly a US11) depending on brand, but I have a wide foot and a high instep and jfc buying footwear has always been an ordeal

Bird

Right there with you, 14s but really 13 xxwide. Skechers has those (not particularly high quality and not particularly expensive, fwiw) it has been nice not ripping the pinky toe out of shoes. Why are large size shoes often so skinny?!
