Hi everyone, Rich here! It's been a pretty packed week for us away from the #content mines, meeting up with Gamer Network and IGN teams in London. John, Alex, Tom and I made it to the various meetings (Will's on holiday) so there was a bit of a #content gap this week, which we're now starting to fill!

We recorded DF Direct Weekly #165 at the IGN studio yesterday, which turned into a bit of an epic. It was shot at 4K, the Sony trailers for the State of Play are 4K, so this Direct is going to take longer to cook than usual, so expect a delay there. Just getting the two camera shots to Oliver turned out to be a bit of an epic, then we realised we had missing audio! Don't worry though, everything is sorted now and Oliver has all the required pieces of the puzzle.

In the meantime, don't worry - we've got you covered. Here's the second episode of Digital Foundry InDirect - our bonus show that's exclusive to Patreon supporters. John, Rich and Alex are your hosts for tackling questions put forward by you in a slightly more relaxed atmosphere than a standard Direct. Hope you enjoy this and there's more to come!

Of course, a podcast version of this show is available on our supporter-only feed, which you can access here: https://open.acast.com/public/patreon/fanSubscribe/593963

Somewhat unexpected shower scene in John’s square lmao

Re: Nintendo on PC I agree with John, it won't happen. Think about how tightly they protect their IP, and then look at what's happening in the PC modding community with Capcom (nude Chun-Li mod accidentally broadcast in an eSports tournament). Nintendo would never allow that to be a possibility. The one angle that I could see them supporting is cloud streaming: Nintendo games ported to PC, running on Nintendo's servers, streaming to client PCs in a very controlled, 'bespoke' Nintendo packaging.

Also, totally agree with what Rich and Alex said about owning a PC vs a console. I’d perhaps add my own 2 cents in that since switching to PC about 4 months ago, my game purchasing habits have changed. I now mostly play older games that I missed out on, and smaller indie titles. If I had to guess why, I’d say it’s a confluence of a few things - mild AAA burnout, Steam sales being sooooooo good, and the mental barrier of paying full price for a new game digitally. There’s something I can stomach about paying full price for a physical release, but I just can’t seem to do it for digital goods (Baldurs Gate 3 has been the only exception). I specced my PC to be able to play AAA PT juggernaughts at 4k, but nothing even slightly resembling that has been played to completion so far (although it’s nice to know it has enough petrol in the tank should the need arise). Thanks for the indirect guys, and hope all managed to stay on the right of the escalators in London!

Hope the injuries he suffered as a result weren’t too bad.

I own a switch and buy all. My switch games but still choose to play them on PC. and I don't think there is anything wrong with that. Switch 2 emulated titles will be on PC eventually.

And with "Starship Troopers" another great classic on John's TV. Looking forward to the next one ;-)
