Hello there and welcome to your weekly update to everything that is happening here at Digital Foundry. There wasn't actually a #content meeting today as I was on a client visit in London, the details of which will become clear later this week and in Direct #183 - but no, it's not Switch 2, but still quite interesting nonetheless. Aaaaany way, here's what's going on.

Rich (ie me) aims to get back to Intel Lunar Lake this week. A mobile chip that has a decent AI upscaler? Sounds like fun. I also received a Strix Point laptop last week too, so let the games begin - literally. Is there any interest in AI workloads outside of gaming? Anything you'd like testing? Unfortunately the Surface Laptop 7 has been returned, but I wouldn't recommend Snapdragon X Elite anyway...

Alex has limited time this week so is putting together a video on Tiny Glade, which is rather cool. Beyond that? Silent Hill 2 remake perhaps. Plus he's going to do a lot of the legwork on a project based on my visit today.

Oliver is working on embargoed content that - all being well - you'll see later on this week. It's an actual exclusive! And he's the main working on our Metaphor ReFantazio coverage, which he's immensely happy to be covering. Some changes have been made to Bazzite recently, but a lot of work has been done on that and the ROG Ally breakdown will happen!

Tom is going to be handling our Silent Hill 2 remake review, which features PS2 Retrotink 4K footage supplied by none other than Marc 'Try4ce' Duddleson. Bearing in mind the arrival of ray tracing in FC25, he might well be taking a look at that too.

John is on holiday and having a great time by the looks of it!

Will is back on the CPU benchmarking marathon. We're waiting for our automated benchmark for Dragon's Dogma 2 and a bit of debugging on the automated Baldur's Gate 3 run, but we intend to be ready for Arrow Lake-S.

I note from the comments that Aaron Espinello isn't happy that our Star Wars Outlaws optimised settings video never happened - and others are likely waiting for it too. We're in the busiest time of the year right now and sometimes promised #content doesn't happen and for that we can only apologise. However, I am making the notes available here which should give you plenty to work with: https://tinyurl.com/p3bxm837

No sign of Until Dawn code yet, so I can't see a review for launch being likely, but maybe something will be possible for Direct #183. In the meantime, feel free to comment on the above, ask questions or make suggestions on stuff we might have missed. Have a great week!

Hello Foundrymen I'm actually really curious what AI accelerated PC features you (aka Rich) are most excited for and which ones will help Digital Foundry create content faster, better and/or easier?

That exclusive sounds promising! Oliver just keeps delivering, congrats!

I love you Rich I am sorry it was all out of love ❤️

Just want to say I'm happy with how much Oliver we get lately.

Curious and hoping that the embargoed Contend Oliver is working on has something to do with PS5 Pro ✌🏼

Hi gamer guys! I've been a longtime Digital Foundry enjoyer and first time patron to pay my dues for the decade plus of free content I've enjoyed from the DF crew. My question is: how do you all feel about prioritizing efficiency vs. raw performance when it comes to tuning your personal PC rigs? I've noticed a sentiment online that considers the RTX 4000 series wasteful from a cost perspective relative to used parts, especially lower in the stack with the 4060(ti). While I agree that you can get some serious bang for the buck from a secondhand Ampere or AMD 6000 series GPU, I spec'd my build with a used 4060 for power efficiency, encoding, and nVidia specific features. The 4060 hovers around 100w under load stock alongside an eco mode enabled 65w Ryzen 7 7700 in my HTPC that's situated in a small TV stand enclosure. My goal was to get under 200w of power--in the ballpark of the PS5/Series X. Is there merit to higher-end parts being reigned in for "lower-end" use cases? With news of the 600w RTX 5090, I guess I'm more interested in seeing what that new architecture will do for efficiency per frame in games rather than the raw, unfettered, ocean-boiling compute (which I appreciate, but only during the colder months of the year!) Thanks for the continued #content lads!

Maybe Rich is getting an RTX 5000 or DLSS 4 preview. Odds are no (basically zero) but I can dream! Still skeptical of the CES rumor, odd place to debut a new generation. But at this point 2024 launch seems hard to squeeze in unless AIBs are keeping a super tight lid on things.
