Content

Well hello there! My last task for the day is to deliver you my notes from this morning's #content meeting. Lots going on, plenty we can talk about, a few things we can't, but you should be seeing some nice exclusives this week I can't wait to roll out - so let's plough on into the update!

Tom is on point to deliver our F1 24 PS5 Pro preview this week and as a bit of a teaser you can see a comparison of the two quality modes above. RT reflections 'on track' and including environment reflections too. In fact, the quality mode has all the PC's RT features apart from RT shadows. Kudos to Codemasters here. The code I saw isn't final, but is shaping up nicely. Tom is also lined up to do Call of Duty and a sponsored project which we'll disclose in due course - it's a while off.

John is still working on embargoed content which you will see a bit later this week. It's a good one, I promise! He's also keen at looking at Sonic x Shadow Generations, but despite the game coming out tomorrow, we're still chasing review code.

Alex will be taking point on our PC coverage of Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Not much more to share beyond that, but we've got big hopes for this game.

Oliver is looking to finally find the time to complete his look at Bazzite on the ROG Ally and is currently the chosen one for our Dragon Age console coverage.

Rich (ie me) is working with Will to bring about a return to CPU video reviews on the channel and if some bug-squashing comes to pass, you'll get to see the full rollout of our automated benchmark suite. This is a very, very big deal for us and while there's still work to do on visualisations, our approach to automation is very innovative. Right now, Illusion is doing more work on tools for us and is beginning GPU benchmark automation. The idea is we start rebenching GPUs in December for the expected RTX onslaught in January. Oh - and it's back to Lunar Lake after the work with Will is complete.

Will has been instrumental in rebuilding our database of CPU benchmarks. It's been a bit of trial, what with various revamps on the AMD side, but it's happening and looking good. When and if I have the time (and indeed my 4090 returned!) I'm looking to run that suite at Will's settings on the AMD 4800S desktop kit, which should be an interesting piece of #content in itself.

Lots going on then, as I said. No sign of PS5 Pro yet, but without divulging anything, I've now spent a fair amount of time with the dev kit on my various developer visits, so I do have a grasp on the logistics of working with it in terms of DF content. More on that as and when, I know it sounds a bit enigmatic.

As usual, please let me know what topics/titles you think we should be looking at. Resources are tight, we won't be able to cover everything and the PS5 Pro onslaught is terrifying but I'm always interested in ideas! Have a great week!

It sounds like Sega plans to honor the traditional levels of quality expected from a Shadow game...

When your database of CPU benchmarks is complete, any chance of a 'state of play' video that shows how all current CPUs shape up, as a baseline ahead of new releases? I'm sure your main goal is to use this info in future reviews, but the benchmark info should be fascinating in and of itself.

Life is Strange Double Exposure could be a good title to look at, Deck Nine are using Unreal Engine 5 with exceptional work to facial animations and the use of Lumen and Nanite. Perhaps not a usual title to cover, but the team put in some insane work into the game.

Will we get any updated Star Citizen Coverage? I hope that there will be discussion covering CitizenCon on DF direct at least!

Hard to believe we're still talking about Star Citizen development updates the first content preview was 13 years ago and the tech roadmap for that "game" rivals some games entire trilogy of releases and has yet to be upgraded to Beta development. Simply absurd that we still have no concrete release date even the single player Squadron 42 which was finished "in entirety" at the start of 2023 won't release til 2026

Ooh Rich being enigmatic. I reckon you’ve seen Ps5 Pro “boost mode”, spill it Rich spill it!!!!

Could you take a look A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead? Another UE5 game that utilizes Lumen. I was surprised that it ran quite well except the usual stutter of course.
