Hi everyone, trying to get ahead of the rush now with this week's update - due to various levels of activity it's been a touch late the last few weeks, but there are no mad dashes across the country today for capture opportunities. The #content meeting happened as per the norm and this is what happened.

Alex is working on Dragon Age: The Veilguard. While the embargo is 3pm UK time today, we need a bit of extra time so we're looking to publish tomorrow. This will be PC-led, obviously, with some PS5 comparisons and optimised settings. Since I've timed this post to publish in line with the embargo, I can say that the PC version of this game is excellent. After that, Red Dead Redemption on PC. We'll be looking to quickly discuss Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered in DF Direct.

Tom will be working on Call of Duty Black Ops 6, since we've only just received the game. He'll also be taking a swift look at Mario and Luigi: Brothership.

John is tackling Sonic x Shadow Generations, which is a somewhat complicated affair. He'll be taking a look at all current gen platforms, including Switch. After that, embargoed content.

Oliver is handling our console review for Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which will be landing later this week - but definitely by launch day on Thursday. He's also on assignment this week on some #content we're looking to run a few weeks from now.

Rich (ie me) has DF Clips to set up, admin to carry out, but beyond that, I'm working on more wondrous stuff behind the scenes with illusion and when the time is right, I'll be looking at the 9800X3D. I've received some very cool PC gear I'll try to find time to cover and that does include the Intel Lunar Lake laptop. I've also got a Strix Point mini-PC which looks very interesting.

Will continues the CPU benchmarking onslaught in preparation for our 9800X3D review and continues to help out in DF video to Eurogamer article translations.

We're also starting to plan how we wish to handle PS5 Pro - we talked about that at the end of the DF Direct Weekly #186. We'd like to do an unboxing video, a mini-Direct on the FAQs we've seen about the machine (I think we'll put together a call for questions about that soon), we're prioritising which games to test both in terms of patches and Game Boost but I'm certainly very interested in what you might want to see in a hardware review.

Anything else we should be looking at? It's looking very tight right now in terms of resources, but do let us know of anything that's caught your eye we should be looking at.

Personally, I would like to see the following games on the Pro: Jedi Survivor, Alan Wake 2, Avatar, Lords of the Fallen, Baldur's Gate III, Cyberpunk, Demon's Souls, Dragon Age The Veilguard, The Crew Motorfest, GT7 PSVR2, Horizon games, Hitman, No Man's Sky, Lies of P, Elden Ring.

Highly intrigued about the power profile of the PS5 Pro. How much does it use in idle, playing a PS4 game, base PS5 game and PS5 Pro enhanced game are very interesting, especially compared to the 6nm PS5 Slim

I’m so happy Tom is gonna look into Mario and Luigi: Brothership I already have it on preorder but I’m curious to see the technical analysis!

I did ask this in the past Direct, but will you guys cover the Monster Hunter Wilds Beta on October 31st - November 3rd? I have a feeling it will be as important and impactful as the Elden Ring network test. It also has cross play on PC, PS5, and Xbox, so 4 of you could play on all the consoles at once and play together for a cool console comparison video.

Interersted in PS5 Pro coverage as well (and DA Veilguard) Really wish Housemarque (and Climax) would update Returnal for Pro/PC

vr2 on pro for sure. since nothing was said about it from sony, my expectations are in check but still hoping for some improvements there

Maybe do the unboxing live in YT (unlisted) or Discord, get feedback and questions in realtime before editing into proper video?

I would Love for you all to revisit Devil May Cry 5, since it was a foreshadowing of things to come with unlocked frames etc and see how it compares as well.

Question Generated By JensenGPT

I would love to see some CPU-limited games on PS5 Pro, like Baldur's Gate 3. The system doesn't really upgrade the CPU cores themselves, but it does have faster memory which in theory should give some extra CPU performance.

stutterylucy

Oh that would be interesting!

Space marine 2, elden ring, dragon's dogma 2, so basically all the games that hade some kind of performance issues on regular ps5 and yes boulders gate just to se on town area if there is any improvement maby 40fps thx.

The original launch version of the PS4 Pro sounded like a plane taking off. Any impressions of PS5 Pro on heat / sound / power draw etc would be great

Also as we know from DLSS, frame rates improve in every game whether it’s a GPU bound game or CPU, so the minimal increase to CPU clocks was the most economical upgrade. Also PSSR is very early days and has yet to have a game built with it in mind, nor has it really had much “real world” testing and player feedback to help train/improve it. I imagine just like DLSS has majorly improved from 3.0 to 3.5 and even more so from 1 to 2 to 3, that the improvements PSSR makes at launch will be even greater in the years to come. This will give PlayStation a massive advantage over Xbox next gen simply because they will have all this real scenario testing/training.

I'd be really interested to know the team's views on whether the lack of availability (due to scalping) of the PS5 blu-ray drive add-on, might be hurting the pre-orders for PS5 Pro... Personally speaking, following the shock of the £699 price point, I've come around to the idea, but I have a lot of discs (also for games in my backlog) so a blu-ray drive is a must and I refuse to pay over-the odds for one. So no order until I can get at regular MSRP.

Blackthorn0001

With PS5 Pro games utilising PSSR running on dedicated AI hardware, what sort of benefit could we anticipate from the release of resources previously utilised by FSR (or a studios own upscaler solution)? I don’t recall seeing this aspect mentioned elsewhere where wrt PS5 Pro.
