Hello there. First things first. On Friday, Tom and Rich (ie me) are heading off to the Excel in London to visit the Switch 2 event. It's unclear what #content there will be but the chances are that it'll be the same stuff people looked at last week. So... is there anything in particular you'd like us to look at? We will be packing OG and SWOLED Switch hardware.

The Friday event means we'll need to work Direct filming around it, hence the early Call For Questions. We'll be discussing the teased Asus/Xbox handheld, (potentially) the AC Shadows Pro patch and the leaked $380/$430 price points for the 8GB/16GB RTX 5060 Ti. Also, Alex has some thoughts on the Metal Eden demo!

So, the panel this week will be myself, Oliver and Alex with (perhaps) an appearance from Tom. Let the Switch 2 suggestions and Supporter Q+A questions commence!

What do you think viability will be like for Switch 2 ports of games which require raytracing? We're starting to see a few games require the technology now, most notably Indiana Jones and Doom: The Dark Ages. Do you think Switch 2 ports of these games are feasibly achievable? Or are they in the realm of the "Impossible Ports"?

samred

NSO GameCube scanline analysis, please! (I suspect camera filming angle limits will be a factor, but a RT4K owner can dream.)

Peter Karadimas

Hello gents! What price tier do you think the futureMicrosoft handhelds should be aiming for? Should it be a console competitor to the switch 2 at around $500, or something closer to the current high end handheld market closer to $800 or higher?

Andreas Wright

Hi DF crew, First time questioner, just thinking about the release for Switch 2 console being at a quite strange time of the year. Do you think there will be a killer game / system seller released in time for the holiday period? If so what would that game be? Something unannounced maybe?

Rip Van Winkle

Greetings, gents! In Alex's TLOUPII PC review, he mentioned that system-level Vsync can cause longer loading times. This is due to the in-game Vsync being disabled during loading sequences, whereas setting Vsync globally does not disable Vsync in such a scenario. Does this mean the advice of using "Gsync/VRR ON + Vsync ON globally" is no longer ideal? I’ve always preferred using Vsync in the Nvidia Control Panel to avoid potential issues with specific game implementations. Furthermore, DLSS Frame Generation requires Vsync to be ON globally to function with Vsync. I don't know what to do anymore. How can we identify which games might require disabling global Vsync to avoid problems like longer loading screens? Thanks as always.

will cross gen switch be a thing?

Hey chaps!!!! What do you think is the likelihood of seeing some RT effects in the rumored 30fps mode in cyberpunk for switch 2?

Zero

Hey Gents! Regarding the Switch 2 hands on, one thing I've found to be absent from all the coverage is the simple description of what the system is made of! The OG Switch was very toy-like in its construction, with a plastic body and screen, versus the OLED model having a glass screen, metal body and kickstand. So what's the story? Does it feel $450 premium when in the hand?

1040STF

There's been many talks about the Switch 2 paid patches for Switch 1 games but there's also some free ones. What do you wish the most from those? Increase of resolution? In framerates? Or both? Nintendo's presentation showcased Mario's sprite from Super Mario Wonder to explain what 120fps is... so maybe the Mario games could jump to 120fps? That would be awesome. On a side note, I'm regretting immensely that the Switch 2 isn't capable of 4K/120fps but only 4K/60. I wasn't expecting AAA games to use 4K/120 of course, but smaller games, indie games, or even some Switch 1 patched games would immensely benefit from that.
Why do you think Nintendo didn't made that combo available? It would only be for the docked experience so obviously we can put the battery aspect out of the equation.

Thomas Martinez

Howdy DF team! You have discussed the issues with true generational leaps in performance in handhelds. It’s true that the switch 2 in handheld mode is more powerful than the og switch but it seems to come at a cost of more power draw on the battery. The beefier deck and other handheld pcs have gone for a more chonkier solution to afford better cooling solutions or bigger batteries. Do you all think we’ve come close to a theoretical limit already? Are we at a point where we just can’t add more horsepower to a handheld without having to compromise on weight or battery life? Apart of quality of life improvements such as screen and build quality and software implementation, where can handhelds really go?

lord.frosty

Hey DF team! I look forward to your impressions of switch 2 screen, especially compared to the switch OLED!

Macky Dee

Can we get a frame rate graph on the Switch 2 ‘chat’ video screens? I’m guessing 3-5 frames per second :) (Kudos to Nintendo for being honest in their marketing materials at least!)

Woody Chang

Hello DF Direct crew, As the Switch was region free, I was able to import cheaper physical versions of the equivalent version in my country. So... 1. Will out of region Switch 1 games be able to qualify for the Switch 2 upgrade or do you thjnk it will be region locked? 2. Given what we heard about the Japan only switch 2, do you think other regions will also have these to kinds of local versions of Switch 2 to lower the impact the current international economic issues? Thanks!

Deadeyes

Alex, I've seen reports that some of the performance issues in TLOUP2 are stemming from ReBar on Nvidia GPUs. Have you messed with turning it off? Supposedly it can double framerates in some circumstances with the 5090.

Deadeyes

Already confirmed with Metroid Prime 4 and a few other games

Kimba096

Hello gentlemen! After the Nintendo Direct, the leaked CPU frequencies for the Switch 2 still don’t make sense! With the release so close, how is it possible we still don’t have confirmation of the 'real' CPU, GPU or memory frequencies, along with the bespoke profiles avaliable for developers? If I remember correctly, we had all the details about the original Switch three months before release thanks to you guys...Is Nintendo being extra meticulous this time around?

zephyr

Hi DF team, really interested to hear your impressions on the Switch 2 screen compared to the original and OLED. It seems clear now that the Switch 2 isn't using a mini-LED screen but does it look like it's still up to the task to provide a good HDR experience?

bjorktribe

Is it more comfortable for my gnarled dad-man hands or will they still fall asleep in 10 minutes?

LittleMac

How do the joy-cons feel on the switch 2? I have larger hands and the switch was unplayable for me even with aftermarket grips. Only the pro controller felt comfortable.

Avi

With the ever increasing tariffs on Chinese imports in to the US, and Nintendos new tiered pricing between digital and physical games - do you think this could be the next nail in the coffin for physical games if other publishers follow suit?

Matt_Rant

What are the specs on the camera attachment? Does it support 120fps like the PS3 Camera? Does it include some kind of depth sensor (eg LIDAR, TOF)? does it support HDR (for sunny living room windows behind the user, or bright TV in a dark room)? On DLSS4 (and DLAA applied post 4X raw scale to reach 4K), is it possible they have a separately-trained version where quantizing within the model can be more aggressive (for higher runtime performance at lower memory usage) because it has a much different/narrower set of source content?

Mr Bespoke

Hi DF! Would John and/or Ollie be willing to do a deep dive with a GameCube comparison between the Swich 2 and original hardware? Be interesting to see what performance hiccups it will have in terms of graphics and framerate. Thanks and keep up the legendary content!

Nolasco

Evening my DF Compadres!!! With the Switch 2 around the corner do you know if it will be capable of enhancing the Switch 1 experience automatically without any kind of patch much like the Ps5 was able to do? Thanks you for your time and hard work 👍🏼

Taggen86

How good/bad Is the switch 2 lcd? Did you see any kind of local dimming? What about peak brightness?

Taggen86

Any new options in the switch 2 OS? VRR toggle? Hdr calibration?

jimjam707

Quick Switch 2 question - has it been confirmed how handheld mode will handle (un-upgraded) Switch 1 games yet? Best case would likely be running the game in its docked mode to get a 1080p image out to match the screen. Worst case, a naff upscaling filter?

HarryB

Are there any Switch 1 games we can expect to see big gains on in terms of DRS? I think Xenoblade Chronicles 2&3 both use DRS but I wonder if they are capped and we’ll still end up with far lower res than we might had more games had no upper limit.

Taggen86

Any clues why you got the invite to the event so late?

zurce

The newest FPSLocker 2.2.0 beta on a modded switch showcased that running at full clocks switch 1 can do tons of games even at 120 fps , is it time for Nintendo to unlock some of that potential ? Maybe a dock mode performance mode with higher clocks as a way for developers to target cross platform releases or maybe Dock mode only games like they did with the 2d only games in the later part of the 3ds life

Candescence

How does the Pro Controller 2 feel? And since it has back buttons, it reminds me that the Xbox controllers haven't added any new functionality since the Xbox 360, which also means XInput has severely lagged behind advances in controller tech, which Valve have had to make up for with Steam Input in order for games to support features like additional buttons, gyro controls and haptic feedback. Should users and developers be pressuring Microsoft to modernize XInput or do we need a brand new, preferably open source input API to replace it?

zurce

Nintendo seem to begin to embrace a lot of industry standards like HDR, High Refresh Gaming , 4K and more but seem to still cap the console at 4k60 Is the new dock still not hdmi 2.1 compliant or is it just Nintendo not wanting to give us false hope like that 8k badge on the ps5 ?

zurce

Btw my nickname reads like source (without the o), thank you for taking a read to my questions as a long term fan of the show I appreciate the technical q&a only a channel like yours is able to do with their most weirdly technical obsessed fans like us Keep up the good work DF crew !

ProNerdy

How does 1440p perform with VRR? Does it work well or will it have issues like the PS5 did for the first part of its launch?

Kris Graney

Is the rear of the case made of metal to help with heat dissipation and transfer in the dock with its fan?

DudleyTheGentleman

Hi DF gentlemen, what are your thoughts on Nvidia open sourcing their PhysX and Flow GPU source code? Though it'll likely be a ton of work to repair the compatibility issue on 5000 series cards, is there potential for PhysX effects to actually become more performant on GPUs due to potential optimization and better GPU utilization? Lastly, do you think we'll see PhysX and Flow effects being implemented in games or mods that didn't already support these features now?

Full House's John SteamOS

While you have the console to hand, please see if there are any OG Switch games you can test out, eg check if Link's Awakening has the 30fps slowdown, or build some enormous bases in No Man Sky. Anything you know that is throttled on the OG Switch by read speed, memory bandwidth, etc.

Cameron

Hey All, longtime YouTube lurker new Patreon subscriber, hope to get your thoughts on how Nintendo's implementation of the NVidia DLSS, Tensor and Raytracing hardware may factor into future handhelds like Steam Deck 2. AMD seems to be taking their own approach to Nvidia's tech with RDNA 4, and while their upcoming APUs seem to be holding at RDNA 3.5, I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on if this could be the jump in performance Valve is waiting for, and if we may see this implemented in mobile SoCs in the future. As a follow on question, is this something that would bring benefits to handheld PCs where games aren't made for a single piece of target hardware?

Wez OOSH! (WOOSH)

Hi df team! Random one, but do you know why a lot of people switch the console from 120hz output to 60gz when playing 60hz content? I thought leaving it at 120hz would be the best option unless there's positives I'm unaware of. Thanks for the content!

Tim de Man

Is the high-framerate push a way for Nintendo to use & show off the increased power of the new hardware without having to enormously increase the scale of their asset production pipeline? Mario Kart and Donkey Kong are great looking games, but compared to premier PS4 titles they don't seem to contain as much asset detail - let alone comparing it to PS5. I don't see this as a negative per se - these Nintendo titles are super readable, whereas games with a more detailed visual style developed to wow can be hard to read and noisy to look at. Just an interesting way perhaps for Nintendo to not have to enormously staff up and/or outsource to keep their steady cadence of releases over the Switch 2's life.

DaJaCo (Dan)

Happy Half Fortnight Lads! I have 2 Switch 2 burning questions this week; firstly - how will most Switch 2 games handle the availabilty of 40fps modes in handheld mode but apparent lack of 4k40 when docked.. will games be forced to hit 4k60 when docked - or have nintendo miscommunicated this? Is the dock HDMI 2.1 or 2.0? Secondly, i've noticed that chinese websites are selling coloured replacement side strips for the joy-cons, which suggests they can be clipped out / removed.. I wonder why this is.. perhaps just to remove a sharp seam edge for mouse mode? (Bet nobody else noticed this): https://a.aliexpress.com/_EwVJmBw

tod weitzel

Has political economic pressure extended cross generation support even longer than planned? Maybe the Switch 1 gets a stay of execution?

Skyrimfest 26 FPS Edition

On a similar note - any hope for VRR when docked if there's no HDMI 2.1. Also presumably no 1440p support or G-Sync support?

DaJaCo (Dan)

One more thing.. it seems as though Sony HAS "PSSRed on their chips", and it's a jolly good thing! (judging from AC Shadows 40fps mode on Pro with the PSSR toggle on). Could the PSSR tide be beginning to turn? Will a rising PSSR tide float all boats? Maybe even not-yet-buoyant PS6 ships?

Full House's John SteamOS

So, GCN games run at 900p, but couldn't they be upscaled with DLSS from there? I understand that they may not have motion vectors to use, but don't the early versions of DLSS work entirely off of the framebuffer? eg, could they use DLSS 1.5 or thereabouts to get at least 1440p from 900p frames?

LosCV29

Hey, fellas! Greatly enjoy your work! I travel to South America a few times a year. It always puts into stark contrast how expensive console gaming is... And by extension, how inaccessible it is worldwide and what a first world privalege it really is. Console gaming isn't movies, or TV, or music. The barrier to entry is simply too high for the masses to ever adopt like those more popular art forms. My question... Why were so many people shocked and appalled by Doug Bowser stating their console was expensive? Do gamers not realize how expensive their hobby is?

shedi1982

Greetings gents!! Long time watcher here! With ac shadows pushing the ps5 pro with rt reflections, shadows, and rtgi now implementing PSSR to allow for the same in balanced mode do you think that with each update to PSSR or a version of fsr 4 that sony can push things further like a version of path tracing or frame gen as well or will that be to much thanks in advance

Austin

I would love to see what kind of improvements we can expect without a patch/upgrade. Could the Switch 2 power through those hiccups from Link's Awakening as Joe said or maybe something like a heavily furnished/decorated Animal Crossing island would be a good test. They have already stated that we can expect faster load times in general but I am wondering if we can expect any in game improvements beyond that.

Alex’sRayTracedBottom

Question for Oliver. A.I. has been the hot topic for at least 4 year now. It’s everywhere. Every app, every website, every random corner of the internet seems to have its own chatbot at the ready. So… why is my Google Home speaker still so dumb? I’ll ask it something ChatGPT could answer in seconds, and my Google Mini just shrugs and says, “I don’t know, but here’s a random internet search result.” I would have thought smart speakers would have been step 1 on humanities A.I. journey.

Alex’sRayTracedBottom

Now that you have presumably seen the edge-lit screen on the Switch 2, does the "HDR" badge feel as meaningless as the 8K logo on the PS5 box? After seeing it in action, would you recommend waiting for the OLED model, or is this LCD really THAT good?

AfreemTheDream

Greetings, Foundrymen! What are your thoughts on the return-on-dollar pricing structure of Mario Kart World? Doesn't that open a big can of worms in which we are arbitrarily debating a games inherent value? If I go to the theater, the film could be incredible or it could suck, it could be 90 minutes long or run 3 hours, but the ticket price is the same all the way across the spectrum. Will game prices be time-based? "You get 100 hours of gameplay so the game will cost 100 dollars!" Or perhaps quality based? "We know it's only 8 hours long, but it's an amazing game! 80 dollars!". Thoughts?

Alan

Hi guys, so the prices of the Switch 2 games! I think Nintendo left it so late to announce the Switch 2 price because they ultimately decided to subsidize (make less profit on) the console with higher game prices? Back in the day, some SNES and Mega Drive games were circa £70, for example, Street Fighter 2 and Virtua Racer (that's £140 now). A 4K Blu-ray costs £25-£30 for a two-hour movie. How many hours will people put into MK9?

Someguyperson

For whenever you go hands-on with the Switch 2, could you check to see if the back of the unit is a big metal panel that effectively acts as a big heatsink? I would expect that to be the case given the fan in the dock and the "U" shaped kickstand, but I haven't seen that before confirmed anywhere.

Someguyperson

Another nitpicky question regarding the Switch 2 hardware is the orientation of the polarizer. If you have polarized sunglasses on, can you see the screen at full brightness? Is there color banding if you view the screen through a polarized lens from various orientations/rotations of the lens?

Someguyperson

It would probably be a good idea to take a FLIR camera with you to the Switch 2 event if you have one. You could probably take footage while in line to look at how the heat spreads out on the unit itself and how the heat flows out while the unit is docked. It's almost like x-ray vision for an event like this.

Someguyperson

Do you guys have something like a DROK USB Power Meter to measure power draw of the Switch 2? If the unit is at 100% battery, hooking it up to a power meter while not docked would give you a decent estimate of the power draw while in portable mode. You could also maybe put it in-line with the power going into the system itself, which would provide some interesting results. You would probably want to use the console docked before using it in portable mode to get the battery topped off as much as possible before testing that out.

Interested in finding out how cross gen releases will work at retail. Will Switch 1 and 2 editions sit side by side on a shelf, or a single release. Will the physical copy be a Switch 1 version with a download necessary for a Switch 2 release. Or are the cartridges backwards compatible such that the Switch 2 game could be on the cart, that also works in a Switch 1 at lower speeds. Assume not on the later, although that might be the best outcome. Also keen to know whether they’ve looked to make Bluetooth audio better compared to the Switch 1, such as looking to adopt codecs with lower latency.

(Don’t be a) Richard

It’s been confirmed that Nintendo isnt using Hall effect joysticks. Noting that there are types of sticks out there, are they able to discuss what changes were made when redesigning them to ensure they’re more resilient over time.

(Don’t be a) Richard

Can you compare black levels on an OG, OLED and the new LCD. Also how is image response across all three? How dim can the display go, and how bright?

(Don’t be a) Richard

How easy is it to open the cartridge slot for people without long fingernails. It became noticeably more difficult in the OLED switch. Also how does the kickstand feel

RAVE_DAM0S

Hola panel of extraordinary gentleman, I have a question about Xbox's unique hardware features. In the Xbox One, Microsoft introduced ESRAM, which was incredibly fast, but developers never fully utilized it. With the Xbox Series X/S, Microsoft developed Sampler Feedback Streaming, yet there hasn't been much discussion about its adoption. Considering Microsoft's hybrid PC-console strategy, do you think the company will rely less-and-less on bespoke hardware features? And why do you think adoption has been so poor over generations? Fine day gentlemen

L p

Long time viewer, first time questioner here! I have a Switch Lite, and even though the pixel density of the display is 267 PPI (much higher than my Steam Deck OLED's 204 PPI) the lack of antialiasing on Nintendo first-party titles is very noticeable in Mario Kart, Mario Odyssey, BotW etc with pixel popping and stair stepping on edges and specular highlights. Despite the 1080p display, the huge increase in screen size means the Switch 2 has a PPI of 279, or just 4.5% more than the Lite - will this mean aliasing is just as noticeable on titles like MKW which run in native res with no AA? Or does rendering the same type of image with 2x the pixel density (1080p from 720p) mean smaller pixels are used to make up railings/long edges (and other elements that can exhibit pixel crawl) and so it should be less of an issue? Thanks!

(Don’t be a) Richard

Care to taste a cartridge and let us know if they’re still fragrant?

Ryan Luker

The people of the foundry know the important questions.

Ryan Luker

I think I read on Reddit somewhere, that they are going with the switch 1 cartridge + upgrade code for the "switch 2 edition" versions. This makes sense from a "cost" standpoint to Nintendo, as switch 2 cartridges are probably not cheap, and ideally you want to reserve them for the new more expensive switch 2 games.

Ryan Luker

I can only imagine how much gear Rich and Tom will try to sneak past security...

Ryan Luker

I would probably be leaning towards more of the "automobile" model, where there is a ton of variation and pricing to go with it.

Ryan Luker

Seems odd to spend money on a display feature that provides little to no value (if the HDR looks like trash on the LCD)... Unless this was some sort of existing screen that is being repurposed for Nintendo's needs (I find that hard to believe, as economies of scale kick in if you are bulk buying a ~100 million supply item contract and a custom build would be more beneficial).

(Don’t be a) Richard

Regarding your response Ryan, I’ve seen that too. In which case, I’d be curious why the Switch 1 cartridge wouldn’t double as one of the new Game-Key cartridges where there’s no Switch 2 game content on the cart, but it can be used to show ownership of the game and download the title without needing a paper key. May be that this is the approach, which means you still need to insert the cartridge but no activation keys are needed to redeem the Switch 2 upgrade. Would seem odd to me to include a paper key but when they’re rolling out physical cards that act as game-keys.

Ryan Luker

I think DF mentioned the external GSync support question and were going to test it out once they have a launch model.

Ryan Luker

> Nintendo to not have to enormously staff up and/or outsource to keep their steady cadence of releases over the Switch 2's life. Yeah, this sounds like the real reason, as other studios have seen ballooning developer cost chasing the graphical dragon around for the last 5 years.

Ryan Luker

The best info I saw, was this developer post talking about how switch 1 games run in an odd half emulator half hardware kinda way. https://www.nintendo.com/en-ca/whatsnew/ask-the-developer-vol-16-nintendo-switch-2-part-4/ > Dohta: If we tried to use technology like software emulators (22), we’d have to run Switch 2 at full capacity, but that would mean the battery wouldn't last so long, so we did something that’s somewhere in between a software emulator and hardware compatibility. > This is getting a bit technical, but the process of converting game data for Switch to run on Switch 2 is performed on a real-time basis as the data is read in. Not sure about this "real time" feature, but they do promise more stability for games with unlocked framerates (these are not the paid "upgrades" as far as I can tell).

Ryan Luker

I think Oliver mentioned they are a steady 8fps in his Generational Mario Kart video. It might be good to also understand if game chat effects your game in any way? (EG: does the resolution and framerate drop while you are "sharing")

Ryan Luker

Maybe tiny glade or that ray tracing Lego game from a while back?

VeganBurg

Hey ya’ll, I’ve been taken aback by the response to the increased pricing for games lately. I remember buying GTA San Andreas for PS2 day 1 and feeling like paying $50 was a steal for a game with so much content, it felt like a $100 game. With games exponentially more expensive to make since then I’ve always felt like we have been underpaying for games. The rise of DLC, Season Pass, in-game purchases in games felt like attempts for developers to increase the price of games without increasing the price. Switch 2 game prices feel like a course correction (for AAA game specifically) but will this cause a backlash especially from the gamers who will only buy a game during Steam sales at less than a quarter of the original price. Sorry for the question length

Taggen86

Might be worth to discuss switch 2 backward comp in greather depth. Seems to use som kind of translation layer just like steam deck. MVG had a really good video about this recently.

Taggen86

Do you expect devs to use the switch 2 RT cores in games requiring RT like star wars outlaws?

DaJaCo (Dan)

On a portable they also have to consider power consumption, and hall effect or even optical solutions would consume more power than a traditional potentiometer. I suspect they have instead worked with their supplier to improve the lifespan of the potentiometer mechanism.

DaJaCo (Dan)

I'm guessing that it will be very similar to the Switch OLED - which as far as I can tell is a diecast magnesium alloy chassis. I think what will be more critical is the internal heatsink size.. because it seems like the dock pulls additional airflow through the chassis (based on various related patents). You are however right that the chassis itself will help dissipate heat if it is indeed magnesium alloy or similar. Pure Mag is a better thermal conductor than aluminium which is also quite good.. however typically the alloying metals to facilitate good castings will decrease the thermal conductivity.. but of course still wayyy better than a plastic shell.

DaJaCo (Dan)

Agree, it will be a custom co-development with Sharp most likely. Nintendo even brought Micro SD Express back from the dead (after smartphone makers greed tried to kill them). There is of course the argument that even if the inbuilt screen's HDR is a bit pants, it needs to support it so that the games on TV's look their best - as well as on future OLED, QDEL or Micro LED (i.e. better) versions of the inbuilt display. If it's not in most of the games out of the gate.. that sort of kills it for future displays. Hopefully it's not "pants".. but I think the "pants for now" argument has legs on this basis.

DaJaCo (Dan)

Yeah, I'm just hoping that enough people in the industry have hands on now that information might be beginning to spread. I've heard it uses the Realtek RTD2175N-CG - which would mean at a hardware level it can do HDMI 2.1 .. but is it enabled in firmware and software.. is it accessible to developers for 40fps modes when docked.. all clear as mud right now.

Yellow Ledbetter

Seeing lots of indignation (rightful or manufactured) regarding the Switch 2 pricing decisions, but not much discussion about what has led to this; to me it is clear that Nintendo now see themselves in a very dominant position as the other consoles struggle with conveying unique selling points and a cohesive identity for their platforms. Do you see the trend reversing with GTA VI or will we be looking back at the Liveservice wager as the Xbox One moment for Playstation?

Jiden

Good day, gents. Long time listener, first time Patreon-er, I'm curious how the Switch 2 editions of original Switch games are going to be implemented, especially for owners of original Switch cartridges. Will the system still utilize data off of those original cartridges and the games patched to take advantage of the new hardware? Or is the original Switch cartridge merely going to serve as a Game-Key Card at that point and the player will be downloading a completely different build? Just thinking ahead about storage space limitations, especially if those Switch 2 editions are each going to be a full game download. Cheers.

Spodlude

Hello! Could the 90 day pause on tariffs cause Nintendo to rush to divert European intended switch 2 stock to the states thus causing us. stock issues?

Spodlude

Hello again, I don’t understand switch 2 edition carts. Do they work on both systems? Are they red on one side and black on the other? Are they fast, slow or both? Do they have two different flavours?

Ryan Luker

The youth are too young to understand cassette tape A/B sides but that would have been a cool usage of a cart!

Ryan Luker

Yeahhh haven't seen a good answer for this, best i can find is that it might be a combo cart that is a game card key (for the Switch 2 upgrade) and has the Switch 1 game data. This was from a Nintendo Developer asks post where they mentioned the Switch 2 Edition wont have a game code inside for the upgrade. (I can only assume this means it uses game card key functionality instead)

Ryan Luker

A useful thought experiment is the Japan edition of Switch 2 is ~330 USD. Nintendo hates taking a loss on hardware so I can only assume this Yen pricing is close to the cost of hardware and elsewhere in the world is the margin they are getting (~20-30% margin, at console release, is standard for Nintendo I think?). Does it suck for the rest of the world? Yes but that is reality of business. Nintendo values the Japanese home market most of all and that is apart of their long term company vision.

Cameron

Most of these events seem to be very guided. While they might be able to hold it while playing , I doubt they'll be allowed to do whatever they want.

CCshoreditch

Hi guys 👋 Switch 2 first impressions on it's capabilities seem to be really impressive for the hardware, do you think Sony and Microsoft should consider using Nvidia technology in future consoles? Keep up the excellent work, DF weekly is my favourite tech podcast 🥰

AMH

Hello Gents, I was wondering if the switch 2 is as downclocked as the original switch? After overclocking my original switch using the latest tools which push beyond the Nintendo allowed ones I was surprised how capable that little machine is. I was able to play tears of the kingdom handheld profile at 60 fps. What could an overlocked Switch 2 achieve?

Lutz Klingbeil

Hi guys, do you think third parties will release switch 2 editions games either as physical or digital or will we see free updates on e.g. doom eternal (which would need an update)

Kevin Gelinas

Hey DF Crew! Not sure if you’ve made your way over to the Switch 2 subreddit lately (I wouldn’t) but as of late they have been questioning/challenging DF’s reports that Switch 2 is more in line with PS4 rather than PS5. Would you mind explaining again what you meant by that and why it’s not a bad thing or a dig at the new system?

M

Gentlemen, one thing that has struck me in all these complaints about Switch 2 pricing is that no one ever seems to be happy. When Nintendo has gone the low power behind the times not supporting the latest technology route, everyone complains about how they're holding gaming back. When they choose to be on the forefront of cutting edge technologies like DLSS, RT, 120hz VRR panels, etc and come out with a price to match, everyone complains that it's too expensive. Seems they can't win for trying, but I for one am glad they put in all this great tech that can now be made standard for use throughout the industry. Just sharing some annoyed musings, cheers!

Pomps

I think the complaints are mainly coming from the software pricing
