Hello there - a somewhat different #content meeting this week as we need to start thinking about how to handle Switch 2 when it arrives on June 5th. Pre-orders are in place, we're expecting hardware on launch day - and thus far, we've not heard anything from Nintendo but if the stories online are true about review unit availability, it wouldn't make much difference anyway.

The plan, then, is straightforward: there's a lot of comparison work to be done. Switch 2 upgrades for existing Switch 1 titles. Switch 1 games that don't run particularly well on the system where we'd hope to see improvements running under back compat on Switch 2. Specific third-party Switch 2 launches with existing current-gen and last-gen versions. We will be slowing down (not ceasing by any means) video production from now to bank a lot of these assets so we will be fully good to go when the hardware arrives.

This way, we aim to get completed Switch 2 #content out of the door as quickly as possible. In terms of reviewing the hardware itself, owing to the lack of units before launch, we will be addressing this as we did with PS5 Pro - with multiple staff members testing different things then coming together to record a DF Direct-style review.

Onto this week!

Rich (ie me) got out of the #content meeting this morning to find an Asus RTX 5060 Prime sitting behind the gate in my back garden. This was provided by Asus and Nvidia. We don't have the driver though - this is expecting in just under five hours. I will be putting together a review for you. At this point I'm still waiting for answers about puzzling PC Latency metrics from Nvidia which have held back a huge RTX 5060 Ti review.

John is taking some time off while in Japan, but fancies looking at Tokyo Extreme Racer when he's not taking time off.

Alex is looking at Painkiller RTX and/or the new Portal RTX upgrade with neural radiance cache and DLSS 4 - whichever is the more interesting!

Tom has been working on the STALKER Trilogy next-gen upgrades. It'll go on early access to premium tiers today and goes public tomorrow. Beyond that, well... a big bunch of Cyberpunk 2077 footage from CDPR's press portal has just appeared.

Oliver is taking point on our preparations for Switch 2 but has also got together a bunch of Hogwarts Legacy Switch 2 comparisons, which we'll be talking about in a video that quote-unquote drops this week.

Will is going to be handling the Eurogamer version of the RTX 5060 review, producing a text version of John's mega id Tech 8 interview and continuing his own work, which starts today at 3pm with a review of a range of Hall Effect controllers.

As usual, do keep us updated on anything you feel we should be covering - but that's all I have for you right now. Enjoy your week!

Sounds like a great plan for Switch 2 coverage. Counting down the days now for my pre-order to arrive!

If you're checking out poorly-performimg Switch 1 titles on Switch 2, please be sure to include Xenoblade 2 in there, especially handheld mode. That one was notoriously bad in handheld mode.

I’m very excited for the switch 2 but I think there are three games I really wonder what they do with. I think the biggest one is Pokémon Scarlet and Violet because those games ran horribly and are supposedly getting an upgrade. There is also The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom and Link’s Awakening that performed truly horribly and don’t have any mention of the frame rate but hopefully it should be resolved to not have that aggressive lurching from 30 to 60. Oh, and here is that link (pun intended) if you have missed it. https://www.nintendo.com/en-gb/Hardware/Nintendo-Switch-2/Nintendo-Switch-2-Free-game-updates-2786093.html?srsltid=AfmBOooDqLteeekKsrQSxfRPXfzLvOl57GeJDJkKWyANYRtfptmHECtY

It's a pity the Switch 2 isn't launching with any 'must have' games. I'm usually one to jump at any new hardware launches but I've yet to see anything that makes me want to rush out and buy this.

Very excited for Switch 2...... Ive had an unopened copy of Bayonetta 3 ready to go for years.... could this finally be playable at a stable frame rate!?!? :)

A DF direct style review really makes sense considering that it will enable you to review the console in depth relatively soon after relase. really looking forward to it! also sounds like we will get some switch 2 coverage (based on press assets) for dlss titles like cyberpunk and hogwarts already this week? Nice!

Same here.

Have you guys been shaken down by Nvidia for your graphs not comparing multi-frame gen framerates vs. other cards without multi-frame gen like Steve from Gamers Nexus has? Nvidia clearly stepped out of line threatening him and I'm wondering if Nvidia threatened you guys for anything as well.

It goes without saying that the world needs Rich to do an unboxing video as he did with the PS5 Pro.

Could we please get a video on The Donkey Kong Land Games? Those to me are just crazy

Something I think would be interesting to see once the Switch 2 arrives, is if it’s possible to get a VRR signal using any other readily available USB-C to HDMI adapter. With rumours stating lack of VRR is likely a limitation of the docks chipset, perhaps a third party adapter could still work which could be a win for some titles. Could come undone if they’ve disabled VRR at the OS level for external output however, or if third party adapters outright are unsupported.

My 8 year old niece seems excited about some sort of new Nintendo console, but I'd be interested in seeing some coverage of the new Farming Simulator game for the Mega Drive, how does the PS5 "Pro" stack up against a machine that routinely delivered a clean 60fps at native res. The "Pro" doesn't have a dedicated FM synthesiser so outside of sound effects I expect the audio to be lacking similar to the SNES, but that doesn't mean we should write it off entirely, the SNES had several good games.
