Hello there and welcome to the latest Digital Foundry #content update. Our weekly editorial meeting kicked off as usual at 9:30am and here's what was discussed and what we'll be up to this week. It may be a slightly shorter update as we have a lot of stuff from last week carrying over to this week, but let's crack on eh?

Rich (ie me) looks to have the whole week available to work before family commitments kick in again mid next week, so after my admin tasks are done, I'll be continuing with the Cyberpunk 2077 Switch 2 vs Steam Deck head-to-head. This includes a detailed settings comparison, a shot of which I've included above (for the record, both Switch docked quality and handheld performance mode use an equivalent to PC's medium for crowd density).

John is awaiting his next project, but he's "bagsied" Tony Hawk Pro-Skater 3+4 along with Donkey Kong Bananza.

Tom has just delivered our Street Fighter 6 Switch 2 review which is currenly on early access to premium tiers. That'll go public tomorrow. Beyond that, he's moving across to the GameCube emulator analysis.

Oliver continues to power through Switch 2 #content. He'll be directing his gaze towards Hogwarts Legacy next, but is also interested in looking at No Man's Sky on Switch 2 after the next patch drops. With that in mind, do let us know in the comments box 'below' if you're an advanced NMS player who can help out with multiplayer in order to stress test the Switch 2 version.

Alex, having delivered his Doom tech retrospective, is taking a well earned vacation this week and he'll be back on Monday.

Will continues to deliver our written work on Eurogamer, along with his own original #content, which for now includes a bunch of Switch 2 accessory reviews.

That's where we are for now. As usual, we'll check out your feedback and project suggestions from the comments box but for now, have a great week!

For NMS, if you want to stress test it you can just go to the space anomaly and scroll through bases in the portal there and just find a very complex one. Then you can use the cross-progression functionality to test it on different platforms. Cross progression has been fixed as of the latest patch from what I can tell.

If John does any to-camera sections in his Tony Hawk review, they should be filmed from ground-level with a ridiculous fisheye lens

Monster Hunter Wilds just got a new update last night that massively improves performance. I did some benchmarking yesterday and the older version had a frametime spike every 0.25 seconds which increased frame times by 5-10 ms for each spike. It felt bad and clearly something was wrong with how they were calculating something off the world tick, but now that issue seems to have been resolved. Frame times actually look fairly good, so maybe the game will actually scale well with better GPUs? Before, there were hard CPU limits on how high the game scales, but now the game might actually play as it should on high-end hardware. The game is still starved a bit while using 8 GB of RAM, but the memory usage guide is more accurate. The textures below high all look awful without saving that much in memory. Lowering the resolution doesn't save much memory either. It looks like the devs will need to come up with something else to bump up performance with 8 GB GPUs as you can't really improve that with settings alone. It's kind of crazy how much more RAM FSR frame generation takes - it's almost pointless on an 8 GB card. Enabling frame-gen by default only adds questions as most people have an 8 GB card, yet the game is deliberately loading the GPU up with a RAM heavy feature, leading to a bad experience ultimately, even if the average FPS numbers might look better.

Supposedly Mario rabbids kingdom battle was running with double buffer vsync and was always locked at 30, but just automatically runs at 60 now on switch 2. Would be curious to see that confirmed by y'all. Rather interesting situation.

Tom please explain in your video why we can't have DLSS upscaling in GameCube games, notwithstanding lack of vector data (but that hasn't stopped DLSS before).

I wonder if Alex will be taking his Switch 2 with him on vacation… one can only dream

I'd love to see a proper comparison between the Switch 2 editions of Zelda BOTW and TOTK and the original games on Switch 1. I can understand you wanting to distance yourselves from the controversial 'ad' but a proper video - what the original video should have been - would be much appreciated.

Oh boy this week’s direct is going to be depressing…
