Hi there and welcome to the 28th news update of the year! Here's what's cooking within Digital Foundry at the moment in the wake of our Monday morning #content meeting.

John is going to be taking point on our coverage of Donkey Kong Bananza, but before that, he's working on a smaller video that's a bit of a mystery project we don't want to spoil... it's unexpected and fun! Also: Tony Hawk Pro-Skater 3+4 - John's keen on covering this one.

A bleary-eyed Alex is back from vacation and by now should be suitably rested to begin work on his next project, which is going to be a look at the Mario Kart 64 decompilation project.

Tom is polishing up work on his GameCube emulation for Switch 2 video, which includes all the performance testing and latency analysis you've been asking for. Beyond that, he's heading off to Hyrule to look at the Switch 2 Editions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and indeed Tears of the Kingdom.

Oliver is working on a few projects - the first you'll see is a multi-game look at Steam Deck vs Switch 2. He's also keen on reviewing the impressive Switch 2 port of No Man's Sky. Oh - and fantastic news - we've been in contact with Apple PR and we're now fully equipped for covering Mac titles with the latest kit. Oliver wants to kick off with a review of the latest and most powerful Mac Studio.

Will continues to handle our Eurogamer output and has the privilege of dealing with Prime Day deals this week, which I understand is actually more than one day - I guess that's like Game Pass and Summer Game Feste having more than one game in them?

Rich (ie me) has finished the Cyberpunk 2077 Switch 2 vs Steam Deck video which is available on early access to premium tier backers now. It'll go public tomorrow.

In terms of what I tackle next, I wrote off doing anything on the PS4 Cyberpunk 2077 benchmark tests, but in light of the comments from Virtuos Games about their assessments of Switch 2 GPU and CPU capabilities, should I reconsider? I also have now received a Strix Halo mini-PC, which is an AMD APU I have a strong interest in reviewing. I'm open to this and other ideas, time permitting!

Anyway, that's where we are at for now - have a great week!

I haven't been this excited for a DF week in ages! MK64 was our uni game - we had a whole ranking system and protocols for challenging each other. I think I genuinely spent more time playing MK64 than in lectures, oops! I loved THPS4, but I'm gutted they've removed the open world elements of it, so I'm interested in this to see if it's worth me getting it or just emulating the PS2 version. I'm currently interested in getting either a Steamdeck or a Switch 2. I have no handheld currently, and a good steam library. I didn't have a Switch 1, but I'm only interested in BOTW and Mario Odyssey, and don't like the idea of buying games for Nintendo when I could get them through steam instead. It really depends how big an improvement in performance the Switch 2 is over the Steamdeck I think. Keep up the good work chaps :)

I’m very happy to hear that Apple seems to be on board with testing gaming on their higher end hardware. Obviously cyberpunk is going to be really interesting when it launches on Mac since it’s now available on last generation consoles all of the current generation consoles including the switch 2 and all three PC operating systems. I’m really interested in the mini PC stuff since it does seem like it might be a future for budget gaming. Basically a console running a PC operating system. On the Apple thing they also sell some really compelling mini PCs both the Mac mini and I guess technically the Mac studio are mini PCs. Truly amazing the level of performance they’ve been able to pack into those small boxes.

Comparing Cyberpunk on PS4 would be ideal to gauge how much better the Switch 2's CPU is. It would be quite interesting... Oh, and can’t wait to see Oliver’s comparisons with the Steam Deck! The one I’m most interested in is Street Fighter 6...on Switch 2 handheld mode it has quite a few graphical cuts and lower resolution

Good week ahead and also nice to Apple reaching back out. Curious to see how Apple tech for gaming is going
