The DF Retro Super Show returns, with John Linneman joined - as is his wont - by Audi Sorlie, Marc "Try4ce" Duddleson and Coury Carlson, tackling the latest retro news before diving into the next big discussion: retro graphics and visual effects that wowed in their day and still look excellent today.

Note: there are a couple of aspects to the video we may be tweaking ever-so-slightly in time for the public release, so you may wish to hold off until Sunday for download/archiving. And while we're on the subject of notes, remember that as Retro Tier supporters, don't forget to check out our Xbox 360 retro unboxing and John's recent OG Unreal episode!

I love the news segment at the start, if you're wavering on that. So far they've been eclectic items, which is great. I really appreciated the Absolum recommendation and that's not even strictly retro. Cheers exclamation point.

No Oxford comma between "Duddleson" and "and"? You lot make me SICK! Seriously though, these podcasts are awesome and I'm so happy you're doing them. Good seeing you lovely fellows! (Bonus points for Coury's DeathNote mug!)

John, I remember a game from 2001 that had similar polygon based "raytraced" shadows like the ones in Doom3, but that came 3 years before it, Severance: Blade of Darkness, or just Blade of darkness in some regions. A Spanish studio, a medieval fantasy slasher game like pre-dark souls formula, very difficult, with raytraced lighting, blood that dynamically pooled and dripped, fire that spread on neighbouring wood objects , physics destruction of barrels and pots and also gore gibbing , decapitations and arms would fly off and become physics entities, sliced arms could be used as a weapon... it was a very heavy game to run... but crazy tech for 2001. And it has been updated to run in modern systems a couple of years ago. Check it out. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1710170/Blade_of_Darkness/

This is a wonderful show. One suggestion: can you break it out into sections on YouTube? This was a great topic this week but I typically don’t have time to watch a 2 hour video. If I had a way to scrub the timeline and find the games I’m most interested in listening about, it’d be better (similar to how you do DF Direct Weekly).
