Update: We didn't end up taping Direct Q+A #280 today, so we're likely doing it tomorrow. Got any questions you'd like to pose to the team?

Original Post: Hi everyone, how are you? This week's DF Direct is going to be a little different. John, Oliver and I will be taping a DLSS 5 review tomorrow and then moving onto Direct #280 - but most of the content will be made up of the already-taped-but-not-released Q+A show. We will be adding some stuff though - primarily our thoughts on State of Play. It'll be a good show though: John's comments on Grand Theft Auto 6 are well worth your time!

Why not a fully brand new Direct? Well, whichever way you slice it, DLSS 5 is still a delicate subject and we're putting time and care into the review.

That said, please feel free to post your topic suggestions and pose your questions for DF Direct Q+A! And if you have any State of Play comments/questions, do add them in. Otherwise you're weapons-free for input into the next Q+A show!

And as there is now an actual DLSS 5 game with properly authored content and that John has seen it, played it and talked to the developers, all of us are fully informed to take your questions on the tech.

Deadline for State of Play questions is Friday 8am BST, Q+A Show Monday 8am BST. Thanks!

Less a question, but any plans to take a look at Star Wars Zero Company?

Jonathan Hamilton

Is it okay to bring up a merchandise issue? I received my DF pint glass and am very happy except for one small thing: It arrived empty!

Lexxington87

How do the team feel after the original DLSS5 reaction? The technology looks pretty much the same but this time the internet hasn’t melted down…what gives?

Skyrimfest 26 FPS Edition

What would you want to see from a DLSS 5 version 2 and do you think there is a ceiling with what seems to be a screen space finishing pass can offer? Do you think a version 2 might be improved by passing game engine data more relevant to its task rather than it relying on information designed to help with upscaling?

CynthiaSizer

Good evening, I have a general suggestion that could be useful for the many new viewers you hopefully gain every week: How about (at some point) producing a 'tutorial' video that demonstrates DF's terminology and categories? I've been an avid listener and viewer for some time now, yet I must admit I still sometimes don't understand or see everything you discuss. One basic example, what does "image quality" really mean? Or "breakup" or "stutter", and so on. Thank you for considering :)

AfreemTheDream

Greetings, adorably all-Digital Foundry! I just watched the State of Play and I (still) have the same question: WHERE THE HELL IS NAUGHTY DOG? Cheers!

Skyrimfest 26 FPS Edition

How do you think AMD should respond to DLSS 5? Do they need their own version, or should they approach the next leap forward in graphics quality in a different way? Is there a different way? Brute forcing it through selling more silicon felt unrealistic even before AI hoovered it all up.

Alexander Zyryanov

What are the chances of DLSS 5 officially supporting 40-series?

Brian Sullivan

LOL at delicate subject. Maybe put out two reviews, one good one bad... so people can watch the opinion they want.

MittenFacedLass

Really? I feel like the meltdown has been considerable, and it looks pretty bad injected into just random stuff.

MittenFacedLass

If you haven't watched them, Alex's tech focus videos are worth a watch! Not quite what you're asking for, but do sort of cover some aspects of basics.

Ed

Will there be a GTA VII, and if so what console(s) will it launch on?

Dan

Sony’s recent interview with the Wall Street Journal suggests that they are moving away from traditional hardware manufacturing, and are moving more towards software and content creation instead. Given that they have now outsourced production of their television sets to a company in China, could they eventually do the same with the PlayStation as well, and adopt a 3DO-type approach – especially given that most of the chips within in it are now simple off-the-shelf PC components, with no disc drive for Sony to manufacture, and Sony have already admitted that the PS6 onwards will no longer be sold at a financial loss? My prediction is that the PS6 will be the final Sony-produced machine, and the PS7 will either be made exclusively by third-parties such as Asus, or will simply become a downloadable Steam-type app for Windows PCs – especially if the backlash over the lack of physical discs continues!

Colin Robinson

Greetings, esteemed gentlemen. I have a question for John. John, if you were a Mega Man boss named Linne Man, what weapon would you use to destroy the meddling Blue Bomber? Perhaps a Kusoge Cannon to pelt him with garbage video games? Perhaps your fellow panelists could brainstorm with you to conceive of the ultimate weapon! I look forward to hearing your answer. I hope you all have a mega day!

wildwildwesty

Hi guys. Can you clear up what’s happening with DLSS 5 and 40 series? We have, so I’ve heard, a DLL leak that functions with 40 series, yet Nvidia have announced the feature as 50 series exclusive. Is there a good technical reason the last generation of RTX cannot use the new DLSS rendering capabilities (meaning the leaked DLL with 40 series is actually compromised), or, is this just a consumer unfriendly move to sell more cards?

Yotsuya

What do you think is the story behind Capcom's rather conservative use of their own RE Engine in Onimusha? Having treated us twice this year with beautiful hair stand rendering and spectacular path tracing, Onimusha is visually a huge step backwards. Those flatly lit interiors really sting. We know RE Engine scales well, so why not offer higher end visuals, even if only on PC?

Lexxington87

The faces are bad, but I mean other media has been putting ‘normal’ videos up about it and not calling for the downfall of DF this time like before

Lexxington87

They just finished filming the live action for Intergalactic meaning it’s 5 years away

Hi digital foundary with Epic launcher getting an official Linux release, how likely will fortnite be made proton compatible?

Leftisthominid

Palpatine: Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Jensen the Leather-Clad? Anakin: No. Palpatine: I thought not. It's not a story Team Red would tell you. It's a Tensor legend. Darth Jensen was a Dark Lord of the Green Team, so powerful and so wise he could use the Neural Network to influence the raw pixels to create… light that was never rendered. Anakin: He could actually create lighting… from nothing? Palpatine: He had such a knowledge of the Deep Learning that he could keep the worlds he cared about… from ever looking rendered. Subsurface scattering in skin no one authored. Hair that answered to a sun that was never placed. Anakin: He could save Starfield? Palpatine: DLSS is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be… unnatural. Anakin: What happened to him? Palpatine: He became so powerful… the only thing he was afraid of was the model inventing something the artist never asked for, which eventually, of course, it did. Unfortunately, he taught it to imagine so well that it stopped waiting to be told. Ironic. He could generate reality, but he spent the rest of his days building sliders to hold it back. Anakin: Is it possible to learn this power? Palpatine: Not from a Radeon. Not on a 40-series either.

Leftisthominid

When are we getting the Rich, Will, Tom episode?

Hey chaps, having looked at the Crimson Desert DLC trailer, I'm blown away again. I'm sure a fair bit of this was content that was at least in planning stages before release. But it's crazy how adept they are at integrating wholly new mechanics at speed. They have to be one of the most agile and efficient devs out there. I saw someone point out that if there were a dev of the year award, they would be a frontrunner for sure. I wholeheartedly agree. What do you reckon?

Alan

Hi guys, The irony of Rockstar/Sony releasing a physical GTA 6 controller for a digital-only game! Am I the only one who prefers the look of GTA 5 PC Ultra in Oliver's video? The visuals feel more like a video game compared to the softer GTA 6 look. Tiny wall textures might be impressive, but when you're speeding past in a car, you'll never notice them.

Alan

Hi guys Apparently, at Gamescom, third-party developers were avoiding Sony due to the ending of physical gaming, thus affecting marketing and third-party support. Surely it’s the same for Xbox with their recent layoffs. Developers can’t be happy in the PC space either, with Nvidia and the pivot to AI causing price rises. Is there any truth to this? The irony is that the most hyped and biggest game ever has seemingly killed physical gaming with the announcement that it is digital-only. Sony was in cahoots with Rockstar, given the timing of both announcing a digital-only approach going forward.

Alan

Hi guys, The State of Play was okay—Metro 2039 and Maneater 2 were the highlights for me, and more content for GT7 was welcome. The live chat was entertaining, though, with comments like "We Want Destiny 3," "D3!," and "No Disc No Buy" making up more than 90% of the messages! This could end up being their downfall. Digital-only was always going to arrive, but it's a generation too early, IMO.

SL0MAR

DF Aces, how in the world did it take me 2 years to find out about UEVR? I recently found out Ace Combat 7 could run in VR on PC this way. Then I found out it can run on most UE 4 and 5 games! How about it? What'll be your preferred way to play? Ace Combat 8 in VR or flat panel?

RAVE_DAM0S

Hola Digital Foundrymen, If DLSS 5 is optional, why the fuss? I bucket this "dilemma" into the same bin as chromatic aboration, lens flare, film gain, and "fake" frames. As long as there's an option to turn the feature off by those turned-off by them, the sqwacking about it moot. What am I missing? Genuinely curious, and wish Alex were here you chime in. Best

Teasing Hilarity

Hi Gents! Ethical and performance considerations aside, while DLSS 5 can be used sparingly and thus retain the original look of a game’s presentation (keeping the emphasis on the artists in the dev team), when dialled up it still has the capacity to substantially alter the appearance of the original presentation. I’m wondering could this potential lead to lower image quality when DLSS 5 is not applied for titles with DLSS 5 as dev teams lean on it ever more heavily? I.e. in the cross generation world we currently live in, could DLSS 5 games look noticeably poorer than current non-DLSS 5 titles on non-DLSS 5 hardware? Thanks and best wishes!

Ildar Nurislamov

Hi guys! My question is not about graphics tech, but about how modern games are made. I think you are an important platform to raise such a question, which a lot of people who actually make games listen to. I'm 42 yo and will become a father this December. I have 15–60m per day of free time to play PS5. But I actually don't play at all. Because so few games are actually suitable for 15m sessions of pure enjoyment. Mostly due to so-called "RPG elements" (character progression systems) - skill trees, gear upgrades, crafting. It feels like I have to invest time in all of that - otherwise, I feel like I'm missing something or will actually be underpowered. Playing games like SH2 Remake was a pure joy - because I could quickly submerge into its beautiful atmosphere even for just 20m. RE9 felt this way too. But most games these days are just not for me anymore. What I suggest: I don't suggest that devs must change games for grown-ups. Probably many people have a lot of time and enjoy these progression systems. But if games have difficulty levels where the easiest level changes gameplay dramatically, I ask devs to add a "Progression System" setting with options like Auto (Curated), Optimal, Fully Manual. And with Auto mode, I want my character to just get new skills based on the devs' choices, without requiring me to invest my time and thought into it. I just want to play the game - enjoy its atmosphere and gameplay mechanics - and not waste my time in the depths of UI screens and progression systems. Thank you!

Idan Shahar

I was wondering where the QA video was and entered patreon just for that lol.

Salutations! I was enjoying John’s Onimusha coverage and surprised to see Capcom finally offering a capped frame rate on a Switch 2 port, it looks excellent! But I’ll likely pick it up on another platform where it’s fully on disc. That had me thinking though about the WiiU of all things. Games were primarily playable direct from disc of course, but Nintendo allowed Xenoblade Chronicles X to feature optional data installs. Do you believe Nintendo has a policy that forbids game card games from requiring some or all of their data be installed to internal memory? It would be great if everyone was willing to put in the work CDPR put into their Cyberpunk port but even that game was targeting last gen. It’s not realistic to expect developers to re-author their data streaming needs for cross-platform release to the game card’s low speeds. Do you think a policy change would result in more true physical releases? Some games would still exceed the file size, and you’d still have Square Enix releasing game key cards like DQ3 with no excuse. Curious to hear your thoughts!

Asterdahl

Hey DF crew! Microsoft’s disc to digital program seems like the best of a tragic situation but I’ve been wondering about two things that I’m curious if you have any information on? 1) Once a disc has had its digital license claimed, does subsequent insertion into an internet connected Xbox on another account automatically claim the license? They say it “continues to work as a physical disc,” but if I claim the key and then hand the disc to my partner can they keep playing the physical disc without taking their Xbox offline? Their example is selling the game on and the buyer claiming the key, but that example doesn’t include whether claiming the key is optional. 2) If the claim is being tracked and automatically transferred, I’m concerned whether claiming the digital rights enables any sort of system level DRM that could even persist offline. For example digital games need to periodically connect to check your right to use them. Once you’ve claimed a digital key, will they enact a similar system to ensure you aren’t using the disc indefinitely while the digital rights are used elsewhere? As always thanks for the wonderful content!

DaJaCo (Dan)

Happy Half-Fortnight LADS!! As far as I'm aware, we have a new Digital Foundry special case study on our hands... Stellar Blade on Switch 2 is going to use (drum roll).. not only DLSS.. BUT FSR 3.1 Frame Generation from 30fps to 60fps!! The much forsaken combination!! Anecdotally, not all of the hands-on experiences have been damning.. and I'm wondering if they have heavily offset some of the inputs and ramped up the polling rate to make it feel less lamentably latent! ? What's going on lads!?

DaJaCo (Dan)

By then Skynet will have learnt at a geometric rate. Civilisation will have collapsed, and we'll be living in a real life GTA. No need for a simulation!

TheAdam

Guten Tag DF Crew, With the latest update to REDengine, I had the crazy thought that CD Projekt Red might not actually be discontinuing the development of its own graphics engine. Could UE5 simply be used as a bridging technology, allowing CDPR to buy time and knowledge for a new REDengine? One shouldn't forget the business aspect either, keeping in mind that having your own engine saves high licensing fees, especially given the popularity of CDPR games. Maybe the REDengine upgrade for The Witcher 3 is a first sign of this? As always, thanks a lot, and wishing good health to Alex.

DaJaCo (Dan)

All a matter of perspective... half full, half empty.. I'd bet it was completely full - of air. Not only that, but 100% digital air, from the foundry shop floor itself...

DaJaCo (Dan)

Perhaps all outlets should release two and average the scores. - "Right-side-of-Bed" REVIEW - "Wrong-side-of-Bed" REVIEW Average Score = **

DaJaCo (Dan)

It's been officially confirmed by Nvidia, but it'll come after the 50 series version has been "fully tuned"..

DaJaCo (Dan)

I think that the burgundy van of blur-gundy will be largely remedied on the PS5 PRO. Fingers crossed for 40fps at some point too...

DaJaCo (Dan)

Will the "Burgundy Van of Blur-gundy" be "cured" on PS5 PRO.. and has this van single handedly caused the PS5 PRO sell-out situation.. ? (P.S. in Scottish-English, "Gundy" is toffee or candy.. so "blur-gundy" actually makes sense in Rockstar North's native tongue.. just saying!!)

DaJaCo (Dan)

I just don't think it was ever worth the PR pain to kill it off - they should have just let it die organically... left the disc drive as an option on all future consoles.. and just keep reducing production volumes of physical in-line with demand.. a natural organic death.

Eric Benoit

Hello DF, I suppose i had John in mind when writing this question but does anyone think DLSS5 would be great for emulation like PCSX2 or Xemu? Ive seen some short videos already that are preliminary and quite rough but very promising. Seems like it might be a great way to revisit older games and ignore the Darkness that has befallen on modern console gaming.

Ghu Ribun

Salutations Foundrymen. It's pretty grim for video game hardware currently. What about indulging into a bit of fantasy, shall we? China seems willing to make everything by itself. So they can maybe soon do a console. Entirely possible to be honest. Imagine now that you're employed as advisors on how to make the best next generation console possible: what would you tell them? PS: Patreon's site is so slow!

Ghu Ribun

They said that in the course of six months they dramatically optimized DLSS 5. And they suggested that it will continue at the same rate. So my guess is that they will eventually make it available for 40 series. Exciting.

Ghu Ribun

Official release video has majority of the comments demanding the tech coming to 40 series. Public U-turn in reputation.

Ghu Ribun

Are they using AI for development?

Ghu Ribun

Haven't thought of this. Exciting!

Ghu Ribun

People raging about AI through Nvidia's DLSS.

RAVE_DAM0S

Plz read this aloud during the show 🤣

A very bespoke greeting to the DF fellas. Dragons Dogma 2 looks like it actually managed a substantive performance improvement with their latest patch. Just hopin to get your thoughts!

DavidGraham

is NVIDIA ever going to expose NVIDIA app controls for DLSS 5 to force it on DLSS games?

what can I say exclamation point

Given Jensen Huang's pivot to AI and the backlash against DLSS 5 for altering artistic intent with its aggressive 'AI filter,' do you think we've hit the peak of AI upscaling hype? And with AMD securing the next-gen PlayStation and Xbox SoCs, forcing them to innovate on efficiency-per-watt, could AMD realistically take the gaming GPU lead within 5 years—not in brute flagship power, but in value, honest rasterization, and consumer trust?

Asterdahl

With the confirmation that FF7 Revelation’s PS5 version will ship without a data disc like the previous two entries, has John heard anything about this? I know he said that many publishers were frustrated with Sony’s sudden announcement but this seems extremely surprising. Hamaguchi is on the record recently saying he likes physical media and wants to offer physical Final Fantasy experiences going forward. After all the work releasing the previous two entries across 2 discs to fumble so close to the finish line on what will likely be the last ever Final Fantasy on a PlayStation disc this feels deeply depressing. With the previous two being Sony exclusives at the time, do you think Square Enix’s reasoning is console parity with Xbox and an unwillingness to print the Xbox version on 4 low capacity discs like Baldur’s Gate?

gartenriese

Hi there, I currently have a 3080 and a 5900X, I am planning to upgrade to a 6080, because I finally want to play with path tracing on my 4k screen. You recently showed that even a 9800X3D can bottleneck, so I am wondering if my old 5900X is still good enough. I really want to avoid upgrading my whole system because that would probably be twice as expensive as just upgrading to a 6080. Thoughts?

Eric Benoit

Have you thought about having 3 tiered membership where the lowest tier can ask a question in less than 10 words, the middle in 15 words, and ultimate 20 words? Your patreon supporters are very loyal and locked in. Seems like an incredible idea that would alienate absolutely nobody.

DrianCel

What an earth is Sony doing? Why do they seem so hell bent on rubbishing their brand image and consumer goodwill?

DrianCel

Have you ever considered doing an academic video series that is educational. Not replicating a full educational course but just fairly short and punchy (~10-20 minute videos) that go through some core concepts of graphics rendering/engineering.

Succulent Chinese Meal

Why do so few games implement the Ultra Quaility preset for the upscaling? Sometimes i don't need to reduce scaling to 66% (Quality) to achieve the FPS i want. Why not implement an DLSS/FSR DRS instead of fixed scaling ratios?

Quetzal_NZ

Ahoyhoy gents. I was playing the Onimusha demo on the Switch 2 this week, and my LG TV said it was running in 1440p 120Hz. I was a bit surprised at this, with the game being 30-40 FPS uncapped. However, if this is correct, then it made me think: Does a non-locked ~35 FPS game, without VRR, have less noticeable judder when the frame cadence is 8.3 ms at 120 Hz, rather than the 16.6 ms at 60 Hz? E.g, frame interval step will generally be 33.3 <> 25 ms, not 33.3 <> 16.6 ms. Is this appreciably more smooth to the eyes?

Joey Giardino

Greetings from Central Florida, Gents! The SSR implementation on bodies of water here is mediocre at best, but the Governor announced we’re migrating to Unreal Engine 5 soon, so expect Hardware Lumen (and Nanite for lush green vegetation) near your favorite theme park soon. (But Frame Gen from a 30 FPS target - Game Science is handling the Florida Port…) Question: What’s to stop Nintendo from implementing a system-wide, perfectly frame-paced 30 and/or 40 FPS cap, overriding baffling decisions made by developers like From Software with Elden Ring or Capcom with seemingly every title that isn’t Onimusha? Surely, if Valve can do it, *any* platform holder like Nintendo, Sony, and Xbox could theoretically do the same, offering a low-level, API-driven frame rate cap, even if said cap introduces trade offs, like when Rich demonstrated why From Software likely decided against using the PS4’s system-level half-rate vsync option due to a latency penalty. I hear you, Oliver, this fundamentally goes against “what God intended” for Console-like simplicity, but should more educated, DF-diehard-like Users *not* have an “emergency button” of sorts available to “fix” bad console ports which would have otherwise been incredible if the FPS Targets had been different? I couldn’t be more proud to be a new DF Supporter after nearly a decade of binge-watching Digital Foundry, and hope the team has a great week ahead!

Someguyperson

I'm really not sold on DLSS 5 after your review of it. If you are an "AI native organization", why wouldn't you just ask Claude to build better screen space effects that would mimic the same things DLSS provides at a far lower processing cost? Why wouldn't you just use AI coding tools to improve the engine itself as opposed to the ham-fisted approach that DLSS 5 is taking?

Snorlax cat

How do you keep care of your mental and physical health with so many releases coming your way? Even though you do what you love sometimes it can get hard. Love from a cat dubh

Marcus

Hiya Foundrymen! Watching the DF Direct discussion of DLSS 5, I kept thinking about Sony’s PS5 Pro enhancement features for older games. Obviously the technologies are very different, but conceptually there seems to be a similar idea: adding a relatively lightweight new image-processing stage rather than rebuilding the underlying renderer. Could older games actually become one of the most compelling long-term uses for DLSS 5? A huge proportion already have motion vectors and temporal rendering, particularly anything with an existing DLSS integration. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth feels like a great example. It has fantastic art but also some obvious rendering shortcomings. The Shader Injector Oliver previously showed can substantially improve that, but it has required a lot of work. On future hardware, DLSS 5 could potentially offer a much more drop-in visual upgrade, while spending spare GPU performance on neural rendering rather than increasingly expensive supersampling. There’s already some precedent here: upgraded PSSR can override the original implementation in supported games, while NVIDIA and AMD can similarly substitute newer models into existing DLSS and FSR integrations. Do you think this could become one of DLSS 5’s biggest long-term strengths: not replacing path tracing, but providing a relatively low-effort visual upgrade for older or less technically ambitious renderers, while supplementing path tracing where it exists? I hope you have a great week!

Scully

Ahoy digital fellows, perhaps more of a df retro type thing but I would love to know how the team prefers to play games. I’m itching to learn more about John’s setup for example and when he chooses to deploy his various displays and with what devices. I’ve been having a blast lately plugging all my retro controllers into my Steam Deck and docking the Deck into my pc crt. Tons of fun and got me wondering how the team plays.

Karvox

Bonjour DF crew, in the wake of the launch of DLSS 5 I'm curious where AMD goes from here. Given FSR is 'behind' DLSS does the panel think AMD will move to mimic Nvidia or continue on their own path? Thinking out loud, the frame time cost and delicate hand required to implement likely means few games will implement natively without Nvidia support. Then there is consoles (Nintendo aside) being AMD units as well. Will this feature realistically see significant adoption for developers if it requires that much potential oversight and resourcing? Merci!

MGsubbie

If you guys weren't doing this job, what kind of job do you think you'd be doing?

DaJaCo (Dan)

Apparently Killzone is out of the kill-zone and into the birth-zone, to be revived, revitalised and born again! I would guess it'll be a PS6 launch title / tech demo.. what do you think we'll see?

ZephyrXero

How likely is it we could see a cheaper $200-300 console with lower end hardware come in and become a major player in the industry? Like how the Nex Playground outsold the major consoles for a while last year

ZephyrXero

From what I've heard we're not going to see the 6000 series until late next year at the earliest, maybe 2028 or 2029 even. Consumer cards are low on Nvidia's priority list these days and they're rumored to be doing a Super refresh of the 5000 cards later this year or sometime early next year first.

jose

Hello gents! Just curious - even though Rockstar is a wholly owned subsidiary, they are owned and funded by Take Two (publicly traded) whose stock moves a lot with GTA VI news. Does this change John’s views on publicly traded companies?

MattGPT

Hello gents. Seeing your views on the most recent State of Play and the lack of new games due to Sony's failed detour into live service games, would Sony be better to put resources into a handful of AA and A games to get some new games out quicker than waiting for the normal AAA development cycle? Or could they use existing engines and assets to push out some smaller projects very quickly, like how Miles Morales reused the Spiderman assets? Would another DLC for Horizon ornsomething TLoU using all the assets built for the cancelled multiplayer be worth while? With that kind of approach could they get games or DLC out the door in a good state in 12-18 months? Cheers!

regawdless

Hello Gents! With the RAMageddon forcing more and more users to get older and slower RAM for their builds, shouldn't DF take that into consideration when doing PC performance analysis? Fast DDR5 RAM can deliver 20% higher 1% lows in certain games like Spider-Man 2 and improve maximum fps as well. Some games are more sensitive to RAM speeds than others. With so much complexity going on in the PC space, what are your plans to clone healthy Alex two times? Cheers

Nathan

What are your thoughts on the effects that divergent model/training choices will have when inevitably AMD and Intel develop a competing solution to DLSS 5? How different do the yassifications have to be between implementations before it is a problem for developers? Is Nvidia going to keep old DLSS5 models around forever or do we need to worry about today's slayyy queen glow up turning low key chopped with the next driver update? What does this mean for game preservation?

DaJaCo (Dan)

IPA is overhopped for shipping to india, you want a nice rich yorkshire bitter, a mild, or a porter. I'd highly recommend a little known beer called Redbrook Premium by Riverhead Brewery in Marsden.. or Abbeydale Absolution if you prefer a paler beer.. or Theakstons Best Bitter.. or Old Peculiar (nothing else like the later)... or "nectar of the gods" - 1000 years in the making.. Green King's Abbot Ale..

digitalfoundry

So the good news is that our main test system for mainstream is DDR4-based!

digitalfoundry

Switch 2 isn't using VRR so it's just reporting the signal type coming out of the console, not actual refresh rate.

DaJaCo (Dan)

Nvidia has confirmed that it will come to the 40 series when ready.

DaJaCo (Dan)

I think the only scenario in which this would happen.. would be if they get absolutely trounced by Helix / Xbox, since this is essentially the model being described. If on the other hand, the PS6 delivers games that look very similar on Helix, but for much less money than the top end machine - then the console advantage will have been demonstrated more thoroughly than ever before (since it's never been up against a proper PC-Hybrid before). Personally I think the PS6 will deliver Helix class visuals for less hardware cost. So the question is whether people will cough up for the added flexibility.. there's also still the question of whether microsoft will find a way to support discs in order to steal good will from Sony.. That could swing things quite a bit, however unlikely it seems. Another scenario would be a few generations ahead of now, in which diminishing returns are so minimal, that the hardware almost becomes irrelevant. Also these comments don't currently add up with the leaks.. we're going to have more sony consoles than we've had in a long time.. a PS6 and a PSP .. probably with a unified architecture / games that play across the platforms.

wildwildwesty

Yup, when I wrote the question I don't believe they had stated this. I think the leak and feedback forced the issue.
