Early Access: Genshin Impact 1.51 Patch (Patreon)

Hi everyone - so this is a tricky one. YouTube really likes its 'upload slots' and uploading more than one video per day can play havoc with audience numbers, so this video is ready to go but it's best for us to deploy it tomorrow. That said, there's no reason our supporters cannot watch it today.

Yes, it's one of those unfortunate situations where we post a video and a patch comes out of nowhere and nullifies the results - we had reports that v1.51 shows a big improvement in performance and so it is for both PS4 Pro and PS5. Surprisingly so even to the point where it's even a topic of discussion in the next DF Direct Weekly.

Genshin Impact and its insane high frequency detail and animation is also highlighting that in terms of video download quality, the HEVC encoder is not producing the best results and that for the best experience, h.264 is the way forward. We're investigating workflow on this right now and will likely make adjustments going forward (thanks to DF Supporters for the help here!) but in the meantime, enjoy the video. It goes live for everyone tomorrow: http://digitalfoundry.net/2021-05-06-genshin-impact-patch-151-ps5ps4-pro-re-test-a-revolution-for-performance
