Hey all you retro supporters! We will be doing our first Retro specific Q&A this week. We noticed there are always a lot of retro questions in the Weekly post, but as we can only pack in so much in 90 minutes or so, we are doing a retro exclusive mailbag! John and Audi will be on hand to answer as many of your questions as possible, so have at it!

There has been a big uptick in recent years when it comes to interest in retro gaming. I think one of the greatest things to come from this renewed interest is the new hardware and software that's geared toward games preservation and getting the best quality out of retro games. With that in mind, what are some things you're most excited about in the near and distant future?

Dear John and Audi, with the expansion of DF retro, will you venture into the retro arcade scene and cover Jamma / JVS machines and titles? There must be a bunch of games that never received ports that matched the visual and audio quality of the original boards.

Adam

Hi all, A friend and I recently played through every console and PC 007 game between 1996 and the present, and overall we had a blast (although some titles were quite a miserable experience). Do either of you have fond memories of any games in the franchise? Additionally, has there been any internal interest in doing more Retro episodes on any of the 007 titles beyond the existing Goldeneye one?

Do you have any recommendations for how to keep up with the latest in retro gaming product news? I recently became aware of the Retrotink 5x after watching the newest videos from some of my favorite content creators, but by that point I had already missed the boat on ordering from the first wave. Not sure if it's feasible, but I'd love to see a mini DF Retro Direct Weekly that touches on the latest and greatest in the retro scene!

The majority of retro cables needed in a setup today can be purchased from incredible members of the community, such as RetroGamingCables in the UK/EU and Castlemania in the US. One thing that I still struggle with is finding a great RGB SCART switcher - especially in the UK/EU. Do you guys have any recommendations? Why aren’t people making these? Keep up the awesome work!

SirCalalot

The Retro RGB weekly podcast usually gives people the heads-up on new pre-orders going live. Have you checked them out on YouTube?

I love my gscart. Would highly recommend if you can purchase it in UK.

How come the retro gaming scene is so focused on BVM's and PVM's? I've spent some time hooking up PC/SBCs to CRT TVs, and the help resources are a bit thin on the ground. European TVs with PAL60 are also super underrated for playing NTSC games. I feel like people are missing out because finding a BVM/PVM can be huge obstacle.

Hey guys. I recently bought an Evercade. One of my favourite cartridges for this system is The Oliver Twins Collection as I am a huge Dizzy fan. Which Dizzy game are you guys most fond of?

RedRobN

In the Power Blade video, you mentioned you consider it part of a trilogy which reminded me you said something similar about Psycho Fox, Decap Attack and something else. I'd love you to write these pseudo-trilogies (and any others you have) down for us so I can hunt them out.

Dan

I also highly recommend gscartsw if you can find it. It's worth waiting several months compared to what else is out there imo.

With Returnal, Battle Axe, Streets of Rage 4, do your guys see a resurgence in interest for arcade style games? But, did this interest went away or was bad decisions/miss reads done by executives that caused the dryout ?

Thomas

What do you think is the next Analogue product after the Game Boy and Duo? It’s hard to see what would be ahead, maybe Saturn but that might not even be possible on the DE10, let alone a more affordable chip that would go in a mass market machine.

SirCalalot

Thanks guys, but it like like only Castlemania sell these units. Shipping to the UK is quite pricey. It’s so odd that the region of the world that actually used SCART as a standard back in the day just has little to no modern switcher solutions.

Great, thanks! I definitely watch Retro RGB content sometimes, but I didn't realize he had a weekly update that does exactly what I was asking for. Following it now!
