Laptop GPU naming conventions are getting pretty tricky. There's an RTX 3080 in mobile form that's not really much like an RTX 3080 in desktop form: different silicon, different clocks. But what is the difference in performance terms, exactly? Turns out to be a really difficult question to answer - because power and thermal considerations also have a big bearing on frame-rates.

I've tried to get to the bottom of it in this video with the XMG Neo 17, a laptop that can blast a ton of power (150W) through the silicon - but it's also configurable to a minimum of 115W, so we can measure the impact of power changes and map that against performance. On top of that, I added in some metrics from the Asus Zephyrus G15 - a laptop with the same silicon and a mere 80W power budget.

XMG Neo 17 RTX 3080 Laptop Performance Review vs Asus Zephryus G15 vs Desktop Ampere!

XMG's Neo 17 is one of the most flexible, powerful laptops on the market, hosting the notebook powerhouse that is Nvidia's RTX 3080... except it's not quite the same RTX 3080 as the desktop version. And then there's the whole power delivery thing to consider. So just how capable is the notebook rendition of the RTX 3080, and how does XMG's high power implementation stack up against something like an 80W variant in the ASus Zephyrus G15? To find out everything you need to know about the mobile RTX 3080, this should have you covered! Interesting findings, thanks Rich!

This is what I experienced with a 1070 mobile on my Omen Laptop. It was basically a 1060 or so. But still impressive

What is the song in the background of this video!? I love it!
