The new 1.007 patch for Horizon Forbidden West tweaks image quality to reduce shimmer, which it does to a limited degree, and you can see the difference here. I wouldn't put too much stock into the YouTube version which simply doesn't have the bandwidth to capture image quality - the downloads below will show the difference.

This is material generated for the next DF Direct, where we discuss the patch, but the current theory is that a higher (ie lower quality) mip level is used for vegetation textures, to reduce some of the aliasing. Also curious - and not shown here - is that it looks like there have been image quality tweaks for the quality mode too, slightly softening the image.

On a real TV, this is honestly hugely distracting. Straight edges, like stairs, wobble, and aliasing can result in bands and ringing; high detail textures fizz and warp in the background of the talking head conversations. The image has such a light TAA touch, that at times it looks like it has no AA at all

I'm sticking with the download then :)

I worry this might be throwing the baby out with the bathwater, especially if it softens quality mode. There's slightly less shimmering, but I also miss some of the details. Like on the distant red grass on the left around 2min.

I agree. I might he the only person other than John who loved resolution mode as is with it's surprisingly smooth 30 fps. I loved the sharp texture art style. Most people just probably need to turn the sharpness setting on their tv down to zero. I immediately did that when i first booted up the game and the shimmering was gone immediately. All I was left with were sharp beautiful textures that honestly ruined other games for me. Every game I play now feels blurry in comparison.
