As it's a holiday weekend, early access on this one is going out to all supporters. It should have gone live/public today, but right now it's set to come out tomorrow after another quality check.

Here's the blurb: Sony combines a tablet LCD display with actual DualSense hardware to create a unique remote player for detaching PlayStation 5 gameplay from your main display. In this review, Rich assesses the rather cool hardware and gets to grips with Sony's Remote Play - what's the image quality like and how laggy is it? And does this - or any other review - actually count when so much of the experience is reliant on the integrity, quality and consistency of your WiFi connection?

Any comment on the studder issues people are experiencing as shown in this video? https://www.reddit.com/r/PlaystationPortal/comments/183he1e/_/ People are saying that this is unique to the official remote play client and the portal, and not experienced on Chiaki, Chiaki4deck, and PSPlay. I know in the video you mentioned frame drops on all remote play clients, but is this studder what you were referring to? Great video btw!

I think the Wii U comparison does need to take into account that the connection for that console was point to point rather than going over the home network. The benefit of this was latency was close to non-existent with the Wii U, but that comes at a massive cost to portability. The Wii U screen mirroring was only good for about 10-20 meters or so from the console, and would basically drop off entirely if you went into another room. As such there’s a versatility trade off. It looks like Sony is giving you more freedom to moving around the house where the Wii I for all intents needed you to retain line of sight with the console and didn’t allow you to be truely untethered from it. It’d be an interesting trade off to allow the PS Portal to optionally establish a point to point connection if you were in proximity of the console to get that Wii U experience. I can see one issue being that Sony may want a consistent “user story” where users can expect to move around their house, and that a point to point connection wouldn’t allow it. Unlike TV or audio where content can be cached, gaming needs to be a live feed and I can’t imagine that the Portal could transition from Point to Point to Wifi without a dropout if a user happened to walk around their house, away from their console. I do think the Wii U was very impressive but again I don’t think it can be understated that the tech really wanted you to be in the couch in front of the console and I get the impression Sony wanted to allow a bit more freedom of movement, without going so far as to add 5G.
