[Don't mind the swim goggle markings around my eyes - I recorded these right after going for a lap swim LOL]

Discussing Glass, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, The Matrix Revolutions, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and Jersey Girl. ❤️

Direct link here.

PS. My apologies guys, I genuinely thought I had communicated that these would go out today not yesterday. My fault for taking a week "off" while still scheduling work tasks. 😅 That also means The Drop reaction will be coming tomorrow instead because I had that in my brain this whole time lmao.

Rewatching "Glass" with your reaction made me understand why I originally found it disappointing. For about the first two thirds of the movie during the rewatch, I was like, "You know, this movie is actually pretty good. Once you abandon your expectations on what you were hoping it would be, it has its own vibe." Little character threads, like David's son needing to believe his dad was a hero really work. But then when the climax of the movie came and David fought the Hoard on the lawn, I realized I wasn't invested in the movie at all. I think it's because their fight exists totally in a vacuum. These characters seem to have no greater connection to the world; heck, the institution itself seems to not even have any other patients. (Just showing glimpses of other patients could've really lent the movie a sense of scale.) We find superheroes awe-inspiring for the ways they can affect the world at large. But this small bunch of characters only seemed to affect each other. And when the fight happens, it doesn't feel like any "greater good" is at stake. As was discussed under the original reaction post, this was shot when Willis was really cognitively compromised, so who knows how that limited the way Shyamalan approached the story. But given Shyamalan's inconsistent track record, maybe Willis's condition didn't impact things that much.

If you want to just dip your toes into the Batman 1966 world, there is a movie, imaginatively called Batman: The Movie (1966). It's technically somewhere in the continuity of the show, but my recollection is that they wrote it in a way where it also holds up independently because they figured people might check it out by itself, and the show is not really the kind of show where spoilers matter -- every week Batman just gets into a new adventure and AFAIK there is not the kind of continuity we traditionally expect from contemporary TV shows. I will also clarify, re: StudioCanal, in many cases you will find that the movies are from a different distributor or company in the United States but are controlled by StudioCanal overseas. My guess is that in many of those cases, the American studio actually made and owns the movie, and merely licensed it to SC for international release and thus SC leaves the copyright stuff up to them.

This is literally the first time I have heard anybody denegrate Roy or criticize his parenting in any way in all my life. I don’t see it and it has never crossed my mind. He was going through something he couldn’t explain and his wife (understandably, to a degree, didn’t have the patience to deal with it. His parenting skills themselves are rooted in the 70’s as were my parents’ so I don’t have any argument against how he spoke to his kids either. I don’t know. I’ll agree to disagree on this point.

I don't know about denigrating, but I have seen interviews with Spielberg where he said he wouldn't have written Roy the way he did if he had that movie to do over again. He specifically cites how easily Roy just leaves his kids and his family.

Also, I have to say I am impressed after the previous video that you managed to keep this one under two hours given it's two weeks worth of comments, although of course the volume of replies isn't something you have influence over.
