Seeing Trip again was something I never expected but was sooo joyful over!

TRIP! It was so nice seeing him again. I thought Mace’s out this episode was very poetic. He always had the best intentions and wanted inhumans to be treated fairly, but he was insecure because he was pretty weak and didn’t have any inhuman powers . He would have been dead when they switched him but they kept him in the framework, and made him an inhuman in the digital reality. At the end, he showed his selflessness and went out the way he wished he could have in the real world.

My favorite single arc in all of AoS--and that's saying something, because I geek the fuck out over this show. Trip! Ward! But it's Fitz that steals the show for me. I both hate and love watching him be an evil piece of shit in this, just because Iain De Caestecker is so good. I also both hate and love watching Mace go out in this episode--he gets to be the hero he always wanted to be, but dies in the process; and, helps awaken something in May in the process. Going to watch these while I eat a late breakfast. Good shit.

Bit of a roller-coaster this episode - we get the big reveal of why Fitz is so different, the joy of Trip returning, the loss of Mace (another victim of the 'recurring character KL likes' curse 😜) and end with Daisy getting her powers. There are quite a few callbacks to S2: the serum May takes is Cal's formula (possibly even that exact version, rather than the revised one Mace was taking in the real world); the scientist who tells May about it is Jemma's lab partner when she was undercover in Hydra; the brainwashing technique being used on the children in the 'enlightenment centre' is the same one Whitehall used on Agent 33, Donnie Gill and Carl Creel; the mention of Bakshi News; and of course the Daniel Whitehall chapter in the 'history' book. There's also a brief S1 callback with the 'Inhuman' with lion paws for hands - Garrett mentions having locked him up in the Fridge when he and Ward raid it. One thing we do find out is that AIDA is indeed still following her programming - but exactly to the letter. She doesn't force May to take the serum that is potentially harmful to her, but instead asks if she's willing to take it, leaving the decision to May. Likewise, she doesn't give the order to kill Mace, rather she poses (somewhat leading) questions to Fitz and leaves the actual decision to act up to him - so technically, she isn't the one responsible. We heard from Jemma that Fitz's father was not a nice man, and now we get to see just what she meant - and it's honestly worse than we might have imagined. Not only has he moulded Fitz into a very ugly human being, but he basically admits to having abused Fitz during his childhood. To clarify, Fitz's father is alive in the real world, just isn't part of Fitz's life. The conversations between Radcliffe and Daisy and Aida and Daisy are both interesting - Radcliffe is so right that people are capable of anything given the right circumstances, and a single event can totally change the course of someone's life. Aida on the other hand shows that she still doesn't fully understand humans - the fact that humans can want things that aren't good/right for them isn't logical, so it's beyond her understanding.

It's so sad seeing Mace dying. At the start of the season we didn't trust him because we didn't know him. But each episode we learned a bit more about him, until we realized that he was a good man. He just wanted to help people, but he had a lot of regrets about not being an inhuman and his fake story in Viena. At least he died being the man he always wanted to be: A hero, a patriot. May you rest in peace, Mace. About the last scene with Daisy, I love how they brought back the same OST as when she first transformed in season 2. It's very poetic thinking about how that episode was the same one when we lost Trip, and here we see him again. I missed him.

We only got 17 episodes with the man, but gosh I really came to love and respect Mace. I loved your reaction when Trip came on screen! It echoed my own first time I watched it. 😁 I really don't understand how anyone could be swayed by the offer of getting a "better version of their life". Either you remember your old life and must live in constant agony with the realization that this life isn't real. Or you don't remember your old life, in which case; is it even you living this new life? Seems more like a clone of yours gets to live out a fantasy life after you are killed off. Who would choose that?

Mace died doing the one thing he lied about doing in the real world. Protecting someone from harm when a building exploded. Very sad but He also died saving his team and I think he would be happy to know that. The episode that trip died is the episode Daisy got her powers so it is poetic that the episode he returns she gains her powers again. We are nearing the end of the season and I wanted to say season 4 still hits on rewatch. I still get emotional when Mace whole arc ends this episode.

Who would have thought that after all of their bitter history we'd get a Simmons/Ward team up! I appreciated that, whilst having trouble coping with the digital members of the Framrework, Jemma volunteered to go with Ward to stop Mack from potentially making a fatal sacrifice! RIP Jeffrey Mace, we didn't know you too well but you were winning us over.

Fitz’s Dad didn’t die in the real world he just abandoned him

I'll comment on both episodes here cause I'm so behind on commenting and they running together in my head and I'm sure most things are covered. For me seeing what things changed each character and whats snapping them out of it is whats so good, but Fitz is the hardest to imagine and watch right now. Heartbreaking seeing the trauma its caused Jemma and who knows what it can cause down the road mentally for Fitz since it seems so real. Mace going out like the hero he always wanted to be sad but justified cause he always wanted to save the team, now that I think about it, its like that photo of him saving that women in real life is how he died in the framework. Im just afraid what Mack might go through once he finds out Hope isnt real thats gonna be very hard. So would you rather be a battery an be in The Matrix or an Avatar in the Framework...

I think The Watcher would say something as similar as what Radcliffe said: a single choice can make or break someone.
