The moment when AIDA says, “What?” 😂 I lose it every time, it makes me laugh so hard. She goes full crazy. Also best end scene of the show in this one 🔥 💀

Christopher simeon

Season 4 is just full of crazy and her name is Ophelia. Finale time.

How far AoS has come - if we had said back in S1 that eventually you'd get the line "Oh, you know, tried to become a god, so we opened up a portal beneath his quantum power cube and Ghost Rider dragged him to another dimension with his hellfire chain" you probably think we were talking about a different show! We get confirmation that everyone remembers their entire Framework lives, which is going to have a different impact on each of them. May, despite having physically been in the Framework the longest, is actually likely to have the shortest experience of 'new' memories - Bahrain happened 7 years prior to S2, so her 'change point' would be about a decade ago at most. Mack will be similar, as we found out in 4x11 that Hope died eleven years ago. Fitz and Coulson on the other hand will have had the majority of their lives changed - we know that in the real world Fitz's father walked out when he was ten, so he'll have roughly twenty years of new memories, and Coulson was still in college when he was approached to join SHIELD, so he's probably got 30 years of new memories. Ophelia is not technically wrong per se when she tells Fitz that she didn't control how the Framework developed, but she is being very disingenuous - she may not have had outright control over things (as she notably couldn't force the team to do what she wanted), but she definitely manipulated people/events to further her goal of escaping her programming and becoming 'human'. Fitz saying he's just like Ward is a gut punch - mainly because there's a degree of truth to it. Yes, the Framework isn't 'real' (though that in itself is open to debate, as it quickly becomes a pretty deep philosophical question), but the circumstances of how Fitz became the person he was in the Framework and how Ward became how he was in real life are very similar - both are a result of manipulation/grooming by their respective father figures, and having their 'weaker' emotional sides suppressed. Seeing how Ward was in the Framework without Garrett just further emphasises that. Despite the heaviness of the aftermath of the Framework, there's still a good few funny moments peppered through this episode, many of which are between May and Coulson ("Kill me - yep, that's what happened" 🤣) - Coulson is hilariously awkward and embarrassed around May before they escape the oil rig! Originally, the Superior was supposed to become MODOK - hence the "designed only for killing" line (I understand that's what it stands for in the comics) - however whilst Marvel Studios had initially given permission for AoS to use the character, they then revoked it (thus you get the version of the character Quantumania provided instead...). And yeah, Mallory Jansen is fantastic throughout this whole season.

Regarding the timeline order - splitting S5 is an insane idea. Aside from the fact that I've no clue how whoever put that list together decided that every remaining non-AoS season takes place between 5x19 and 5x20 (which doesn't even make sense within AoS's own timeline), actually following it like that would mean a wait of just over a year by my calculations - others are welcome to check, but from what I can tell there's 123 episodes left in the remaining shows/seasons (excluding AoS).

Onno Smits

Agreed, once you get to it, there is no harm in just finishing up the last 4 episodes of S5 before jumping into the other shows. With regards to Daredevil: Born Again; I haven't seen it yet, but it seems evident that it'd be wise to watch all of the original Netflix stuff before jumping into it. For YouTube numbers, if you want to get up-to-date on the main MCU stuff soon-ish, it might be wise to prioritise the Netflix stuff a bit going forward. I hate that I'm saying that. I'm mostly here for AoS, and not really that into the Netflix stuff. But that is a valid strategy. Honestly, the main reason I haven't seen Born Again yet is because I never bothered to watch Daredevil S03. 😅 But I want to get to it before I jump into Born Again.

Onno Smits

I'll save my last AoS comments for the foreseeable future (😭) until tomorrow's finale post.

Steve Mercier

Fucking loooooooooooooooove this episode. "Poor thing, you're a romantic, and there's only room in your heart for..." "Her." "What?" And then Ghost Rider walks through the magical glowy sphincter machine. Fuck yes!

Steve Mercier

P.S. Mallory Jansen is phenomenal in this role. Never cared much about awards and stuff, but give them all to her and Iain De Caestecker and Elizabeth Henstridge.

Chris Elkins

Imagine having every single emotion and feeling hitting all at once while not truly understanding them, you would be a mess. Throw in a little blind jealous rage and you get what we got..... Crazy The range of Mallory Jansen for this season and this episode is outstanding, you feel sympathetic for her up until the jealous rage hits and she becomes the unstopable killing machine. Had all the feels with the basiclly silent scene with Jemma and Fitz these 2 actors have grown so much, IMO the biggest part of the show is seeing them grow as characters and actors. Still so many things to work out, Coulson and May, Mack and YoYo, the Russian and return of ghost rider !

Appreciate your detailed thoughts and def agree! As for MODOK, I am curious how AoS would have handled that. I feel like it would have been better than the Quantumania version...

Movies with KL

Okay good to know that I don't have to split Season 5, because I don't love the idea of doing that either.

Movies with KL

@Onno: It's tricky because I wouldn't want to upload reactions to Born Again to YouTube without editing the first three seasons of Daredevil reactions first. And I don't want to *only* be watching Marvel TV as my only TV reactions. I've been thinking about it, still not sure exactly what to do.

Movies with KL

Completely agreed. Mallory really gets a good range in this show.

Movies with KL

Yes, I'm so happy she got so much range with this character. It must have been a fun role to play.

Christopher simeon

The Netflix and AOS are the big Marvel ones but AOS does not have to be edited for YouTube and is longer then every series so it definitely doesn't have to prioritize but it is a big commitment. Daredevil born again season 2 premieres next year in March I believe so here is my advice. Try to go through the Netflix shows so you are ready to post them in March on YouTube during born again since the hype will be there. Take a look at you schedule and see if you could at least finish daredevil season 3 by then. For non Netflix shows you could try doubling up. Like one episode from each show instead of two since I don't believe the timeline order is important for them like it was for AOS and the other shows.

Sean Ellingham

@kaiielle I'm a little biased, as I'm mostly interested in AoS like Onno, but my suggestion would be to pull AoS S6/7 into the 'non-Marvel' slot after S5 and watch concurrently for a while - S6/7 are both 13 episode seasons, so you'd get through them a lot quicker, and it avoids the one year gap you'll otherwise get by following the order (it's quite possible that with a gap of that size people who are only into AoS might forget to come back). The other thing I'd say is that Runaways and Cloak and Dagger could be left until the end - for all intents and purposes, Marvel TV has three sub-universes that don't really interact with each other: the ABC shows, the Netflix shows, and the Hulu/Freeform shows - pulling them out will cut the post S5 non-AoS episode count from ~120 to ~70, allowing you to get through the Netflix shows more quickly

Kailey

i love that scene so much 🥺🥺 and Fitz has no idea that Jemma was listening in on the entire conversation and to see the relief on her face when he chooses her. its crazy to think of how aida saw the love the two of them have for each other and did all of this to have it herself. You just feel so bad for Fitz seeing how broken he is right now :(( and the scene between the two of them were they breakdown crying together with no words needed is so heartbreaking everytime

Christopher simeon

I agree with Sean. If there was a best place to pause Agents of shield it is after season 5. Worse case scenario if your schedule becomes unmanageable and you can't continue the show most people would be ok with that so you can have that as an option. The story sort of has a natural break after the mid and season finale so both those points are good. You could do the other shows in between those points.

Thadman

Yeah, there were two times where she said, "What?" that cracks me UP every time. This one was the second one, the first one was in the Framework after Jemma killed Fitz's dad and they informed Ophelia in bed about it. She goes, "What?" and it sounds like "Whuh?" There's only one reactor I've seen that also laughed at that.🤣

Thadman

That's interesting that you said you're mostly here for AoS more than the Netflix shows 'cause you always see people in comments talking about the NF Marvel shows being better than anything Marvel puts out, which I think is an absurd statement, myself. I appreciate all the stuff and I like them, in large part, because they are different and have different feels to them, which makes it more like comics to me. I've always said that in comics, there's something for everyone. They're not just one thing, catering to one type of person's tastes. There's a ton of comics I never read 'cause they just weren't for me, but some others LOVE them. That's GREAT. So, it always bugs me when you see people come into comment sections and crap on the show being reacted to because "You need to get to Punisher! Best show in...blah, blah, blah." "Well, that's just like...your opinion, man." - The Dude Don't get me wrong, I really liked The Punisher series and the other NF shows to varying degrees. I don't feel the need to trash stuff that just may not have been my cup of tea. I wouldn't tell someone to not watch something, but I can give my opinion and say that you can watch something if you're curious, but I may not be able to recommend it 'cause I didn't find it entertaining or informative. And when peoples' time is limited (and whose isn't), I can say, "You can probably skip 'Inhumans' 'cause it's not a great representation of the characters and it was rushed through, so not very interesting story and that would be hours of extra viewing." Something like that. For something like "Secret Invasion," I was very disappointed in that 'cause it started with such promise, I'd say it's still worth watching because it informs you of major changes in characters and certain aspects of the MCU that you'd be wondering about later. For me, AoS is peak comic book TV and YES, I am including the NF shows. 😁 It holds up SO well on rewatches, in fact, you catch a whole lot more stuff on rewatches and the NF things, as good as they are, aren't as layered and complex as AoS. They're darker. They're heavier, but not as layered. But, like I said before, may not be someone else's thing. I actually had someone I knew say that they stopped watching a show because it got to having "too much character development." I was speechless and am still stunned when I think about that statement. All I can utter is, "... ... ...WHAT?!?" I almost said, "We have nothing to discuss anymore."😂 That show they were talking about was "Stranger Things," by the way. Anyway, because they are part of the MCU now, for sure, I'd say the NF shows are "required reading" so you know who the characters are and what they've been through, 'cause they WILL reference things they've been through already.
