Season finale time! This one was.. a lot. 😅 And so good! [Direct link here.]

A reminder that I'm taking a break between Marvel watches, so Episodes 1 + 2 of Iron Fist will release on Fri May 30 and Sat May 31 for y'all! I'm excited to get into that one. When I was looking to see how many episodes were in Season 1, I noticed the poster of it has the actor who played Loras Tyrell in Game of Thrones! I haven't seen Finn Jones in anything but Game of Thrones, so I'm excited to see what this character is all about.

Thanks so much for watching! Looking forward to your comments. 😊

There's a lot to love here, but I think your thumbnail sums it up for me on this episode. Henry Simmons is amazing, and Mack's journey in this last arc of the season is one of my favorites. Really, everyone's journey this season has been amazing, from Daisy coming back into the fold, to the ups and downs of Phil and Melinda--and the beautifully tragic L.M.D. Melinda--to FitzSimmons, and to Yo-Yo in her limited time on screen. Hell, even the S.H.I.E.L.D. B-squad of Piper and Davis got some fleshing out, and Radcliffe and AIDA feel like they got full character arcs. Next season is another damn good one, but I think after having just watched this again with you, this season--at least for now--is my favorite one.

I am at work but I wanted to mention that we got LMDs of all the characters at some point this season. LMD Simmons was the one that was going to replace Simmons before Simmons got away.

love this finale and season overall! Also love the end credit clip cliffhanger - can't wait for you to see what season 5 has in store!

A truly epic finale for an epic season! Coming up to this finale you talked about how you didn't know whether or not Mack was going to survive, and that you weren't sure which would be more devastating - those of us who are familiar with Mutant Enemy's other shows know from experience that there's always a way to make it worse, and now we get to find out what that is: having Hope disappear in Mack's arms - and just to rub it in, then have us wait what feels like just a little too long before he wakes up. I like your take on why Mack is OK after coming out of the Framework - it's not an angle I'd considered before. My thoughts were that since Mack has throughout the season been the most adamant that the LMDs aren't real, he'd likely apply that belief to the Framework as well - as a consequence, he'd probably try to (for want of a better way to phrase it) "put a brave face" on his experience, and rationalise away feelings he had about it as not being "real". Fitz on the other hand is at the complete opposite end of the spectrum - believing that everything about the Framework was completely real, and more than that, that Leopold is how he truly is. His initial desire to take fully responsibility for everything to save the team is a reflection of that, that he needs to be punished for what he did both in and outside the Framework. It's so much fun having Robbie back - having him and Ophelia fight gives us some great VFX sequences. Her face changing from her initial cocky look to the sheer terror when her powers have no effect is so satisfying. Coulson fanboying over him and Daisy fighting together is great, and totally in character for him. What else? The twists with the Jemma LMD and Coulson Rider are great, the Daisy LMD shooting Talbot is quite a shock, and like you I love how we say goodbye to Radcliffe - it's a perfect way to end both his arc and the Framework itself. Seems pretty clear that SHIELD is going to be back to the S2 position of having to hide from the government (although it looks like the team has bigger problems at the moment given how we end things). There were plans for a while about having Gabriel Luna lead a Ghost Rider series that would air on Hulu, set after this season, however after initial discussions it got abandoned. I don't recall exactly what happened, but I believe it was around the time that Disney were looking into launching Disney+ and all the Netflix shows got cancelled, so it might have had to do with Disney starting to wind down Marvel TV in favour of Marvel Studios. Someone else might be able to chime in with more info. As for the cliff-hanger at the end - I'm not sure why you found it confusing, as it was quite clear to me... 😜

If the show had been greenlit, they would’ve filmed it in Texas and have the story take place there. It would’ve been fitting since Texas happens to be Gabriel Luna’s home state.

Gary Marshall

Jemma to AIDA..."I know, I just REALLY wanted to do it" just about sums up her feelings to pretty much the whole of this season. We've seen in previous seasons that she is very protective of her friends (remember "If I see you again, I'll kill you!") and her annoyance at AIDA for all the hurt she has caused really comes out in that sentance. Also, LMD Simmons line "You did this Fitz" leads makes me think that she knew that she was an LMD and Fitz had programmed her to attack AIDA. Great finale to a wonderful season, where each of the 3 pods made sense and all came together in the finale. Looking forward to your season 5 reactions!

Season 4 is at the top of many Marvel fans list and it really deserves it. It just hit all the things that make a entertaining narrative. I love how the Engineers are physically the villains of each arc but their creations do the damage. Eli "created" Lucy and her ghosts and they were the problem in the first arc. Radcliffe created the LMDs and they were the problem in the second arc. Fitz created "Aida" and the framework technology and those were the issues in the finale arc. I barely remember ironfist mostly because I fell asleep watching episodes. I will try to rewatch it with you .

Great finale. Everything wrapped up solidly. Mack and Yo-yo pulling at heart strings and Radcliffe at peace with dying and his speech. We were missing Daisy with the team split up at the start. Missing May from the middle of the season. The team finally feeling whole in this finale. Patiently waiting for my personal favorite season (s5). Can’t wait for the Defenders and Punisher as well.

And yet another one for the "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. did it first!"-BINGO card; Who has "Realize you're in a fictional reality and are now forced to give up your fake child because the reality is collapsing around you." from WandaVision? I 100% agree with your personal ranking so far; This is the best season that you've watched, but with full appreciation that it's partly that way because it's built on the character work from the previous seasons. The way Mack just sits there, his daughter vanished, and he is so distraught and doesn't know what to do... It fucking breaks me every time. 😭

Aldo Gonzales

Coulson noticed it, too. He said this was the first time in a while that they’ve all been together.

Thadman

Yeah, Mack's time in the Framework is a blessing and a curse because he did get 10 or 11 years with Hope that he never had before, but he still had to lose her.

At this point Marvel Television and Marvel Studios weren't really talking to each other much, so the connections to the movies is very minimal and AoS showrunners were just like, "OK, we're just gonna do our own thing and not try to create storylines to fit into the movies because we're getting no collab." There was some bitterness at the time, but not a ton overtly. I think Chloe Bennett was probably the most outspoken about it and how they're not getting much respect from Marvel Studios. The magic/Darkhold stuff that is reminiscent of Doctor Strange is the closest connect to the movies they would have. Not spoiling anything, but just saying that if you're looking for what movies connect to the show during this timeline going forward, there's not much. We, who watched it at the time, knew about this tension and could see the connection to the movies dropping off and getting less direct, like this season. You recognize the portals from Dr. Strange, but there's no mention or story elements dealt with from the movie. The showrunners were pulling more from the comics from the time that Inhumans were introduced. Story-wise, the lack of connection could be explained by saying that in the movies, SHIELD no longer exists after the HYDRA takeover in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," so this is why what SHIELD deals with won't be things that are addressed in the movies.

Christopher simeon

Well technically they did mention Hong Kong events earlier this season and even in the movies both shield and Hydra still seem to be around in the background even after being "defeated"

Thadman

I don't remember the Hong Kong reference. Probably one of the many details that I gloss over when I watch/rewatch this. S'why rewatches are so rewarding. I also can't think of many instances in the movies where SHIELD (nor HYDRA) is mentioned in any way except in a past tense/historical way. It may still exist in the background in the movies, but they only talk about SWORD as the organization that does anything.

Joshua Gideon

It’s sad we’re getting closer to my least favourite season which is season 6 IMO who knows watching it with you KL it might change

Christopher simeon

In antman Hydra wanted the suit Darren made and Bucky in Falcon show stopped a Hydra senator.

Christopher simeon

Also Sword ironically just appeared from the background and was not a new organization so it is possible for them to exists without movies talking about them since before Wandavision they never talked about it.

Thadman

I think Bucky said the senator used to work with HYDRA and after they fell, sh still kept using his contacts or something. I just took it to mean that the network of baddies still exists, but no longer under HYDRA. But, I take your meaning about the Ant-man reference.

Thadman

Did they establish that Monica's mom started SWORD, so it wasn't around before the 90s?

Aldo Gonzales

I actually liked it a little bit better than season 5, but I won’t deny that season 5 also had some great moments.

Christopher simeon

The point really is that it existed for a while without anyone talking about it . It is not required for government agencies to publicly tell people what they are doing all the time.

Chris Elkins

Was such a great ending, for me seeing Coulson become ghost rider was epic, but what is the cost. Add that to the cliffhanger as well. Can't wait for season 5 one my favorite characters starts in season 5, the end scene of Coulson in space was a WTH moment back when the show was live.... it was a 7 month wait period WTH moment between season 4-5 lol worth the wait though ! I'm sure most everything is covered in the comments and by your reaction, so enjoyable to see others loving the show like I did back when watching it weekly.

Aldo Gonzales

When this episode aired, it ended with another epitaph. This time it was dedicated to Powers Boothe who we knew for his role as Gideon Malick.
