Hi everyone! First, the Coming Next post will be shared here very soon. In the meantime, here is this weeks movie reaction poll! Thanks so much for voting in last weeks War/Military poll. I'm really excited to watch the winner, Apocalypse Now, which had 56% of the votes! This movie had been on some polls in the past before, so nice to see it get a win.

For this weeks theme, I've decided to go with 80s Comedy movies. PLEASE NOTE that a handful of scenes in Airplane! are not new to me. I haven't seen that movie fully, though. Every other movie on this poll is completely new to me. I don't know anything about Police Academy or National Lampoons Vacation, and I only know that Trading Places stars Eddie Murphy and Dan Akyroyd, but that's it.

Happy Voting! This poll will close at end of day Sunday in my timezone.

Not really a bad pick between them..

I definitely favor Airplane! IMHO, it started β€œit” all. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Can't go wrong with Airplane, def voting for that. Although I do have a soft spot for Police Academy bc those were my jam when I was a kid!

Steve Mercier

Airplane might just be the greatest comedy ever made. It's not necessarily the smartest (although it is quite damn clever). It's just wall-to-wall jokes, and almost all of them land. It is inherently silly, and nonsensical; but it's fucking funny.

Nestor Custodio

Honorable mention goes to "Mannequin". I probably remember it more fondly than most, but it was certainly a unique concept. I miss the days of "this is a weird premise, but it's unique and we're gonna embrace it 100%" comedies.

Paul Howard

I believe it holds the record for "jokes per minute" at an average of over 3 which is nuts.

Airplane! (1980) is very good. The same creative team went on to work on The Naked Gun (1988), which is also hugely popular, but don't miss the cult favorite they made in between, Top Secret! (1984). It features a major star in the lead in his debut performance, and frankly, I think it's the best of these three, their biggest movies. Also, note that Airplane II: The Sequel (1982) is *not* by the same team. On the commentary for Airplane!, they note that they have never even watched it. Speaking of sequels, one thing I can say about Police Academy is, while I doubt anyone will tell you to watch them, it has not one, not two, not three, but six sequels, and two television series (one animated, one live-action). You'll probably get more people asking for the two Naked Gun sequels, the upcoming 2025 reboot/sequel, also titled The Naked Gun, and maybe even "Police Squad!" (1982), the TV show that was adapted into the original movie after being unceremoniously canceled.

That's insane, I can't believe Police Squad came out in 1982!β€”I genuinely had to google it because I thought you had made a mistake. I always thought that was a contemporary parody of late 60s early 70s cop shows. Now I feel like the idiot that thought Happy Days aired in the 50s.

Tyler Foster

The consensus among the ZAZ team was that the show was unsuccessful because people wanted to watch television while doing other things, and the style of gag they were doing required attention to the screen, so they turned it into a movie, which is why the subtitle for the first film is "From the Files of Police Squad!"

John Burns

I voted for Police Academy because I met and got a photo with Steve Guttenberg this past Calgary Expo.

DarthChef

And also why they recycled alot of the same gags from the show into the movie. Not complaining, I loved every minute of the show and the movies.

reverseBLT

This is really hard. They're all so much fun!
