This was the winner of the Moving Relationship Stories poll - thank you again to everyone who voted for it! I am so happy to have finally watched this one.

So many different themes at play here, but ultimately a great story about what humans are capable of - physically, emotionally, and mentally. Tom Hanks is such a wonderful and talented actor.

I'm looking forward to your comments! Thanks so much for taking the time to watch this movie with me, I really appreciate it! [Direct link here.]

Main bit of trivia that comes to mind is that they famously shot the first half of the film first and then director Robert Zemeckis went off and shot What Lies Beneath so that Hanks could lose a bunch of weight for the second half of the film.

Whenever I see the name Wilson at work, I have an uncontrollable reflex to call it out. 🏐 😆

So one could say the movie was briefly...cast away

I cannot imagine how strongly being stranded for so long would shift one's perspective. Things that seemed so important become insignificant. Things you once loved become grains of sand in your hand. Everything's fleeting and one moment could change everything. This is such a beautiful film. Tragic in many ways, hopeful in others.

It would certainly change you in many ways, that's for sure. I think it would break capitalism habits in us and it would probably be so overwhelming to be surrounded by so many *things*.

This movie needed just the right actor to pull of the specifics of this script, and Tom Hanks is that actor. One of my favorite Zemeckis movies.

I’m a sucker for a man vs nature film. Add Tom Hanks and you got gold. I love you see him go through the evolution of man. Starts by banging rocks together for water to creating fire to becoming a master hunter-gatherer.

My younger sister first watched this when she was 7. And Wilson's departure traumatized her. And she's never liked the movie after.

Oh gosh, that sounds about right. That would be devastating for a child.

Hadn’t seen the movie from beginning to end since it came out. Great reaction, forgot how amazing Tom Hanks was in this. Definitely should’ve gotten an Oscar for this one as well. Totally agree with you — the musical score was perfect. 👏🏼
