Hello there! This reaction is available as part of my "Try Before You Buy" reaction videos here on Patreon. For the TV series that I react to, I give the first episode out for free so you can experience it with me and see if you're up for joining us to continue! You must have your own copy of the episodes to watchalong as I do blur the episodes and have the audio muted. There is 60 seconds of syncing time at the start of this episode. I am not allowed to distribute the entire episodes in my videos, as this is illegal. Thank you for watching along with me!

PS. I realized the audio is a little bit different between my reaction + reviews, and the microphone cuts me out a bit here and there during my review. I had adjusted my setup in OBS a little bit to make things easier for me and didn't realize the audio ended up changing with it. I recorded Episode 2 with the same as what's in this video, but I have fixed this moving forward.

I will eventually binge watch this show but I am currently still catching up on severence.

IMO, this episode is just about the most perfect first episode of a series. For the amount of characters it introduces, we get a pretty good picture of who each of them are. We also get to bond with them as they bond with each other. By the end of it we're already dreading the inevitable fact that we're going to lose some of them along the way.

Haha don't remind me. 😢😅 Thanks for watching along!

Not to worry, the reactions won't be going anywhere!

Yeah, Sobel definitely seemed to have at least some of the skills to train them, but would have been really unreliable in real combat. Schwimmer does a great job in that scene, even after being really harsh and uncompromising with the men we still feel a bit bad for him when he gets reassigned.

I have watched this show so many times now and I still can't get used to David Schwimmer playing Lt. Sobel. I mean you spend all those years watching him as Ross so when you see him you see.... well, Ross. Not saying he didn't do a good job, if he was meant to convey being a hard-ass on those men he damn well made it happen. It just when you see Winters and Nixon discussing who trained them at the beginning of the episode and then that person appears you definitely aren't expecting the guy whose most famous catchphrase is "we were on a break".

Haven't seen this since it first aired in the UK - quick Google suggests we got it about a month after the US release. Have to say that I don't think David Schwimmer was a good casting choice - it feels like half the time we're seeing Ross pretending to be a soldier rather than a distinct character. A lot of the rest of the cast were relatively or completely unknown at the time (though many are quite well known now) - a concept that tends to work very well for this kind of show - so casting someone who'd been starring in one of the most popular sitcoms of all time for seven years at this point feels like a gimmick at best. Incidentally, quite a few of the cast are British, not American - most notably Damian Lewis (Lt Winters). Jason O'Mara is also not the only Marvel connection - the most obvious one is Neal McDonough, but one of the other guys in Easy Company guested in AoS S2 (as part of 'real SHIELD'), and if you check IMDB then you'll find many more connections (such as Dominic Cooper and Michael Fassbender)

"The most obvious one" ... I never ever recognized during this entire show that the actor portraying Buck was Dum Dum Dugan. 😅
