This movie came through as a Reactr request and I'm so thrilled to check off another Heath Ledger performance! His smile is just the best. 🥰

Looking forward to your comments on this one! Note that I watched the theatrical edition (2h45m). [Direct link here.]

Thanks for watching! This week's schedule will be shared in a few hours.

The Patriot (2000) ✦ Full-Length Watchalong Reaction

The Patriot is a fantastic film. Not just a period piece or a war film, but a film that speaks to the person very deep inside of us that wants to fight for justice but whether we're too afraid or too worried about what other people think or whatever it is, we push that guy deep down. But as long as we're fighting for the right thing, and I know that can be a really hard thing to determine sometimes, then we shouldn't push our own instincts aside. We need more people that will stand up for what they believe in. As Dumbledore said, there will come a time when we all must choose between what is right and what is easy.

100%. I loved the revenge/justice part of this story.

For my money, this is easily Roland Emmerich's best movie. The battle sequences are really quite fantastic--that early one where Benjamin and his two terrified younger sons save Gabriel (and where Benjamin goes full berserker mode) is a stand-out. Also, the cast is nothing short of spectacular. The historical accuracy of the movie is really quite bad, however--perhaps especially the fact that a white plantation owner in South Carolina in the 18th Century would have had freed slaves. But...whatever. Hollywood gonna Hollywood. I get what they were going for, and ultimately it works, even if it gets a little sanctimonious and sentimental. The fact that this movie had the balls to kill off two of Benjamin's sons, along with one of their wives and extended family, gets some points from me (even if this incredible act of cruelty on the part of the British also represents another historical inaccuracy). The movie manages to make you feel a certain way, and that definitely counts for something. Also, Jason Isaacs (always awesome), and Jayne Cobb himself, Adam Baldwin!

Love this movie…would definitely be my favorite Mel Gibson film if Braveheart didn’t exist. Btw love the cozy, fall vibes in this reaction. Looking great 👍🏼

I didn't think to look up the director and what I've seen. The Patriot would be my #2 movie that I've seen so far. Sorry, but I don't think anything will kick The Day After Tomorrow out of the #1 spot for me, I just love that movie way too darn much. The other movies I've seen are Independence Day and 2012.

I really need to watch Braveheart soon. There were a lot of reviews on LBX that stated that it is pretty similar to The Patriot.

And thank you! The bright orange/yellow flowers and the pumpkins were definitely intentional to make it feel that way.

Might I suggest another movie with Jason Isaacs that is--oddly enough--historically accurate about the events, but also very inaccurate in regards to tone, called 'The Death of Stalin', which is a historical comedy. It's one of the funniest movies I've seen in a while, starring Steve Buscemi; but, Jason Isaacs shows up and steals the show. Even if you don't react to it, I'd suggest you check it out. That is all.

The Patriot is a pretty good movie. Not very accurate historically, but I still like it. I would say that I like it more than Braveheart. Which is also an excellent movie.

With the utmost respect, You look great in this react.

When you mentioned Jason Isaac’s hair flowing- I was thinking the same- I don’t think I’ve seen a hair down reaction from you- it was fun! Mel Gibson can get too intense for me, so I prefer him in Maverick and the Lethal Weapon series.

Haha I have quite a few of them, but for the last decade of my life I have definitely preferred wearing it pulled back. I am trying to wear my hair down more these days, though.
