EDIT: A couple members were experiencing issues trying to watch this earlier - a message popping up saying the video was private, which it's not. I have no clue what to do since the settings are the exact same as any watchalong that I upload to YouTube, so I have opted to upload this one directly to Patreon instead. But if you still want the YouTube version, click on the "Direct Link Here" button at the bottom of this post.

Thank you to everyone who voted for this in the Warlitary poll. This one really got to me.

I hope you enjoy the reaction and thanks so much for watching! 🥰

Making this feel like one continuous shot, the choreography, the cinematography, the framing, the acting, the beauty and the terror... This is literally one of the most perfect War films ever made.

Steve Mercier

Says this video is private...different teir?

Movies with KL

No, if it was set to a tier you didn't have access to, you wouldn't be able to comment on this post. And the video itself is not set to Private on YouTube. Can you try clicking on the "Direct Link Here" button which will open the YouTube video directly on YouTube?

Steve Mercier

Says 'Video unavailable. This video is private'

Ann Bostic

I’m getting the same “this is private” message IN YOUTUBE and I clicked on the direct link. 🤔 Edited to add: just got in on the third try! Second update: sigh, I can run it on YT in the Patreon app, but it won’t open then in the YT app from there, nor will it let me go full screen. Definitely weird behavior here!

Steve Mercier

As Ann Bostic says above, I can now watch it on YouTube...not sure what the deal is, but no big deal either way.

Hmm, that is extremely strange. I am trying to replicate this on my end by using a YouTube account that I have that isn't connected to my other YouTube accounts (my main channel or the watchalong channel) and I can't see the private message at all. I'm not sure what's up or if there is anything that I can do on my end. The video itself and the Patreon post are set up the way they always have been.

Movies with KL

That is very strange... I was trying to replicate it on my end and wasn't able to see the private message at all on the video using other accounts and incognito windows.

Steve Mercier

Thought it might be on my end, but it's not happening on any other Patreon page for me; or, with any of your other Patreon videos--just this one...so...not sure. Hopefully just a one-time glitch.

Such a beautiful film for a war movie. Epic cinematography, direction, music by Thomas Newman. Sam Mendes still one of the best directors we've ever had in my view. Love the continuous shot thing. I think I know where the stitches are, but it's still incredibly well done.

Movies with KL

Yeah I think I could tell where they were too, but doesn't matter. Still a very incredible thing to make a whole movie look like two takes.

Guy Gordon

Very weird. I'm getting the private video issue in both Chrome and Firefox when signed into YouTube. If I'm in incognito in either, it works. Havne't seen that before. Some temporary YT glitch, I guess?

Chris Thom

How beautiful was that shot in the dark where he wakes up and the camera pans out over the ruins with the flares going off? Might be one of my favorite pieces of cinematography in any movie.

Movies with KL

I loved that shot so much, absolutely beautiful and the lighting was really well done.

Guybrush Threepwood

This movie was incredible in the cinema, I knew with Thomas Newman doing the music it'd be super emotional! Love everything about this film but how hard does Richard Madden nail his one scene in the movie and he hits it so hard with such a flurry of emotions he has to go thru in such a short scene, incredible bit of acting!

Movies with KL

Yes, Richard did so good with such a short scene. Loved it.

When I first saw Blake, I thought he kinda looked like Gerard Way from "The Ghost of You" music video, (except is WWI this time) and I would have the line "You are never coming home, never coming home." drifting in and out of my head while watching. Not in a distracting way, just sort of sporadically. Then he died...and I don't know what to call that kind of experience I just had. What a movie though, holy cow! That entire chase sequence through Écoust with the rubble lit by the flares as they flew overhead has to be one of my favorite shots of any movie I've seen. Also, bravo to cast and crew for making the longest one-take movie in history.

Vincent Hollow

It was my first watch, yeah. Like I had mentioned on the poll, war movies aren't really my thing, but I had planned to get to 1917 at some point because it looked really good, so I am very glad that it won in the end. I would definitely rewatch this. This was easily one of the best of the war movies I've seen; pretty close to 2022's All Quiet on The Western Front, which is my favorite. That'd be a great one to follow 1917 with eventually since they both take place during WWI, but All Quiet... is from a German soldier's perspective and all in German. It's incredible, but certainly goes a lot heavier than 1917, just something to be aware of. That's still wild that in a 2-hour movie, there was *only* 34 cuts. There were a few moments where it gave a little bit of a video game feel, but not in a way that took me out of the experience. Kind of how the camera would turn or dip down in such a way that was almost like there was no camera, you know what I mean? Just another testament to the skills of the cinematographer and the director's vision.

Chris Thom

Thomas Newman needs his Oscar pronto. He's deserved it many times over.

This is one of my favorite films in the last decade. What a viewing experience. Great raw and emotional reaction just how I felt watching it the first time.
