And we've arrived at the season finale! It's always bittersweet watching a series that isn't yet completed, but I also love this moment where I get caught up with the rest of you!

This episode def got me emotional (yet again), but at least in a better way than the last episode! Enjoy my reaction to the finale and let's discuss the whole season/show up to this point and theorize about what Season 3 may give us! Looking forward to the chats. 🥰

Mark and Helly may be running away together... but realistically, where? Can they really hide from Lumon IN Lumon? My theories of all that's coming up - Irv's found the survivors that Burt helped escape and with Gemma's help will figure out how to reintegrate someone and both personalities co-exist without hopping between the two, storm Lumon and get Mark and Helly out of there. reintegrate Helly so her less charming personality feels love for the first time and she does the right thing and lets Mark go so he and Gemma can reunite. Then they'll reintegrate Dylan so he can realize what an amazing wife he has and be a better person for her. Irv will discover he was one of the first, if not the first, test subjects like Gemma which is why he has memories of the hallway and has those odd dreams. Burt was the original tester before The Dentist took over. Burt was transferred to a new department after falling in love with his test subject. And then Irv's gonna burn that place to the ground.

One possible story line could be if Helena/Helly became pregnant from either of "their" times with Marc. Both times it was spontaneous, so I'm pretty sure protection wasn't used unless I missed something. It could be a major story line if there is a pregnancy, or it could be glossed over if the writers just didn't want to go in that direction. It could also create a conflict if one of them wanted to keep the baby and the other didn't, although I imagine that Helena would have the final decision.

It has been so fun watching this along with you. I have mostly watched each episode for the first time with you each week (although i did cheat on the last few and watched ahead because i am weak.) I love the mystery of this show. I also feel like we are in good hands with the creators that they are not just messing with us and they have a handle on this web they are weaving. I agree that 1 or 2 more seasons max is appropriate, as any longer could damage the story they are telling. They definitely left Mark and Helly in a place with few options running around the severed floor. However, i think the conversation at the beginning of the episode that Jame sees Kier in Helly is important because that could give her some leverage and allow them to keep their identities longer. And it is crazy because i am invested in both relationships. It is not really a love triangle, maybe a love square? I liked that they did answer more questions, but in Severance fashion they also raised more. As I also just finished, i have not read any theories or message boards. But this seems like a whole rich people living forever kind of thing to me. That they want to be able to create some type of blank vessels for people and be able to transfer themselves into them. Maybe that is the "revolving" that was referenced last season finale. Who knows? Looking forward to your show plan ahead. Especially Ted Lasso, because have you reacted to a comedy series before? Finally, if you want to continue the well-made, mysterious, but captivating trend from Severance, Pluribus (new sci fi show by Breaking Bad creator) is really good so far.

I've had some time to think about this finale and the show overall since watching it (this reaction was recorded last week). Seeing the birthing cabin, plus the various rooms that Gemma-innies were being created for and tested in, leads me to believe that the ultimate goal of Lumon is to sell the ability to opt-out of experiences that would bring you any sort of negative emotion or physical pain (and this aligns with the various emotions that MDR would work on with their computers - Woe, Frolic, Dread, Malice). There's just one big issue that Lumon needs to work through and I think that's what we were witnessing with Gemma (and who knows how many other people being tested). If someone elects to sever, the severed version of them that they are choosing to put through an unpleasant experience has to be able to just do that experience without resisting. Maybe that was why Gemma was down there for so long. It almost seems like they were *training* her innies to become numb to the negative experiences they were being subjected to. Maybe that was why outie Gemma was kept in such a bland environment as well, to minimize any sort of joy that may carry over into her various innie personalities. 🤷🏻‍♀️ But also, they were making sure that outie Gemma was truly oblivious and unaware of all of these experiences too. To me, it seems like they're still a long ways away from their ultimate goal though. It's because Gemma was down there for so long (it's not exactly a profitable and efficient service if it takes a couple of years to numb innies into living their experiences without resistance). And Cold Harbor ultimately failed in the end, because that particular innie Gemma who was brand new was extremely quick to trust Mark within a couple of minutes despite not knowing him (which we can assume is due to the love for Mark that is still deep inside outie Gemma). All of that is assuming that my theory is correct, but it might not be at all. Where I get tripped up is trying to figure out the Kier/cult stuff, because cults are crazy so there are so many possible theories and answers when it comes to them.

And sorry to answer your last question - no, I haven't reacted to a comedy series yet! But I hear that Ted Lasso is also pretty heartwarming. I'm excited to watch it. And Pluribus is definitely on my to-watch list. Back when it was announced that Vince was making a new show with Rhea, I was already intrigued, and now that it's out and people are saying it's good, I'm even more intrigued. Just wish I had more time in a day!

Joe

I think your theories make a lot of sense. Especially thinking about it from a pure corporate perspective that it would be a better service they can sell. But the cult stuff does not fit into that as well. I mean, if they are selling this, does it come with a goat to sacrifice?

Steve Mercier

Mwa-HA-Ha!! I don't know why I'm laughing maniacally...I'm just so happy! Oh, no...I think I might be evil...

Chris Thom

Welcome to THE WAIT. Yeah it kinda sucks! Lol. But on a positive note there's near endless vids on YouTube to do a deep dive on, and read all the craziest theories about the show that you can imagine. I love this show. It's such a unique thing, with it's own special vibe. Honestly I'd been waiting for a show over the years that really tackles the concept of work/life balance and dissociation because it's such an essential part of life that we never quite address in a meaningful way. The time was ripe for this series. Props to Ben Stiller.

Chris Thom

I tend to think Burt will return, but not sure if we know for sure that Turturro has signed the contract yet.

Chris Thom

Yeah I'm thinking she's pregnant too. Would definitely add another layer of complication that the show needs to keep going, I think.

Movies with KL

Completely agreed! I'm glad the show isn't super realistic though, and really has a life of its own. There is so much to relate to still, but yet provides some awesome fictional story-telling and a fantastic overall mystery.

Movies with KL

I truly think the goat stuff is pure cult behaviour. Like it's something they attribute meaning to and think they have to incorporate to achieve the end result, when they wouldn't in reality.

Movies with KL

She could be. There is a lot in this show around sex/birthing/children. The weird sex-vibe room that Dylan experienced. The existence of the birthing cabin, which is the only other Lumon facility we've seen (that has the outie/innie thing happen with people). Cobel saying to that guard at the cabin that Devon was "One of Jame's" to allow them to gain entry without any suspicion. And then the theory I have that Gemma ended up where she did in Lumon as a result of her fertility struggles and Lumon taking advantage of that. It's hard to know where exactly this story might go. Jame appears to be participating in the birth of multiple children (though my guess is not actually through intercourse, but just manual sperm insertion) and I think it's to produce/find the true embodiment of Kier. But in Episode 9 he tells Helly that *she* is basically it. So if she is pregnant and they write that into the Season 3 storyline, that could get really interesting. Helly's rebellious nature appealing to Jame is dangerous, too.

It forces us to dive into specifics of the work/life balance and the practicality of ACTUAL separating the two and then consider ideas we never have before about identity and "what IS life?"

Thadman

I have a feeling that the first episode (maybe the first couple or few) will be outie stuff and they'll keep it a mystery for a bit of what happened with Mark and Helly. Beyond that, I don't wanna speculate on too much 'cause there's too many ways it can go...that I can THINK of and this show regularly goes in a direction I never thought of. With my luck, the first episode of next season will start with Mark and Helly running.😅

Thadman

Slightly off-topic, but a new show I've been VERY intrigued by and am about to watch the 3rd episode 'cause I've been waiting for it to drop is "Pluribus." I'd like to get more people's thoughts and reactions to it.

Chris Thom

Almost started that last week. Glad to hear that's good. Apple Plus has a pretty solid track record.

Chris Thom

One of the few shows where I'd be totally happy if it totally jumped the shark. More outlandish the better. Ready for anything.
