this episode..... as sad as it is I love the decision for the Framework to have such long lasting and impactful changes on each of these characters!

Been looking forward to this one - it's my joint favourite for this season alongside The Real Deal

I think in my shoes I would’ve done the same thing. Considering Daisy was the only way to seal it for the moment. At one point at every member of the team was willing to turn against the team for the greater good or hard calls. I don’t think it was right to do that to Daisy but I do believe they needed her to fix the problem.

This was a phenomenal episode. Tying back to Fitz’s injury and condition and also building up on it from previous episodes of the season. When Fitz was in prison being interrogating he theorized that he might’ve had a schizophrenic break down and may have done something to the team. He’s even shown to spacing out in conversation like how he was in Season 2

Right, we're at that point of the season - time for the betrayal episode where everything goes to hell! I'm being quite literal by that BTW - AoS has quite a few of its own tropes by this point, and one of them is that someone betrays the team around the 15th episode mark: 1x17 (Turn, Turn, Turn) - Ward is Hydra reveal; 2x15 (One Door Closes) - Mack/Bobbi & 'Real SHIELD' infiltrate the Playground, 3x17 (The Team) - Hive sways Daisy; 4x15 (Self Control) - the Coulson/Mack/Mace/Fitz LMDs. The Fitz reveal is so well done, with it being a result of his brain injury from S1 rather than the fear dimension. That this could happen was even explicitly foreshadowed in 5x05 - whilst in the prison, Fitz hypothesises that as a result of his experience in the Framework and his previous brain injury he could have 'suffered from Prodromal Schizophrenia, so it's possible [he] did something to them and blocked the memory'. We also get additional hints of that from his stuttering, which started as a result of that injury, and which was also exacerbated by stress/confronting fears (such as facing Ward or Leopold). Recalling that Fitz used to see Jemma in early S2 just caps it off. Daisy has gone through a hell of a lot of traumatic experiences now - this is at least the third time she's had some medical procedure done to her without her consent, and that doesn't even include being forced through Terrigenisis or being swayed by Hive. It's also not the first time that Fitz has been responsible, as he (Leopold) ordered her torture whilst she was in the Framework. Couple that with the many people who've died for her - Trip, Lincoln, Cal (in a way); having to both fight Jiaying and watch Cal kill her to protect her; being kidnapped; etc. - you can see why she's hardened over the years . None of this is to say that the rest of the team hasn't been through numerous pretty bad things as well, but I think Daisy has probably been through the most out of all of them. We continue with bringing back things from previous seasons with the return of Anton Ivanov from last season, and of course the Hydra reveal at the end (are they ever going to die!?). We have seen the symbols that were shown at the end before - Enoch had loads of them hanging on his walls courtesy of Robin. It was never confirmed that they were Kree by Enoch - he only said them to be an alien language unknown to anyone on Earth - but given the context of Robin's drawings Kree seems a reasonable hypothesis. I could say more about the end scene, but I'll leave it for you to figure out. Incidentally, whilst like yourself most people really like seeing Iain playing Leopold, IIRC Iain himself didn't like playing him. I don't recall where, but I remember reading that Iain felt that Leopold wasn't as interesting a character to play as 'regular' Fitz. Whether that's due to having played Fitz for ~4.5 years vs a handful of episodes for Leopold I don't know, but I thought you might find that interesting

Onno Smits

Lol, never saw that pattern, but you're right!

Pfff, masterclass in acting by Iain De Caestecker this episode! Another great episode. It's so much fun these past couple episodes seeing all the callbacks to previous storylines, including the iconic theme music motifs that accompany them.

Steve Mercier

That's Iain Motherfucking De Caestecker, thank you very much.

There is something so clever about the writers using the fear dimension to mask this twist. We know Fitz has been acting like the doctor. We know Fitz has hallucinated before and we know he has been trying to find a solution to the rift but the twist still manages to catch you off guard. If you want to see most of the hints of his break in the previous episodes I could link the video in the marvel chat. If not then it is fine.

We all have a side to us to get the job done, unfortunately mine has to come out at work nightly lol. Anyway Chole's acting during the operation scene was great how deep and stringy that implant was/is very disturbing. So much going on makes me love it even more and all the stories continue to bring in characters and aspects of previous seasons.

It was when Daisy said, "Who are you talking to?" when I said, "...Oh, FUCK!" 😆 Watching this ep in reactions is GREAT 'cause you just watch the people to see when they realize and the look on their faces IS priceless. At the time of airing, the fandom was split because a lot of people hated Fitz for actually performing surgery on Daisy without her permission and saw it as a HUGE violation. I mean, there were people that were completely on Daisy's side that also said they'd never forgive Fitz for doing that. There was no good solution to that situation and I do understand Fitz's position. Can't say I can decide whether I think it was the "right" thing. He did what he thought had to be done to save the world and accepted the consequences even if he thought no one would forgive him. I can definitely respect that.

I feel like Fitz stopped denying the Doctor in him and now they are just one person. Like how he stopped seeing conscience Jemma when he accepted his situation. After he realized it was him all along, he had to accept that part of him. He has a very analytical mind and he can't just ignore facts once he consciously knows them. So, I don't think he's two warring personalities anymore. When he was in the cell talking to Jemma, that's what I thought. I think that part of him will just do the things that need to be done, when they need to be done. Kinda like, in the Lighthouse, when he set that trap that killed those Kree when they walked in the room and he'd rigged a cable to slice through their heads and he seemed nonplussed about it. The Doctor, in the Framework, would do what he felt needed to be done, but he had no empathy. Fitz does have empathy, so he wouldn't do something cruel without considering the consequences on the people that he'd be affecting. That's how I see it.
