What an interesting take on a romance. Such a perfectly imperfect thing.

Looking forward to your comments and Merry Christmas Eve! 🥰

"In time you'll drop dead and I'll come to your funeral in a red dress!"

Moonstruck was written by playwright John Patrick Shanley, which provides a bit of insight into scenes like the climactic kitchen scene, which could easily be performed on stage. Director Norman Jewison would later say that scene was one of the hardest he ever had to shoot, and he rehearsed the whole thing with the cast until they had the timing down perfect before figuring out how he wanted to shoot it. When they were making the movie, during the early scene in the kitchen with just Cher and Olympia Dukakis, Cher jokingly indicated that the movie would flop, because she thought she was giving a bad performance. The movie would go onto be nominated for six Oscars, and Cher (Best Actress), Dukakis (Best Supporting Actress), and Shanley (Best Original Screenplay) would win (the other nominees were Jewison - best director, and Vincent Gardenia - best supporting actor, and Best Picture). Cher was the one who fought for Nicolas Cage, and ultimately used her clout to help get him the role. It ended up being one of his first breakout roles. However, you may be interested to know that his competition, the guy the studio wanted, was Peter Gallagher. Speaking of Gallagher, when you watch as many movies as I do, you can sometimes figure out what coast they shot a movie on based on who's in it. This one's not much of a mystery given it's set in New York City, but I can tell The Hudsucker Proxy was an East Coast production because three of the bit players (Robert Weil and Joe Grifasi, both part of the restaurant staff, and John Mahoney, who played the professor who sleeps with his students) are in both movies, not to mention, if Gallagher had been in the movie, that'd be a fourth. It's true that Danny Aiello is older than Cher (13 years), but Cher is also 18 years older than Cage. Olympia Dukakis was only 15 years older than Cher. It's also true that this is not really much of a Christmas movie. Really, that scene outside Lincoln Center (the same fountain, by the way, that Bill Murray and Sigourney Weaver speak at in the middle of Ghostbusters, and Keanu Reeves and Common faced off around in John Wick Chapter 2) is the only real indication that the movie takes place during the holidays. Still, whatever makes for a good excuse to watch it!

Love this movie. Definitely one of my mom's favorites. Was nice seeing Cher again on SNL last week.

I saw this in the Theatre when it first came put and it was a big hit. Cher won the Oscar at the Academy Awards, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=raybaccaAaU ; She was a great music star but also a very good and under appreciated movie star with some good roles like in Mask, Silkwood, The Witches of Eastwick, etc. She was just a very talented Artist. One of he earliest songs with he then husband Sonny Bono, The Beat Goes On https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzkYYE6hmjg&list=RDOzkYYE6hmjg&start_radio=1 and around the time the movie came out If I can turn back time , https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9n3A_-HRFfc&list=RD9n3A_-HRFfc&start_radio=1
