It is difficult to navigate this conversation but I will try my best to talk about that last scene with Claire and Luke. Sometimes being a black man is very difficult. Even though it feels wrong, empathy and kindness is rarely rewarding for a black men at least not in the culture I grew up in. It is seen as weakness by other black men and is less attractive to women generally speaking. There is an invisible balancing act so you aren't seen as scary or dangerous but also not weak among your peers. It is why so much violence happens in black culture. If you look at the common traits of people in leadership being aggressive, and less empathetic gets you farther. Black culture is filled with rappers and gang leaders who are not kind men but they are successful because of it. Women in general would rather pick a man who is too aggressive rather then a man who is too timid. (I am not saying it's their fault ) So some black men choose to be the first one. You get these men who beat up their women and kids because they think that is the only way to be a man because it is what the culture and environment shows gets results. You try and be a good man but this world makes it very difficult. You protect first. Even if that means not being kind but that kind of always ends up causing problems and more violence.
