The thing is, "Freeing the animals" seems like the right thing to do, but it's only good in a superficial way. They really don't care about them. A lot of those animals are going to die, because they released them just outside of zoos, and the animals need their natural habitats in order to survive on their own. And even then, those animals are used to being fed and cared in the zoo. So by freeing them, they're just condemning them to die.

How do we know they didn't transport them back to their natural habitats? If they took the care to clean up the dead, then surely they didn't just open the doors to the zoo and said, bye animals! Sure, lots of animals would die. But not all of them. I saw it as an act to ensure that animals are never caged and hurt again by humans.

Alright here we go! Pluribus kicking off with the difficult concepts and conversations. Because while, on paper, I love the concept of the hivemind and I am all for the "world peace" that seems to come with it, this episode creeped me out a lot. A) not a single person consented to this. They created this "glue" based on a formula from space without knowing what it does. The rat bite was not consentual. The first kiss to spread it was not consentual. And from that on forward noone that "joined" the hivemind was asked permission if they wanted this, especially not with a proper explanation what it would mean. The hivemind tells everyone "This is the most beautiful thing ever and you will see once you are part of it." but at what cost does that come? B) Do you still have an opinion? Taste? Your own moral code? Mr. Diabaté's harem for example. The women he drags around and sleeps with, they want to please him, sure. But would they do it if they wouldn't be part of the hivemind? What if this suddenly goes away and they are themselves again? Would they think they got raped? Zhosa said "We can't choose.". Saying no to being someones "sextoy" is hurting them, which means they can't say no. Does your opinion go away or does it not matter anymore in the bigger picture of the group? If all criminals are not criminals anymore, that means the "good" of the rest of the world "manipulated" them into being better now. Does that also happen with, let's say your music taste? If we assume for a second that there still is something like entertainment (because technically there is no point for that anymore), does everyone like everything now? If ones personal hopes and dreams, likes and dislikes, pros and cons are gone, I would want to stop this aswell. Sure its nice that horrible things like racism, homophobia, murder and all that is gone, but so would be all the good stuff that makes us who we are. We would walk around like drones (One big question I had when this episode was over was "What are they doing if they are not interacting with a non hivemind person?"). It would be surviving. Not living. C) Privacy is gone. Everything you do with someone, the entire world knows, because you do it with them aswell. You are not only kissing your husband, you are also kissing the bus driver, the crazy catlady down the street and your high school bully. D) I like what you said about the animals, because the concept of emptying the zoos is awesome. I just would have liked it more if they didn't just release them. Because the woman from Bejing said she has Giraffes in front of her house now so we know that they didn't return them to the wild and the animals just roam the cities now and will probably just die (unless they care for them but then they might aswell bring them "home" and care for them there? On paper that's a good one, but a lot of domesticated or caged animals wouldn't survive in the outside world. Let alone a concrete one. If they truly wanted to make the point of "we are doing good" they could have released them to nature and mentioned it. I want to believe that dogs for example would decide to stay because your smell and looks wouldn't change based on being part of a hivemind. Your behavior wouldn't really matter because every single human can now replicate yours, but the "chemistry" of you and your dog would still keep the bond strong. Don't get me wrong. Me being sus about the concept of the hivemind doesn't mean I dislike the show. It's the opposite actually. Because so far I had never seen a hivemind being this thoroughly explored. This show is sooooo interesting and I love all the concepts and questions that are coming up. I felt really bad for Carol for being the only one that is completely alone (although my guess would have been that the nature of her personality would still make her very sus, even if Helen would be around as a hive person). Rhea is doing a brilliant job of portraying this desperate woman in grief and anger, trying to save the world. I was dying to see the next episode every single week. Glad to see you are enjoying it. Can't wait to watch the next one with you!

It took me a second to realize the woman in the opening sequence who flew the plane got naked and showered was Zosia. The Joined brought her from halfway across the world because she looks like the female inspiration of her book dude Roban. Manipulative fuckers.

That workman dangling off the side of the building "It's okay Carol, we're alright" made me snort laugh.
