The moment that marked a before and after in Kyoshi's life

I love how the book described how Kyoshi felt in that moment, even when it was just a brief moment, I think is when she realized that all the feelings she had for her friend weren't just admiration and appreciation, there was something else blooming in her 🌸, thank you Marceline for drawing this scene, it was one of my favorite parts of the book 🫶🏻

I think Kyoshi has always been in love with Rangi but she just didn't know it yet byt now seeing her girl in the air took her breath away

Oh… My immediate reaction to seeing this was akin to the look on Kyoshi’s face on P2. I need a moment… I knew you were working on this, but man, nothing could’ve prepared me for the final drop. Everything about this piece is well thought-out. The scenery is breathtaking, from the blur in panel 1 from their movement to the striking, heart-stopping, frozen-in-time frames. It’s just so…polished to perfection. I don’t throw around this word lightly. I am very much in love with this. If I could bottle up what this makes me feel it would be stowed away on a top shelf somewhere in a glass case. “So beautiful…” “…that it hurt.” Uh. Anyways. To me, this was THE MOMENT that changed everything for Kyoshi. I 100000% see this as the moment she fell in love. No doubt left in her mind and heart about how she felt for Rangi. Fully aware that if she gave herself any more time to process this—she’d be in trouble. I think you’d convey the message of “falling in love” well to even those who did not read this book. Something about moons and lakes and feelings is very poetic. And gay. 😆

Thank you Zhenlin! Yay I'm happy to be able to draw most of the flying opera company members. They are all very special to me. Kyoshi also really loved the time she spent during this moment😭❤️❤️

Zhenlin

I love seeing them all together, I hope some day we get to hear more about them! But I’m so happy to see you bringing them to life with our best girls! 💚❤️💚❤️💚❤️

Marceline2174

Yes, her name is Kirima, and she isn't Kyoshi's blood relative, but she becomes her sworn sister! She is described as a very beautiful waterbender💙💙

I've read this part several times too. Kyoshi being so sweetly clueless, realizing she's truly fallen for someone only from the 'maybe it's my heart pounding because I ran?' line, is so endearing. And I really loved seeing Rangi as a truly amazing soldier alongside her role as a lovesick fool for Kyoshi🥹❤️💚❤️💚

Marceline2174

That is one of my favorite scenes as well. The depiction of Kyoshi realizing and accepting her love was so moving🥹 The part about Rangi being so beautiful which made Kyoshi painful was written so exquisitely that I reread it multiple times.

Marceline2174

That's right. Before that moment, there were scenes where she seemed unsure or hesitant, but at this point, she was truly awared, completely accepts, and acknowledges it. That transformation was what I loved so much😭😭😭

Marceline2174

I believe they always had love for each other in different forms, but this specific moment was great because it was when Kyoshi got fully awared. It was the moment she understood she wasn't just in love with Rangi as a friend, but was completely enamored. She had always admired Rangi, but I especially liked the part where she mentioned feeling pain at that moment.

That's absolutely right!! You always manage to pinpoint the exact part I want to emphasize the most. While the two of them always loved each other, the description before this scene often showed a subtle mix of friendship and romance, with Kyoshi seemingly unaware. For instance, those sweet and goofy moments where she felt affection and her heart pounded around Rangi, but she would wonder if it was just because she'd been running or something. However, in this particular scene, she described feeling pain because Rangi was so beautiful. I loved that moment of truly feeling love itself so much that I reread it over and over. I tried to include that sense of pain in her expression when drawing the final part, so I'm thrilled that you recognized that! 😭😭The moon and the lake are always romantic and gay🔥🔥
