I loved how, although Rangi is smiling, you can see that there’s something uncanny... This scene made me feel SO TENSE and I couldn't even breathe properly hahahaha

Oh Kyoshi…🥺. I love it every time you draw more characters. I’m always amazed at the design and artistic direction you take with them. In my mind I’m stamping “canon” to each one. Saowon Snakes are so infuriating lol🤬. Poor Kyoshi trying so hard to learn Fire Nation etiquette and being so confused because of all this passive aggressive skirting of rules and mind games happening. The snide remark Huazo made towards Kyoshi had me seeing red. Trying to make her feel smaller by diminishing her relationship with Rangi and rubbing in her lack of educational background. You drawing Huazo with her fan lifted next to her mouth reminds me of that. Saowon’s tactics just makes them a bunch of elitist cowards in my eyes. The ache from witnessing Rangi with Koulin, poor baby must feel so overwhelmed.😭 She’s lost so much how could she bear the thought of losing Rangi, the best thing in her life, to someone else too? Rangi - she’s trained herself to wear the perfect mask since she was young, to keep everything bottled up and neatly contained as any slight slip could be used against her. That takes incredible patience and discipline. I cheered when Rangi served up some well-deserved justice via ass-kicking.👏

Ohhhh I loved this part! it made me laugh so much seeing Kyoshi jealous, I have to admit I was like her, like who is this Koulin! go away! Kyoshi was adorable worried like that and you captured her expression perfectly, she's the one pouting now! Also.. Rangi's fake smile, a classic now hahaha. I love the design you did for Khoulin and her mother 💖you are so good at character design! Incredible work like always! ​At the time, political tensions between the Saowans and the Sei'nakas were at an all-time high. Kyoshi meanwhile, who didn't fully understand Fire Nation noble culture, acted aggressively toward Huazo for disrespecting Hei-Ran. Before all this political turmoil could explode, Rangi stepped in with that action to keep things from escalating any further. Knowing that background makes Kyoshi’s jealousy in that moment so much cuter like girl, she did all that for you😭😭😭

I think we have to give a lot of credit to Hei-Ran, who was an absolute beauty even among the Sei'naka... Rangi is basically the spitting image of Hei-Ran, which means her looks are literally stunning enough to win over two generations of Avatars in one shot😩😩😩🔥🔥🔥

Aww thank you❤️❤️❤️ Traditional Chinese noble attire is so ornate and full of rich red tones, making it absolute perfection for the Fire Nation royal family and nobles. Every time I search for reference materials to draw Fire Nation nobles, it's such a treat for the eyes😔🔥 Totally agreed on your taking about this scene🔥🔥🔥 ​Fire Nation noble culture and its subtle mind games must have been far too complex for Kyoshi to grasp. That’s why she felt so much cuter yet so heartbreaking in this scene. She was furious at Huazo's disrespect toward Hei-Ran and bewildered by Hei-Ran and Rangi’s inaction😭, which ultimately led her to lash out at Huazo.... ​Even though the Sei'naka clan had managed to gain some footing in central politics through pure merit, they were still a provincial clan that couldn't match the overwhelming prestige of the Saowans, meaning they had to tread extremely carefully to avoid an unexpected political clash in this moment. That’s why I believe Rangi made that move. Obviously Hei-Ran & Rangi wanted to wrap up any further political clash by staying silent but it was reignited by Kyoshi’s reaction😭 Before the political tension could escalate any further, Rangi did something she absolutely didn't want to do, all to protect the honor of her mother, her clan, and her Avatar...and I think Hei-Ran noticed this and gave Kyoshi a subtle sign to take care of her daughter. I honestly can't even imagine how much subtle bullying and harassment Rangi had to endure at school from the Saowans. Despite all of that, the fact she grew into such a fine person only proves just how strong-willed and amazing of a woman she truly is😩🤌🔥 This scene in particular is written so incredibly well that I get amazed every single time I read it. Seriously who are you F.C. Yee...😩😭

The fact that scenes feel fresh every time I reread the book just proves how masterfully written it is. Both books are so perfect that F.C. Yee’s talent honestly terrifies me sometimes🔥🔥🔥🔥 While Rangi can lose her cool at times, she’s fundamentally someone who instinctively assesses the situation and plans her moves first, so I think she already noticed Koulin’s presence way earlier. I think she only acted that way because Kyoshi’s actions raised the political tension between Saowans and Sei'nakas. I just love how multi-dimensional and amazing these characters are written😩🤌🤌🤌🤌

Oh man I had originally included comments about how well F.C. Yee set up these scenes with all this tension and read between the lines political dynamic of the FN clans. His ability to draw various emotions from the reader. Along with my HC about why Rangi had a soft spot for Kyoshi around the time when they met because of the past bullying she had to endure. Ended up deleting it all because I realized the length of the comment got waaaay long.😅😅😅 Rangi is a total bad ass and I love her protective nature for those she loves. Totally agree with you about what she did. It must take a lot to know how to swallow her pride in order to play along and navigate this political minefield. Fucking pro.🔥
