Oh god😭Kyoshi’s low self-esteem 100% stems from what her parents did to her. It was so heartbreaking to see in the books just how deeply scarred she was and how she constantly minimized her own worth.... I’m so glad she found Rangi (precisely Rangi found her).. Over time, Rangi’s steady, unconditional and endless love healed those wounds at least to some degree🥹

Since Rangi was assigned as the Avatar's bodyguard right after graduating from the academy, and they were around 16–17 years old in early Book 1, it probably hasn't been more than a year or two at most.

Kyoshi actually has an official design for her childhood from Avatar Generations game, so I just used that exact design. It would've been so sweet if they had met when they were children🥹

Kyoshi was abandoned by her parents in a place called Yokoha and grew up on the streets without any care. The color of her clothes is the same as what the people of Yokoha wear.
