Hi everyone,

Time for a new MotM! This time we've gone for an interesting landscape feature with lots of adventure potential!

The Devil's Maw is a deep, smoking hole in a hilly region - clearly an entrance to the underworld, or a place that something bad may emerge!

The variants are Hellmouth Caldera, Caldera Lake and Skullfire Shrine

These maps are available to everyone on a $5 and upwards tier, and you'll find links in your inbox, and VTT vault versions in the VTT vault...

Alt-Version Ideas!

Please let us have your suggestions for the Alt-Version of this location. How would you change it? What could we add? What do you imagine happening or being here? Put your ideas in the comments, and our favourites will go into a poll!

What a great array of maps! Such an interesting locale. Coming up with an alternate is hard lol. Only thing I can think of is to have a 2001 A Space Oddity type thing where an obelisk is resting at the bottom of the hole - or perhaps some other ruined ancient structure from a lost civilization.

I love this set. Could you make a fire-plane version with patches of lava and flame all along the path and an inferno in the center?

Dan Peak

Some kind of ancient meteor strike, with a glowing object still down in the pit

I would suggest an alt version that takes this volcanic caldera underwater - make a seamount or submarine volcano. Underwater coloration and sea floor detritus could make a very interesting location - perhaps even an island in its formation!

Meteor or spaceship crash site. Or dragon crash site. It just looks like something walloped the ground

ワタナベリュウジ

A crater covered with fine crystals due to the high heat and power of someone who fell from the outside world. At the center of the crater, a monolith made of highly pure and powerful glowing crystals remains half buried.

Imo the pathway could be interpretated of going down instead of up. If so, to the spectator, the hole would be a small icy lake. Actually the ice layer is the ceiling for a hidden white dragon lair.

How about a bubbling cauldron of something toxic: bubbling up and then spilling down the paths as a stream (and almost certainly poisoning the local river/lake/irrigation system)?
