Hi there,

Time to preview the MotM, and the three variants.

For this set of maps we've gone with an arid landscape - with pillars of rock that are the home to harpy nests (or any other flying beasty..).   There's three variants too - sea, mist and lava, and each comes with a no-nest version too.

Alt-Version

If you look carefully, you'll see that each map has a gateway into the mountain.  For July's 'Alt-Version', instead of reskinning this exterior map, we'd like you to suggest what's inside the mountain. Where does the doorway lead?

You can pick a theme that works for one of the specific variants, or pick something more generic.

You've had quite a few polls already this month so we'll be picking our favourite from the suggestions in a couple of days' time.

Can't wait to hear what you come up with!

Entrance to the labyrinth of Alkhos, gateway to lost Malbakar city of splendour!

Sweet! These are excellent, and you chose very good options for the alternate versions. Inside the mountain gateway... A yuan-ti style lair, with sloping ramps, statuary, sacrifice/summoning pit, altar, etc.

Adam Klym

Inactive volcano with an opening allowing a dragon (or other winged creature) access. Large cavern with a throne fit for a giant, one has taken residence to hear the Harpy's songs.

Matthew J. Hunter

Mausoleum of the Gods? Reliquary of Titans? A gate to the realms of the Underworld? A Planes Gate? A gate to the Multiverse? A little-known entrance to the Duergar mines of Arktos the Mad? The library of the Great Council of Wizardry? SO many options!!

Dan Peak

A residence/pit for a Queen Harpy, a larger boss-type monster that watches over her children.

Terence Harris

Very cool maps, but I cannot imagine ever actually using any of them in their entirety, they're just way too big!

David Kline

For the Sea One, the Temple of the Drowned God. Home to a large complex dedicated to the God of the Seas. A puzzle in the middle where you have to move an aqueduct from one side of the center to the other by moving the direction of where the water flows. A huge coral/wrecked ships throne in the end with waterfalls keeping players from entering until they solve the water puzzles throughout the Temple. Also a Giant Bridge from the Waterfalls to the Boss Room for a potentially cool additional encounter. (A Kraken swimming through the Temple.) Cthulhu vibes would work really well! Maybe a Void Fountain. Inspiration comes from the Water Temple in Ocarina of Time (Zelda).

Robert Cater

A tomb, possibly with a magic harp playing that draws the harpies to nest nearby as sort of a protection.

Nathan Mitchell

I think, given the alternate map with the sea, it would be amazing to have some kind of mythologically inspired internal map. Harpies were traditionally paired with Erinyes, creatures (goddesses?) of vengeance born of sea foam and blood (thus the pairing of the sea version). So for the inside of the mountain, I'm thinking some kind of large sea cave full of surf and crashing rocks, but at the center is a raised, flat area used for sacrifices. Deep gouges from claws, dark blood stains, etc... It could be the lair of any kind of coastal monster, or in the case of a mythologically inspired campaign with harpies, the lair of Erinyes to which the harpies outside fly and drop their victims for their vengeance to be done. And of course, if you wanted to be extra mean, there might be no walkable path (or one blocked by debris) between where the harpies fly in and the sacrificial pit below. Only way out is through the waters of the rising tide and rocks...

Mark Manders

A huge hall with a throne that has a skeleton of titan on it. The hall has enormous pillars, broken furniture and some kind of large creatures living in it. Perhaps some kind of huge dogs.

Andrew Croft

Well keeping to the lady theme of harpies. It should be a classic female medusa or lamia lair. Once of Dwarven make this former place of worship, now beset with fallen pillars, crumbling statues, natural waterfall and pool plunging into a crevasse, and living gargoyles.

Stirling Westrup

Traditionally Harpies were a personification of destructive storm winds, so maybe their nests are outside the lair of a group of Storm Giants?

Elwoode Mauret

An ancient, ruined temple of worship to a Genie-based cult. A large brazier filled with one of the elements matching the entrance's terrain (lava for Ifreet, sand w/ a withered plant for Dao, water for the Marid, and mist/smoke for the Djinni) placed on a central pedestal, constantly but slowly flowing over the brim & into grates at the base of the dais. Splintered crates, broken vases and jugs, maybe a few burned or torn rugs litter the far wall, which holds an ornate mirror too large to transport by hand - possibly how the cult communicated with the being they worshipped? Maybe... the object the Genie is trapped in, even to this day. If the temple got the same alternates as the outside, would make for a good pair of maps for a "retrieve necessary artifacts from 4 forgotten temples" or similar campaigns & quests!

René Bargisen

We need a vast Throne Room for a Giant King/fire/storm/reef etc. The area outside could easily be used as many others things than harpies.

René Bargisen

Placing ruined bridges from pillar to pillar would make an awesome strategic battle oppurtunity - fighting opponents while trying to reach the other side in various ways
