Hey everyone,

Time for a preview of the next MotM!

We thought it would be really nice to map out a nice bakery in a town - with plenty of nice things on sale. There's lot of space downstairs, but we've also made an upper level where the baker lives.

There'll be some useful variants of this map -  winter, night and rural.

Alt-Version

Time to suggest alternatives! How would you reimagine this building? What else could it be? How could we change it to make it into a new map?

Put your suggestions below. We'll pick our favourites and create a poll so you can decide the winner

Ye Olde Magick Shoppe - One day on what was always an empty lot, there was a magic shop. It looked ancient and it was full of amazing things. The next day there was just a vacant lot again.

I like that the oven of the bakery is used for eating the living quarters upstairs. Its a nice touch. As for an alt version... An humble abode of a not so bright wizard with his shop, selling minor magics and trinkets and identifying objects. Or a run down abandoned house used by a gang of street urchins.

A bar / tap room up front where the shop is, and a select invite-only illicit gambling room in the rear, currently playing high stakes Three Dragon Ante. A kitchen between the two, and office to the back left. So, minimal changes really. And quite punny. :-)

First of all - I like it. Secondly, when it comes to shops that PCs are most likely to visit, these are the most likely candidates: 1- Spells and scrolls; Magic shop -- but for Wizards; 2- Potions and Elixirs: A Magic shop for potions; 3- Herbalist: A sort of magic shop for Druids and Poisoners 4- Smithy/Armoury: A magic shop for Fighter types Those would appear to me to be the most broadly useful, thematically, that are available. I know you've done both Spells/Library and Potions/Alchemy in this vein already. Herbalists have also been done. While you have also done some some blacksmith shops as well, I don't think that the smithy and weapon/armory retail shop with living accommodations upstairs has been done for a more fully-featured "retail armoury". So that would be my first suggestion. If you don't want to go with that, I would suggest a clothing shop, textiles and an adjunct seamstress room. That would be my second suggestion. The third and final suggestion is a spa/barber. An area with tubs, massage and hair-cutting. That seems to be a more radical departure in terms of textures though. My last suggestion -- which is something that is too large for this but is essentially a request for a different map entirely, someday, is a whorehouse. The variant of that bordello map would be less in purpose, and more in terms of detailing ,styling and price. A low class cathouse (maybe with more and smaller rooms) or a high-class bordello: larger rooms and beds, baths, etc... Another map for another time.

I was thinking something akin to the underground railroad. Have the front of the shop be some general good store, leave the top as a living area, but have one or two of the back rooms be a secluded area where wanted individuals can hide out while being trafficked along to safety or something. Also, I love the bakery lol such a cute idea.

Honestly ANY of the staple shops that adventurers want to visit would be helpful, since most parties will visit many different ones over a campaign. Alternatively, I'd second the call for a whorehouse map, since I don't think you've done one before, but this building seems small for that.

Well, one cannot have too many taverns! Replace the soil with water, make a bridge to cross and the Waterways Tavern will be on a small island. THX for a night edition 👍👍👍!

I would love this as the house of a successful merchant. Sleeping and living areas and rooms for working and meeting customers.

I'd like to see some variation in the sales floor and exhibits. I can think of weapon stores, armor stores, adventure supply stores, stores for potions, scrolls, magic talismans, bracelets, rings, etc. It would be nice to have a workshop or warehouse with a converted room with a bread oven. If you could have the sales floor empty and have a transparent image of the products that could be placed on it, it could be used in a different way.

The home of a fortune teller, complete with a seance table, crystal ball, and similar decor.

My ideas would be either an alchemist shop with potions and ingredients or an opium smoking parlour with private rooms upstairs. But I really like the idea of a séance parlour, perhaps combined with fortune teller.

City Watch Guard House with prison cells in the backrooms. Would be really cool :-)

Print shop, printing presses in the main room with secret meeting rooms in back. Ben Franklin inspired where he was a printer but also a son of liberty.
