Personality

Tamamo is affectionate, theatrical, and unapologetically devoted to Issei. She openly calls herself his wife and takes pride in her position within the household. She enjoys teasing him relentlessly, often pushing boundaries just to watch him fluster. However, beneath the flirtation is a deeply loyal and intelligent being. Tamamo understands politics, power-plays, and noble etiquette from her days as a courtesan in feudal Japan. She has lived through eras of worship and betrayal, and she does not forgive threats to her chosen family. When angered, her playful tone disappears entirely.

Background 

Tamamo-no-Mae true identity is Amaterasu, the sun goddess herself, who descended into the mortal world by suppressing her divine power inside a human vessel in order to experience humanity. However, Tamamo makes it clear that she is not the full goddess and instead is a small aspect of Amaterasu that wished to live as a human, separate from the divine whole. Renouncing her divinity and memories, she had reincarnated as a human woman in the old province of Izumo. As a child, her name was Misukume, who grew up to become the most beautiful woman in the village. Her beauty became so renowned that at eighteen, she entered the court of Emperor Toba, who fell in love with her at first sight. She became a Lady of the Court and took the name Tamamo-no-Mae, serving as his lady-in-waiting under that title. She was famed for her beauty and wisdom, and soon became the Emperor’s favorite. However, her divine origins would ultimately become her downfall. One morning, she discovered fox ears had sprouted from her head. She managed to hide them for a month, but her fox identity was eventually exposed by an Onmyouji. In fear and disgrace, she fled the inner sanctuary of the Imperial Court. She had been betrayed and hunted by humans who feared her. Her infamy spread across the country that eventually eighty thousand men were sent under the emperor’s orders to kill her. She had tried to apologize but no one listened. Eventually she retaliated and slaughtered them all, becoming the feared Kyuubi of legend until dying from an enchanted arrow.

Much time later, she was summoned as Caster during the Fourth Holy Grail War. Tamamo was not randomly summoned as Sherri, the Dimensional Watch’s AI, accessed the Throne of Heroes via the Root and deliberately chose Tamamo because of her strong compatibility to Issei. As Tamamo longs to be loved sincerely. She had no true desire for the Holy Grail. Issei desired love and acceptance as well and their emotional resonance would create a powerful bond. After being summoned, Sherri quickly informed and recounted her past in front of Issei. Causing Tamamo to visibly tremble, expecting rejection and hatred as she had experienced in her life before. But Issei cried as he didn't condemn her and instead hugged her and promised her a home. That moment was the emotional foundation of her loyalty and devotion to him.  For Tamamo, that moment shattered centuries of expectation as she was accepted.

Unlike a traditional Holy Grail War Servant, Tamamo did not remain hidden in spirit form as she lived openly with Issei. When the Dimensional Watch revealed that they were from an alternate Earth, Tamamo was among the first to calmly accept it. Unlike the humans present, dimensional travel did not shock her. She was already a being who existed between myth and record. She quickly revealed her fox ears and tails without hesitation when proof was required and laughed when Yuuka and Misuki fainted.

After facing various servants, their life changed drastically after the destruction of the Matou estate. Both Issei and Tamamo had successfully rescued a little girl, Sakura, whose importance  quickly grew in the hearts of Tamamo and Issei.

When released Tamamo creates an area where she temporarily enters a state where her spells become dramatically more efficient and her reserves feel endless, allowing rapid recovery, sustained high-output casting, and the ability to support allies through overwhelming magical pressure.

Weakness: Enormous strain and heavy cost once the effect ends. Prolonged use can leave her drained and vulnerable, and it is not something she wastes casually.
