In a manner of speaking, it was a death for Connor, just not a literal one.

I suppose one interpretation of the title Home could be that Connor was given a home.

The Father will kill the Son 😭

Remember in the second episode of this season Angel had to go to Dinza, the goddess of the lost, for information about Cordelia. She said she would love to keep him in her lair, but he has much more to lose. This is what she was talking about: Cordelia’s in a coma and there’s no telling if she’ll wake up or not, Connor is no longer apart of his life, and the integrity he felt he had by resisting Wolfram & Hart is now gone in exchange for a clean slate for his son. Now that Angel has lost so much, where will he go from here?

Angel: “She was eating people.” Lilah: “They knew what they were getting into.” Lorne: “HER STOMACH?!” Always makes me laugh 😂

Ron Fehr

You were able to manifest Lilah last episode. Too bad that it didn't work for Kate this time.

Fun fact: There's another reason that you should recognize Knox, the guy showing Fred around. That was Jonathan M. Woodward, who played Holden Webster (vampire sired by Spike) in Buffy season 7 episode 7, Conversations with Dead People.

Also it relates to the conversation between Connor and that cop. Connor asks him if he has a home and the cop responds with a photo of his family, his home. And that really hit a nerve with Connor cause of the lack of a family unit in his life, which makes him feel like he doesn’t have a home

As problematic as this season can be (and that’s all been discussed plenty) I actually really enjoy this season and a major part of it is that last scene with them. The acting between David Boreanaz (heartbreaking) and Vincent Kartheiser (also heartbreaking) is some of the best of this show I think. But more beautifully tragic is how the last scene of this season perfectly bookends with the very first scene of the season: a family sitting together at the dinner table. Even the parallel of the toast (“To family.”) where in ep1 it’s Wesley who says it and now in the finale it’s Connor. It’s what Angel and Connor both needed and wanted with all their hearts. And this has been sprinkled throughout this season through Connor, like when he got so affected by the Svear family massacre, and in this episode where he gets so mad at that cop who was gonna kill himself and leave his family behind. In the end they were both fighting for family but unfortunately Angel came to realize that in order to give that to Connor he couldn’t be the father he needed. Ultimately, the same theme we’ve seen before in Buffy and even earlier in this season of Angel is that love is sacrifice. And he literally had to kill his son in order to have him essentially be reborn to a new family and happy life. Also the ending music in this episode......so beautiful too, on par with the Buffy season 5 finale (interestingly titled ‘Sacrifice’).
