So, given that you love Amy Acker but you don't watch horror, I'm wondering if you watched "The Cabin in the Woods"? Sorry if this has been answered before, but, if you haven't, I think it'd make an interesting watch for Halloween or something

Wait, why did you think the guy in the beginning of the episode that was coming out of the lab when Fred came in was rude? Fred was taking a shower at W&H because she was spending all her time there trying to help Spike. As for why she was so focused on it this episode, I think it was a combination of Spike guilting her in the last episode, her wanting to do something that has never been done before, and her believing it was the right thing to do.

The thing about ghosts being able to touch things through force of will is a pretty common staple in these types of shows (also the case in stuff like SPN or both versions of Being Human etc.) - generally the thing is that it's not just about "wanting" to do it but also about being able to focus your mind enough to do it and understanding that it is different from having an actual body (it's basically like learning telekinesis), which is how those types of shows explain fresh ghosts not being able to do it despite "wanting" to do it - the explanation in this episode might not have been the best, but I'd wager that that was the basic idea of how it functions in this show as well

In regards to the Discussion Fred and Angel had about her department's spending - I believe the reason why she was so easily able to convince Angel was precisely because she *didn't* argue about the money aspect of it but instead talked about how doing the right thing should be more important than profit, which is one of the things that they were all worried about changing by coming to Wolfram and Hart

I do agree that the stark difference in Fred's investment in Spikes case could have been smoothed out a little, but one should not forget that last weeks case was very time sensitive since like in the Buffy episode where Oz becomes a werewolf the entire plot is wrapped up in the three consecutive nights on which werewolves transform, so it was an even more immediate problem than Spike being incorporeal

If I remember correctly, when this episode originally aired on TV, they had a "viewer discretion advised" warning before the episode. Its the first and only time a Buffyverse episode had this kind of warning. So if this episode seemed a bit too gorey or horror-like, then that was their intention.

Fred's reveal about Spike slipping into He'll, and Gunn and Wes's reactions, reminds me of Warren telling Buffy that April was a robot. Same type of reaction from Buffy.

The only reason that I can think of for Fred showering at Wolfram and Hart instead of at home is that she wanted to be near the lab in case of emergency.

Perhaps what you perceived as inconsistency in regards to Fred's attention to Spike's dilemma may just have been, in the previous episode, not yet realizing how serious things were getting for him.
