I never comprehend the Scott Hope hatred. The guy did nothing wrong. I never cheered for Buffy in the first half, nor Cordelia. They were both equally at fault. It was all about competition, which, from Mr. Trick’s speech in its praise, was obviously what was wrong. When Buffy and Cordy start arguing in the hall, you get a hint of the outcome, from the quick dispersal of the students. The way they were acting, neither one of them deserved it. This is one of those brilliant episodes in BtVS where it’s hard to say whether it’s more comedy or drama because they work together perfectly. I never worry about whether one character or another gets enough screentime in an episode. The writers know what is needed to move the episode in the right direction. In the overall story, each character will have their time to shine. At the end of last season, Xander told Willow, “I love you” when she was in the hospital bed. He was on the verge of recognizing more profoundly what that meant to him, when Oz showed up. There’s nothing random about this, as disturbing as it is – but it was subtle (in other words, great writing). Good reaction, as always.

🤣🤣🤣and so say all of us to be fair

You just want to hit them both on the nose and scream NOOO!!! BAD!!!

Gotta agree with you about how Cordy behaved early in the episode. And poor Buffy, no yearbook picture. (Actually I didn't have one either in grade 12) And the mayor seemed pretty calm when talikng to a vampire, not scared at all.

UTU49

I suppose Buffy and Cordy didn't behave very well in this episode, but I think that might be a little overly harsh... o_o ... it's possible you were talking about Xander and Willow.

UTU49

I love how quirky the mayor is. He's just so weird.

Ron Fehr

There was a time when we all wished for a Willow/Xander pairing. Of course that was before they found Oz and Cordy.

Ron Fehr

Apparently in France, Xander was referred to as Alex, short for Alexander. So his name on the english version makes sense.

Domi E

He really is! I’m curious to hopefully get to know more about him!

UTU49

Hey D. I actually posted that comment before finishing your video, so I actually said that before I heard you describe him as weird.

Domi E

I’m glad I’m not the only opposed to them being together haha

UTU49

Logically, I think this episode is a little lackluster... but I love it anyway.

Domi E

Oh!! Yes that makes perfect sense!

Domi E

Well today I learned a new word so thank you😋

Ron Fehr

My favorite funny bit was Cordelia using the fly swatter.

Domi E

She’s the best!! (Most times...)

I don't like how Scott broke up with Buffy. And I don't mean I blame the character - I think this is all on the writers. It feels like they panicked "oh no boring Angel is back but Buffy is with this nice non-stalker guy, what now?" The bit with Faith telling Scott off at the dance is fun though :-)

First off, I wanna be Guacamole Queen...so long as it comes with a year's supply of guacamole! Also, the less said about the Xander and Willow abomination the better. Now, I know Cordelia was worse but I don't like seeing Buffy being mean either so I'm not a big fan of the first half of this. The second half is great and it's really sad what Buffy says about wanting to look back and remember being in school and having a normal life. Cordelia is great in the second half as well. :D I tear my hair out a bit that Buffy isn't telling anybody about Angel. Grrrrr, seriously, you're right that it's better for her but they kinda have the right to know too. And Giles' love of finger food, I relate :) I must admit it's not my favourite episode but it's still fun and makes me laugh quite a bit.

Every time Xander kisses a girl for the first time you have the same look on your face. So far he's 2 for 2 lol.

Nate

I love this episode. I like to pretend the Willow and Xander kiss didn't happen and focus instead on how cute Giles was at the homecoming.

Domi E

Yeah that’s very true!!

Steve Quast

No one's a fan of Willow and Xander getting together. Maybe would have been into it if it had happened in season 1 or at the beginning of season 2, but now they're in relationships. It's bad timing and clearly just written to create drama. In other news, we finally meet the mayor. And Trick meets the mayor. This should be interesting...

Domi E

There were def some great moments

Domi E

LOLOLOL! Hey there’s also Inca Mummy Girl!!! I think I looked more freaked out than pissed off in that one hahaha

Domi E

Which kiss? I’ve already forgotten it.... 😋

Domi E

Yeah that makes perfect sense! And I’m so curious about these two... Hmmm, we shall see!!

Carl

I remember when you first told me that you were up to this episode I thought it would be one of the tops of the season for you. I was over focused on all the Buffy/Cordelia interaction and I thought for sure that would be enough. It's been years since I last watched, and I completely forgot the Xander/Willow thing also happened in this episode(what's the matter miss Willow is perfect in every way? :P). I'm pleasantly surprised that you warmed to the Ange/Buffy thing so quickly!

Samiah

I think they alluded to the Xander and Willow romance when Willow was unconscious in the last episode of season 2 and he holds her hand and tells her he loves her, then Oz walks in and interrupts the moment. It does feel kind of out of the blue but I think that moment was the set up. I hate Xander and Willow together nonetheless lol. Great reaction Domi!

Domi E

Haha thank you Carl! And hey... Seems like we finally found a flaw for Willow 😋

Domi E

Thank you Samiah!! That’s so true I totally forgot that scene!!!

Bri

I always read that scene as being about Xander's platonic love for Willow. I think historically he's had difficulty expressing what she meant to him, as a friend, because of his awareness of her feelings for him, and not wanting to lead her on. When she's 'gone' in this coma, a) it's hitting home how important she is to him and b) it's safe for him to express it fully because she's not going to read it romantically (or any way at all, cos hey, she's unconscious)

CeNedra

Okay so if there is an episode I don't like much I generally moan about it so I came on here to say nothing at all 😁 nope.. I came here to see a Domi reaction 😍🤗🤩

Oooo, the rage this episode brings out in Buffy fans is fairly universal. Stupid, stupid, stupid Xander and Willow. Of course their first kiss in the whole show has to end up being the worst kiss in the whole show. For me, the greatest thing about this episode is Cordelia's growth as a character. I think her vileness in the beginning was because Buffy was encroaching on her area and felt threatened. For Cordelia, her popularity has been her whole life. Buffy has the slayer thing, Giles, and friends who would die for her. Now she wants to steal Cordy's one thing. So I don't really blame for regressing back to season 1 bitchiness. Later though, she stood toe to toe with a vampire and finally admitted she loves Xander. I think it's also the first time she's fallen in love. As for the Buffy not telling thing, I'm going to disagree with you. True, hiding it isn't really great, but I can understand why she isn't telling. The last time either Xander and Giles saw him, Giles was a mess from all the torture. Plus Jenny. Also, don't forget Xander's message from Willow, to kick Angel's ass. (I know she didn't actually say that, but does Buffy) So, in her mind, telling her friends about Angel is basically signing his death warrant.

Domi E

That’s true, it makes sense that she’s not telling I’m just dying for her to open up haha

Phoenix Dawn

Totally hear your pain when it comes to Xander and Willow...sigh.

Domi E

Glad you all are with me in this one!!

UTU49

You're most welcome! I do my best to be a pedantic reprobate.

So, I get that this episode was more focused on the Buffy/Cordelia dynamic, but I'm picking up some certain vibes from Faith. After Buffy gets dumped, Faith asks her fellow Slayer to the Homecoming dance, and Buffy says yes! When we first met Faith, she was living out of a travel bag, staying at a motel room that she had trouble affording the cost of eighteen US dollars per day. And yet, she shows up at the dance in a beautiful black dress - and this rugged badass has even done up her hair. Now, I'm no expert in romance, but if a young woman short on cash went to that much apparent effort to look nice, and if she had been expecting someone to join her at a dance that she had invited her to... I'm just saying that maybe Faith looks at Buffy and sees more than just another Slayer. And they were both 'starved' after killing Kakistos in Episode 3x03. But according to Faith, slaying makes you both hungry AND horny. So, after a nice meal, how did they celebrate their victory? Inquiring minds want to know! ~_^
